that "creepy looking sonovabitch" is goddamn awesome all stylish and stuff well here's my thing
took like 6-7 hrs...on and off ish. Can someone tell me if that's too long of a time for my end result?
Yes but you'll gain speed as you continue to work so don't worry about it [editline]31st March 2013[/editline] Also I see you paying attention to line weight on the leaves up top but then it all flattens out for the bulk of it. Be careful of shading one form so you have a dark side coming into a light side and then being cut off by a hard black outline. That will give you a completely flat image regardless of how nice the form inside the line looks
songbiiird as soon as i dropped my pen and looked at it it just looked so empty and flat i really need to pay more attention to creating the scene to make it look more interesting and better to the eye i even forgot the fckn wings
Did this for a photoshop class Here's the sketch [T]http://imageshack.us/a/img268/2258/ots1pg011.jpg[/T] And here's the (almost) finished product. [T]http://imageshack.us/a/img203/4374/city1fin.png[/T]
Looks nice to me I've not played the new BS so I'm having trouble with the depth and forms though, like the shape of the head is a bit of a mystery to me from looking at that It's a bit frustratingly dim and yeah the composition is almost symmetrical in both axes so be careful of that, makes a very static image @ Xeph
So, I posted this in the DIY section but that part of the forum is a ghost town with only a few people posting every now and again so I figured I'd ask here too as you guys are pretty damned creative. If you wouldn't mind throwing me some ideas and forgiving me for the slightly wrong section post that'd be awesome. I'm making a gift for my girlfriend as her birthday is the 8th. She loves Fallout and collecting shiny things in it so I'm making her a few Nukacola Quantums. Now, for those who don't know, tonic water glows blue when exposed to a blacklight. My problem is that tonic water is completely clear so it doesn't really take the light very well. Can anyone think of something I can mix into the tonic water to make it a little opaque so that the light can still shine all the way through it but will pick up the light better? It doesn't really need to be edible as I doubt she'd want to drink it rather than keep it on display. My friend had no idea either but threw the idea of powdered chalk to me. It sounds like a somewhat good idea or a place to start at least but it'd sink to the bottom eventually, wouldn't it? To appease the content gods I will post a picture of them when I get them worked out.
rest your soul traveller; there are no content gods here

What about using a tinted oil and an emulsifier of some sort? edit: Or maybe a small amount of one of those water flavouring things, some of those change the colour. A pale yellowy one might work.
If it's soluble (like sugar, etc) it'll make the water non-transparent and only separate from the water molecules when it evaporates though, right?
Sugar and such can still tend to settle out of the solution I believe, still all she'll have to do is shake it a bit anyway to fix it
Saw Prometheus last night. Some obvious flaws but overall I liked it. My first foray into the Alien franchise. I've never really been that attracted to the films; I recognise their importance on culture and the film industry, but I've never been a horror/gore kind of dude. But I thought I'd give an Alien-esque creature a go
[img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8557473/img019.jpg[/img_thumb] Huge image, might take a second to load without looking fuzzy as shit. Drawn with (the best of the best (and only pencil I use)) a 0.3 mechanical pencil on A3 paper, took like 6-7 hrs...on and off ish. Can someone tell me if that's too long of a time for my end result?
I must say this is amazing. 6-7 hours well spent
I made a cinemagraph, really still just experimenting but I'm getting a feel for it. clicky (11MB .GIF)
The link gives a 403 error.

I love the palette, the simple strokes and something I don't see much in paintings in this thread: verticality. It gives a real sense of depth. I love it.
I just love that aspect when you can see the strokes just as clearly as the painting itself. It's even better in traditional painting and you can feel the surface of the paint.
I really wanna get a tablet
Making line-art by hand and then coloring it digitally is so much fun! [t]http://th03.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2013/090/6/7/oculantern_ghosts_by_lieutenantawesome-d5zwcei.png[/t] "Are you lost little boy? Come on out and we'll bring you to your parents..."

I think the perspective is really messed up. The horizon should be a lot lower if the stuff in the back is supposed to be so much bigger. Nice rendering on the front iceberg though
Yeah, but the colours itself look pretty well.
aye i'm so bad at perspective. need to sit down and learn it properly but right now i just gotta pump work out for the end of year deadlines. not ideal. looking forward to having some time to actually learn stuff instead of just working
By the way, when I asked "how do i artist" I was really asking how do I get started with drawing and stuff like that? Not that I don't appreciate that blog, it's a good read.

Not that I don't appreciate that blog, it's a good read.
i find it kinda varies and it depends what you want to do and how fast you want to learn. personally i'd say you should just pick up a pencil or a tablet and just start drawing stuff you like from reference and then take it from there, start reading up on light but also on techniques associated with your medium, but take it easy because you're doing this for personal enjoyment and you wanna have fun and not burn out on the other hand though you can really push yourself and do nothing but learn the basics from the ground up; start reading on perspective and anatomy and tone and doing as many studies as you can focusing very specifically on these things. i know some guys who started out drawing way after me and they did this and now they're so much better than me it's mad or of course try and find something inbetween. mainly i just recommend that you look at lots of other people's work and start doing some reading sites like this http://ctrlpaint.com/ and loomis' books will be of great help

What are some interesting things that can showcase light? Stuff like reflections, caustics, and volumetric effects? I have already done too many pieces on the topic of light using fog to make light visible, and I could use some place to discuss ideas. I have been thinking of something reflective, but with off of an oily surface. Like water that has an oil slick on it, so you get a reflection, but it is warped and with all sorts of different colors. Another thing would involve a sphere of glass or transparent stuff that is concentrating the light somewhere.
