I don't know about you guys, but I'm perfectly fine sitting here eating doritos and drinking mountain dew
I love when dictatorships try to use phrases such as The eternal leader or the divine sovereign ruler when trying to spread propaganda to other countries. Do they honestly expect people from other countries to buy that bs?
It IS propaganda for US rather than them. That's why we have to watch it carefully and strip it off it's purpose and keep the important points. And see how our own way of living, even the things we condemn ourselves, extremism, war, poverty, are part of the system we live in and simply hold up by being, can be used against us just as we use their way against them. And if we can see clear how THEY are instrumentalizing ideas and facts, we can reflect about us. And maybe we all are a bit more careful when watching the news or history books next time.
DON'T LISTEN TO THIS IMPERIALIST. He's working for Bush and Blair.
You can't make a propaganda film against propaganda and expect it to be taken seriously.
Yeah, I'm almost certain this wasn't actually made by North Koreans, but by Western activists using the NK perspective as a style choice. It reeks of the same rhetoric as Zeitgeist, is far too in-tune with the issues we bring up about ourselves, and really doesn't have the North Korean flavour about it. Remember, this is not false western perception of other countries, they are actually knee-deep in shit. With food shortages, do you really think they're going to react the same way to Western obesity as we do? Not to mention the standard propaganda is blatantly wrong, this kind of intellectual change wouldn't go down well.
But who causes more violence and deaths in the world? Best Korea or the evil Western war machine?
Well hey I don't know man, the culture of about 40 countries (or less idk) that has about 500 million inhabitants...or the single country with little to no connection to the outside world, and has only about 30 million population...jeez, I wonder! This video is pure propaganda, yes western nations aren't the least violent, there are some things wrong with them, but uh, look at North Korea, they are 10000x worse off than us, if their viewpoint was in the position of the western nations, we would be the slaves they so say we are. Also, their definition of slave is someone who buys stuff, almost literally, damn us for enjoying items. People who are anti-stuff societies literally next to never will have a better alternative, and will NOT want to actually change the way they work, because they fucking enjoy stuff, we enjoy the things we can create, we enjoy cool games, cool phones, cool toys, all that shit...why the fuck wouldn't we?
But who causes more violence and deaths in the world? Best Korea or the evil Western war machine?
That's not a very good comparison to make, considering you're comparing one country of only around 25,000,000 people to pretty much the entire rest of the world. So of course that will make the DPRK look good.
It's a decent film if you take everything it says with a grain of salt and can get past the irony.
Anyone notice that in the first warning it calls it the DPKR and in the second warning it says DPRK? Classy
DON'T LISTEN TO THIS IMPERIALIST. He's working for Bush and Blair.
I think he is german.
i don't think north korean actually saw this documentary, too much information for them.
When are the other parts going to be uploaded?
Holy fucking shit look at one of the top comments : now we know the answer. Kim Jong Il is youtube ghost Just kidding, but isn't this all really fucking suspicious? Like I'm not one for corporate shit, I hate fashion, and junk food, and famous music, so I think I'm kinda fine
I took some pr/business classes and was disgusted of what i learned. It's really broken and don't want to have to do anything with it.
usa gets what usa wants
It brings up some pretty sober and interesting points, but it's still a vast hypocrisy. The way the "West" uses consumerism propaganda to "enslave" the minds of the population, the same way DPRK uses its person-cultism around their "beloved eternal leader" to enslave the minds of their own population. Surely you could argue that America bleeds its population of money in order to develop weapons, but how is that any worse than running a nuclear missile program while part of your population is starving?
any idea when the other parts will be uploaded?
Doesn't the "East" basically do the same thing too? They have access to TVs and the Internet which are populated with adverts. EDIT: I guess "western" refers to "advanced society".
So, someone just read Aldous Huxley's Brave New World recently eh?
Doesn't the "East" basically do the same thing too? They have access to TVs and the Internet which are populated with adverts. I watched part 3, I sort of find it ironic that they complain about how violence is portrayed in western societies. One year ago, I recall watching a cartoon which involved anthropomorphic NK soldiers killing "SAS-look alike" rat soldiers. Bear in mind that this was a cartoon targeted at children. Found it: 4:20 onwards.
Hear this from westerners themselves all the time, why should I care that another country is telling me the exact same thing.
YOU GUYS SHOULD CHILL
It's so incredibly spot on and hypocritical at the same time.
If I didn't know this was made by North Korea, I would have probably believed some of it. A lot of it actually seemed pretty correct, the only thing that gave it away was the fact that North Korea's media seems to be stuck with 1980's style video editing.
Regardless of who is documentary is made by , the infomation presented to you is absolutely true. It is just ironic that NK is the one to point it out to us :)
There is no way in hell that really is a North Korean propaganda film.
It is true, you learn more about yourself from your enemies than you learn from your friends.
Watching this makes me feel like I'm watching a conspiracy theorists' high school project. Sure "propaganda" exists but it's not hypnotic or brain washing. I want to look good but I'm not going to buy into a certain fashion trend because everyone else is. I don't have a phone because that's the cool thing to have. The music I listen to is catchy and you can sing along with it. If that's buying into propaganda, the way I see it, EVERYONE is buying into propaganda. They say in the first video they use words like "Democracy" and "Liberty" and use slogans that don't mean anything like "Just do it" Well what does Propaganda mean? What IS propaganda? Is it something that brainwashes you? Something you agree with? Nothing? This video is very interesting and has many points that we should be critical of but I hate people assuming that tv/commercials/advertisements brainwash us. My iPod Touch is the most useful tool I own. Not because the colorful tv box told me it was. Because I make use of the tools every day.
I have been contacted by the Police and asked to go in for an interview tomorrow (June 16) and discuss how I came into possession of this documentary. On legal advice I am posting this statement: on a recent trip to visit family in Seoul I was approached by two North Korean defectors with a request to translate a film. The following day I met with them and they handed me a disc with a copy of the film, which they said had recently been brought into the country by a defector new to their group. They asked me to translate the film and "make sure the world saw it" and an agreement was made to protect their identities (and mine). Despite my concerns about what I was viewing, I proceeded to translate and post the film here because of the extraordinary content. As I have posted earlier, I don't believe this film was ever intended for a domestic audience. I believe the 'defectors' specifically targeted me because of my reputation as a translator and interpreter. The fact that I have continued to translate and post the film in spite of this belief does not make me complicit in their intention to spread their ideology. I've chosen to keep posting this film because - regardless of who made it - everyone should see it for the issues it raises. Please share the uploaded parts while it's still on YouTube. I believe it is my right to share this film and that is what I will tell the Police tomorrow.
Shit. Anyway here is Part 4:
