What sort of purpose would you use that table for? Because if I was leaning forward with my wrists or arms on the glass those pointy bits would be digging into my flesh. Maybe you should chop them off.
The current design has no sharp angles (due to ease of manufacturing) and it's a side table, as in a coffee table, it's 18" tall.
It's not really about the sharpness, just that the frame is protruding into/over the edge of the table. It wouldn't be too big of an issue if you aren't going to have your arms on it, but it does decrease the versatility. I often find myself sitting on the floor to use a coffee table as a regular table. With this of course I'd neither be able to get my arms onto it comfortably from either long side nor sit my legs under it- but it's a very cool design and I'm excited to see the finished product.
It's an end table not coffee table like you would set in front of a sofa, trust me if you saw the scale of this you wouldn't see yourself sitting at it with your arms over the edge.
I'll take your word for it. I trust you've considered the intended use when designing it. Please do post more as you work on it, though!
Great comp Did you use a plate? (I think that every time I see a value painting after that FZ vid :v:)
Thanks mate I'm actually super stoked with how the composition turned out; it just seemed to happen. Nope, no photo plate. I'm ashamed to say I didn't actually use any refs for this one; I know I should have. I'd like to do some photo plate stuff but I'd only feel comfortable using my own photos. I really, really need to buy a good quality point-and-shoot for taking model/landscape/texture shots with
Noble sentiment but I think what really matters is that very little of the original content of the plate remains Well to put it in a more reasonable way I think it's perfectly fine as a timesaver for client work and whatever but if it's a crutch then you shouldn't do it. Actually that's not even what I was talking about is it. Yeah from a photographer's POV I doubt there would be any hard feelings from borrowing perspective or comp elements, certainly no copyright issues or anything [editline]28th March 2013[/editline]
I'm going to attempt to a do a bulk response since there's a lot going on here. Mako, let it go bro, ain't even a thang. And yes, I'm nowhere near proficient (nor confident) enough to make bold, 'efficient' (aka talented) brush strokes, and yes I do practice in almost exclusively grayscale but even with a reference I end up airbrushing because I haven't had the time or practice to understand how to represent value with large brushes. As well I'm not confident enough to add contrast without blotching it up, especially once color is brought it (I needed to do it in color for the assignment) as that makes it even more intimidating. Anyways here's an update on a grayscale study I've been working on with extensive use of reference. Note I am still horrible at painting.
Try rendering something less complex than a face if you want to get away from airbrushing (very good idea to do so) Try a piece of fruit maybe. And working in greyscale is perfectly fine while you get the hang of stuff like this. Colour is a whole other ball game, it's better to have a foothold in digital painting before you tackle it.

[IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/FaRQqzX.jpg[/IMG_thumb] Feeling classy today. Fixed it.
Just created a new wallpaper. [IMG_thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/19589844/Wall/gear-w.png[/IMG_thumb] I love this "hard color" style.

Is this the right place for stuff like this: Calling this done now, can't be arsed to do the rest of the background aztec pattern for it is tedious as shit. Markers with fineliner.

[img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8557473/img018.jpg[/img_thumb] Something i finished today in my free lessons, it started life as a from life sketch, just filled it in with shading and stuff today. Theres room to improve and as usual if anyone has any tips or comment please give them :) Im actually quite happy with this since my attempting to quickly sketch people from life wasn't going to well. [editline]29th March 2013[/editline]
Fine, I'll upload some of my doodles
Also i cant see these pictures - using safari atm, just thought I'd say
Lovely drawing, and I can't see them either.
Lovely drawing, and I can't see them either.
Thanks very much :) yeh, if you right click them you can go to the source page I think?
I updated it and should be able to view, and jesus, I just noticed how large they are, let me try and re size them.
Still can't see anything.
Not the best, but I stuck to mostly large brushes and refrained from low opacity as much as possible. Blotchy but better than airbrush. Once again heavily referenced.
Not sure what "heavily referenced" means here. You shouldn't be doing anything other than referenced studies at this point. Once you have a good grasp on shading efficiently and learning the facial forms and features you can move to your own concepts. You're definitely getting better though. I would recommend drawing males instead, as the facial features are more pronounced and will force you to use darker values. Also if you're using Photoshop CS5 or 6 use transfer instead of opacity, and if you're using CS4 turn on "other dynamics" so the opacity is basically pressure sensitive and you don't have to manually change it. Dunno if you already knew or did that.

And worry not, I'm still practicing anatomy and all of that with pen and pencil too. And use transfer. Gotcha. Thanks for the advice as always :) Edit: Oh yes, draw the mens. Can do. Edit: Oh shit I thought you mean set transfer as flow jitter instead of opacity jitter. No I'm using pressure sensitivity, I'm just bad at it :) My strokes are so light and insecure that they barely register, so the opacity seems to remain wholly consistent.

It's art but I need to know if the 9gag is ironic or not before I give you any positive feedback.
It's art but I need to know if the 9gag is ironic or not before I give you any positive feedback.
sorry, the 9gag version of it was smaller so..butt. anyway, there it is. op
Beautiful. [editline]29th March 2013[/editline] Okay, last womens post, promise. Was working on it at the same time as the last one so I wanted to throw it up quick. Haven't really started the face yet. "referenced as fuck dude" Now with face
Oh hey that's that girl that Ryu-Gi was obsessing over, wasn't it? Susan Coffey [img_thumb]http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4126/5092588706_964d4189fe_b.jpg[/img_thumb] It's usually the norm if you work by reference to say you're working by reference and show the reference you're using.
the hair is pretty nice
Solid stuff biscuit. Use bigger brushes though

Also fuck me sideways i'd better start incorporating more weird fetishes into my work then
Solid stuff biscuit. Use bigger brushes though
I'm working on that as I go. I managed to use a bit bigger brushes on the legs but I'm not good enough to represent anything properly with large strokes really. You can kinda tell I had to get smaller as they get closer to the face. Legs are big strokes, chest is medium, face is small or tiny on things like the eyes. Eventually I hope to be there though.
