So you're saying you don't like them blue bitches?
Only good for space airbags. Dem cleavage cushion is awwwwright.
Because nobody ever heard of subtitles. Regardless you are an idiot. It was pretty fun learning the D'ni numbering system in Riven, and learning the D'ni characters to read names for a puzzle in Myst IV.
Mass Effect is an easy Action RPG, while Myst and its spin-off Riven are difficult Adventure games. There's a huge difference between these you know.
And subtitles are supposed to be an addition to voice acting, not the opposite.

I like this one a lot, just seems so appropriate. Got all the right extra bits to make it believable and really does look Alien. I could speculate on the lack of plants but I have no idea about what they even breathe. Everything about this seems right, even the human taking a photo of the strange creature.
Nah, just musing on it.
Just thinking a mass effect style game with aliens and shit but with an added 4th spatial dimension would be crazy awesome and evil at the same time.
And I think it would be cooler to have halo with subtitles for the elites and the like, woulda felt pretty authentic.
Doesn't mean you can't still have them speak English when taunting you. And to be fair; Cortana can do this fancy thing:

Although that kinda breaks down in Halo 3 for obvious reasons.
I am afraid becose something odd would happen if aliens would come here or we would find them.
[sp]Man/woman + Alien = Sex[/sp]
I'm more worried about how radical muslims and christians will handle it.
Hopefully the aliens just kill them for us.

Tell that to the side missions. Even so, just because they aren't speaking English doesn't mean they aren't voice acting.
And if you had bothered to read anything beyond the last two words of my post you would know I was saying that
Even though:
- it was pretty fun to learn the numbers and characters in myst
Then it does not follow that:
- Doing so is the only alternative to having aliens inexplicably speak English.
Repeat; does not follow.
If District 9 has taught us anything, interspecies prostitution is good business.

And it's impossible to devolve, that implies evolution is directional.
What about vestigial parts? Bits and pieces of the creature's body that serve no purpose (either that its purpose is no longer needed or that it was replaced) would serve to be something that the Combine would remove. Why have something that does nothing when you can cut it off and replace it with much more efficient artificial manipulators?

That's not devolution, because it isn't directional.
The part is no longer used so it may disappear or it may not, just like the Plantaris muscles in our feet, which we still have.
And I'm not talking about the combine dude, I mean actual evolution.
Aliens are humanoid because it helps them utilize spiral power.
then i hope they like complete annihilation
Something else that should be considered is that lots of old sci-fi franchisees didn't have the budget to make strange looking aliens all the time.
I'd like to point out that Avatar didn't have Light Travel or anything like that
This.
Anything where Charles Pellegrino is involved doesn't have any FTL bull.
Sangheili are pretty inhuman in appearance, and yet their martial nature is still relatably human when they are unable to sacrifice their honor for the Great Journey and end up siding with humanity during the Halo Trilogy.
Other than that, I can't think of a solidly cool alien race that isn't excessively human-like in appearance in most entertainment. Seems like most people haven't tried. They just aren't memorable.
Edit:
Wiataminnit...turians.
Damnit. I was going to bring up sangheili. The problem is, their basic shape is still pretty humanoid, especially their muscular structure. The only difference is the hoofed, digitigrade legs, the two thumbs, and the entire head. the basic torso shape is similar.
Same with vortigaunts. To a degree. They still have very human muscle groups on the chest.
Fucking fine

they aren't sentient though
I have no problems with Humanoid alien like Prawns and such, but I hate when they look almost excacly like Humans.
That'd be, with the same kind of skin, eyes, general shape and such.
they aren't sentient though
I know...that was pushing it :v:
lol o

Alex Ries shares the same view. Here's his deviantart gallery: http://abiogenisis.deviantart.com/gallery/
That guy's amazing.
There have been several pictures in here supporting my idea, but i dont think aliens would look anything like we see on earth, cause if you belive in it, i think evolution in a different enviroment would cause intirely different looks and feel.
Well, I guess Avatar compensated with the beautifully animated forests.
I mean seriously, how can you beat the last war-scene?
I want a film to come out with intelligent aliens who look completely non-humanoid.

fucking awesome. So is there any water on his planet? because I remember reading something like the "ocean" is actually a huge blob of microorganisms or something.
Also, since you guys still haven't figured out the answer to this question that the SA users came to on the first page, most science fiction is meant to tell metaphorical stories, not accurately predict the future. Aliens are stand-ins for tribal humans, or foreign aggressors, or oppressed minorities, or other things. They're human because they're allegorical FOR humans, and therefore have to be relatable enough for the allegory to work.
If Neytiri was a silicon-based monstrosity who communicated in ultrasonic screams then the plot of Avatar would be emotionally unbelievable.
Does everything have to do with racism and minorities for you?
