A vase I'm working on (This seems to be an appropriate place to put this)
When fired and glazed the color should be something similar to how this bowl turned out

What is it made out of? It looks like you're chiseling stone, or is it just dried clay?
A messy WWII sketch, got pretty lazy with it near the end
What is it made out of? It looks like you're chiseling stone, or is it just dried clay?
It's made of clay, thrown on the wheel, carved, dried, then carved some more. The black parts are stained with iron oxide. The technique is often called agateware or nerikomi/neriage (Japanese). Once I've got this piece glazed and done I'll be working on making something (probably a set of bowls) with cobalt oxide.
Any other potters?

fuckkkkkk my workspace is so cramped
Discovering an interesting combination of Photoshop blending modes, adjustments and filters is seldom something worthwhile posting as it's usually just "oh that's cool..." and then 5 minutes later "no, actually it's useless and sucks".
But I have to say, this result is quite intriguing and seems to hold a lot of potential if tweaked right. It gives off a very Van Gogh-like texture and I think if I could find some way to control the colour range a bit more it could be quite the effective tool as a designer.

A strong Reduce Noise filter and very clean Oil Paint filter at 75% opacity merged together.
Duplicated, applied Oil Paint filter with Bristle detail at 1 and shine at 1, cleanliness at 10 and stylization and scale to 0. Inverted colours, greyscaled, set to Hard Mix blending mode.
Adjusted colours with Channel Mixer and Hue/saturation.

I think it's the heavily tapered barrel and the dark band mid way down the barrel that make it look more German than American

Your lines are beautiful! Is there any specialized practice or... you know, just draw and draw and draw?
Your lines are beautiful! Is there any specialized practice or... you know, just draw and draw and draw?
Either keep drawing and figure out good methods on your own, or read tutorials on the internet and keep these methods in mind as you draw.
I worked on it for like an hour more, so it's at around an hour 45 minutes.
3 color study again, they are my favorites

I don't think anyone will want to replicate that outcome somehow

That's ok, I'll continue to take on the role of the rebellious and missunderstood artist that never could. It's a heavy burden, but I'll take it, for my country, for humanity, for me and you.
Jokes aside I think it has a lot of possibilities and if no one else sees it that way that's fine.
Added one more example to the post, fiddled around with adding hue and overlay layers to change the amount of colour information, I think it's neat. If you compose a photo with this technique in mind, wash out some details and do a lot of manual touches to it I think it can work quite well. Right now my examples are just babbys first facebook photos, photos.
I kind of liked the second one, even if it was the obligatory "eye shot."
Made this today, now i'm hungry.

Old etchings and woodprints are a great resource for studying linework and hatching techniques. I try to emulate the technique of old etching artists such as Jaques Callot, they used essentially the same hatching technique to cover areas with a value using only lines. It's especially useful if you work with pen and ink.
This is a good place to start

From a practical point of view the left soldier's armour seems very thick and needlessly heavy through the torso and underneath those camo leggings you've given him

your values blow my mind at all times
[editline]23rd March 2013[/editline]
when constructing a painting, how does one balance realistic colours, plausible scene layout, storytelling and values?
I can think of a bunch of times when I'm thinking "I really like the mood set by this lighting/backdrop/shadow (etc) but in terms of a composition with 'good values' it doesn't really work"
