TL;DR: "Why are bubbles round?"
If we were ever to encounter advanced life that has managed to accomplish as much as we have, they'd likely look the same given they live in similar conditions. The humanoid form is optimum.
There are tonnes of flaws with the humanoid form. e.g. the knees bend forward which is an inefficient way of walking and because we are upright we are more subject to heat loss, heat gain and absorbing the background radiation.
Hanar are silly, they can't even use guns
they can use 4 guns, with two legs left to stand
fucking awesome. So is there any water on his planet? because I remember reading something like the "ocean" is actually a huge blob of microorganisms or something.
I can't remember about water but they had the amoebic sea which was a massive living colony and there was a giant creature that walked through it and ate parts of the sea with its feet.
And the skewers and grove backs were so awesome.
Our brains really can't immagine a non humanoid alien because we have never seen one, and we have no idea what creatures look like on other planets. People say that all living bings need water to live, how do we know that? What if it's a different system for other lifeforms.
I think also Sci-Fi movies portray aliens as being carbon-based lifeforms... what if this isn't so?

There's that theory about Silicone-based life forms being possible. Such organisms wouldn't need water.

Hated these fuckers :ohdear:
Damnit. I was going to bring up sangheili. The problem is, their basic shape is still pretty humanoid, especially their muscular structure. The only difference is the hoofed, digitigrade legs, the two thumbs, and the entire head. the basic torso shape is similar.
Same with vortigaunts. To a degree. They still have very human muscle groups on the chest.
Not really, their spine is more like a curve, they're completely hunched over. And it really shows in some of the Halo 3 cutscenes where some of them lean back.
All aliens should look like Avatar people, Daleks or Cybermen.
Atleast in Star Trek: TNG they explained the whole thing.

Is that an alien Xenomorph? How could you hate those, they're amazing.
I always found the sentient gas bags that lived inside a gas giant in star control II to be a great example of thinking outside the box when it came to alien lifeforms.
Everyone knows we make them humanoid because they are humanoid in real life.

Fuck, now I have to watch that movie.
Can't seem to find it... anywhere. Can somebody send me a link?
I always found the sentient gas bags that lived inside a gas giant in star control II to be a great example of thinking outside the box when it came to alien lifeforms.
I like the gas bags but it's hard to see them gaining sentience in such a hostile and scarce environment. It's not even a complex world so there is really no reason for them to evolve intelligence in the first place.
Sorry, but seriously the Elites from Halo look very much like humans. Basically the same.
As same as the brutes, I wouldn't call them different.
Really surprised nobody has left this here. The Tyranids are arguably some of the most diverse aliens I've ever seen. Of course the naysayers are going to try to relate an alien to something on earth, it's human nature.
The Tyranids are a mix of different earth creatures, their legs are the same as dinosaur legs and the feet are the same of the kind you would find on a pig or horse, they have rib cages as humans and their arms looks a lot like crab arms but with different claws, their faces look a lot like the xenomorph's (see alien) head and it carries a lot of humanoid features such as a similar jaw but without lips and with more and sharper teeth, the head of the Tyranid warrior is almost a copy of the Xenomorph queen. they do look fearsome but they still bear a lot of human like features.

Which is justified, they steal other animals traits to evolve.
About interspecies translation, I think they did it right in Descent: Freespace (at least in 2, never played the original).
You can hear the alien language in the background of the delayed synthesized voice of the translator.
Xenomorphs are still pretty humanoidish, apart from the tail and the long head.
There's a reason for that though.
You only see the xenomorphs looking like that because the facehuggers use humans as hosts most of the time in the movies.
If a facehugger was to latch onto a cow or somthing, we'd get a weird looking cow-alien.
They basicly look like whatever the chestburster hatched from.
Read Lovecraft.
Giant cone-shaped aliens anyone?

Dude you do realise that claws etc are pretty common in nature?
I wouldn't be surprised if alien organisms that for example need to break their prey's shells in order to eat them would need some kind of claw type appendage, and so on and so forth.
This one has no arms or legs.

Elder Things are a damn creative alien.

I never understood why our balls are outside our body.
Seems like a huge flaw.

There is also the third arm, the tripple jointed bi-pedal legs. They're mouths if I recal correctly have the teeth pointed outward. They also have two holes where the lower body and legs are meet...for what purpose..I don't wanna know :ohdear:

You need to keep the sperm at the right temperature, that's why they shrink in the cold and sag in the heat.
Na'vi were basically just 10 foot tall humanoid cats.
