Sleipner!

Sleipner was the steed of Odin! the king of gods in Asgaard
Heres the story of Sleipner
In the beginning when the norse gods were without a castle they called opon the best builder there was. (he had a name i can't remember) he wanted the sun the moon and the goddess of love and fertillity as his bride .. if he was to make the caslte walls for them.
he was only allowed to do so in 30 or so days .. so he and his horse did it ..
he was winning the bet and loki cheated ..
Loki appeared in the shape of a mare .. he lured the steed away.. fucked it and got knocked up..
he then killed the steed and the worker wasent done in time .. he got nothing
And loki gave birth to a freak horse with 8 legs.. odin was given the horse that he named sleipner .. The end!
That's got to be a fucking huge bird then.
Or maybe it's just in the foreground?

There aren't enough mythical sea creatures to make for an interesting thread, though
There aren't enough mythical sea creatures to make for an interesting thread, though
Ahuizotl
Rahab
Karkinos
Charybdis, Scylla
Hydra...
Everywhere has some kind of story as to why you should stay out of the deep water =P
If we're talking probably real things as well, look at some of the prehistoric monstrosities:

Personally...all of those are of course terrifying but the Giant Orthocone sort of takes the biscuit for being damn strange.
You're right though I guess, a lot of the stories about these beasties are practically the same thing. Meh. Thought I'd throw them out there anyways, maybe OP will appreciate it.
Edit: If he ever comes back.
God. He was made up by Christians to stop people from making scientific discoveries and further excelling the human race.
Ok well how about you go back to he wild because fact is most of the world wouldn't exist withought religion because quite frankly the atheist we see today is usually a loser who attacks people from the internet simply because they have done nothing useful with their lives, while religion has brought many things including hygiene and the west was built from Christianity.
Woah,I leave this thread for 7 hours to go to sleep and this thread gets filled.
Also,it's mythical gargantuan creatures IN GENERAL,not sea ones. But sea ones are quite abundant.
I kind of like how the dinosaurs were so fucking gigantic. What's the Leedsichthys measure?

While some teachings from Christianity have helped shape the world we live in today, (not including hygiene, that was a mainly thanks to the Greeks) the world would probably have been a better place without it and any other religion. We will never know.

Uhm err well they've only found scattered remains really, so it's difficult to say. Estimates vary fairly wildly, most drop in a region of around 9 to 10 metres, but one set of specimens suggest that up to 16 metres wouldn't be too great a stretch.
I think it would.
I shall sleep fine tonight because I am not a little kid. I often watch creepy shit because it puts me to sleep, granted I have a nightmare but they are meh, more exciting than normal dreams.

It's pretty obvious withought religions this world would have ended a long long time ago, and hygiene was mainly thanks to the Turkish Muslims who also invented soap which was brought to the rest of the world through trading.

And I suppose the Ancient Greeks had bathhouses to do what exactly? :downs:
Also, how exactly would the world have ended without religion?

King Kong, we all know him.
Actually, it was originally from Norse mythology. No Christians involved.
What? Care to elaborate?
Sorry dumb atheist here, I need it spelling out for me.
Or maybe it's just in the foreground?
It's not in the foreground at all, if you look at the distance it's at with the zoomed picture you can tell it's far away. Not to mention there's people in the picture who seem to be looking directly at it.

I'm also surprised no one has mentioned the Bloop yet.
I must say this thread has been rather dissapointing. Chaotica's above post involving Thor was great but otherwise meh. Needs me Loch Ness monster.

I think the seagull appears to be so huge because of it's awkward placement. Look how close it appears to be to the building. It is in such an awkward place that our brains trick us into thinking that it is "Mothman" and that it is farther away than it actually is. Let's see what I mean:

This is a representation of what it would have looked like if the photograph was taken 1/3 of a second before. It's obviously just a normal sized seagull flying in the general direction of the camera holder.

And this is a representation of what it would have looked like if the photograph was taken 1/3 of a second before, and if it was actually "Mothman". But it's not. Remember, Mothman does not exist.

Your brain has tricked you.
