If they exist, they could theoretically look like anything. If they come from a planet with a similar style to ours, then they may look like us, but if they came from anything else, like a high gravity planet, or a completely water planet, they would look like anything, due to them needing to adapt to their surroundings.
I bet the UFO's are just really full of Aliens who are douche bags
Just what we need. More trolls on the planet...
Why not?
Because there are so many possiblities of evolution and such...
If humans, an "intelligent" life form, grew bipedal, it doesnt mean that all intelligent lives will be bipedal and that the rest is not smart.
Would be cool if they were like those mythological creatures, though... like harpies and all...
Well this is the extent of the US governments ID system for this...
have extraterrestrial life visited earth? no
does extraterrestrial life exist? yes
Everyone says some planets are uninhabitable. Yes that's true for humans and animals from Earth, but how do we know that other life in the universe doesn't drink nitrogen, or breathe Sulphur Dioxide. How do we know that they even need to eat/drink anything.
We base our views of extra terrestrial life on what we already know from Earth and the Solar system, but beyond that, "life" could be completely different and evolved in a completely different way.
What is life?
What is life?
A stupid idea concerning "free will" and the ability "to act by ones own judgement". While all living beings do is react to external or internal triggers. A computer is just as alive as a human, in my opinion. It consumes electricity, processes data. Maybe a very simple life form, but then, we say microbes are alive.
Humans tend to consider anything organic "alive".
There might be others out there but i dont think aliens have this type of technology.
What is life?
kudos to you, sums up the whole debate.
Heck aliens could be some fucking gigantic mineral asteroid with an unsatisfied hunger which roams space looking for organic forms to absorb in order to be harder, better, faster, stronger.
[editline]12:30PM[/editline]
proove me wrong.
In a universe so massive it is impossible for there not to be some form of life on another planet. If they have the technology to reach us, I wouldn't be worried about that. I'd be worried about what kind of weapons they have and how violent they are.
There's definitely the chance of other life in the universe, but the idea of aliens visiting Earth is dodgy.

That would be awesome.

Sounds like a Robot Rock.
they are everywhere, humans got egocentric and think they are the only ones in the universe.
Thats all.
Thank god! SOMEBODY who also hates the 'If it can't sustain human life, it can't sustain life at all' attitude.

Anyone with any intelligence knows that's bullshit.
Anyone with any intelligence knows that's bullshit.
Sadly intelligence is rare on this planet.
I believe there is alien life out there, there has to be considering how big the universe is. Though I doubt aliens visit us or have ever visited us. With the whole comment on the government making this suspicious, I think they enjoy the idea what we think they deal with aliens. It's a good cover story for their experimental aircraft. There were loads of sightings during the Cold War, can't be coincidence can it?
People believing government top secret aircraft are alien aircrafts piloted by little green men, the government couldn't ask for a better cover story.

It's obviously a way that works. So I don't think it's really that outlandish to think that other intelligent lifeforms, somewhere in our universe, would evolve along similar lines.

We only evolved the way we did due to environmental pressures, there are a fair few other ways we could have evolved but didn't
We could have evolved like the martians from war of the worlds.
Didn't any of you see Independence Day? They're real.
Sounds like a Robot Rock.
You, my friend, have won the internet.

I don't think they would be more violent than us. If we had been more aggressive we would have nuked us already. If they have the technology to fly hundreds to thousands of light years they would have developed the nuke a long time ago and if they would be extremely aggressive they wouldn't hesitate to use it to kill each other.
This is somewhat off-topic, but here is the reason why I think we are exist:
Billions of years ago, alien scientists were bored or something and decided to create a planet to see if it could sustain life, and if we did, they could duplicate the results in front of their superiors.
They were sending probes, what we call UFO's, to see how we are doing. The U.S. Military felt the need to discover how they work, so they took advantage of the Roswell incident. A UFO crashed just outside of Roswell, New Mexico...and it just "dissapeared" after the Army came along. BUT the UFO's had reported to their commanding officers how the experiment it going. We as humans, felt the need for faster transportation. So we created cars that ran on fossil fuels. Those fossil fuels, and many other things, tore open a hole on the Ozone layer. That may cost us our lives. They think we have "messed up" and plan to terminate our existence in the year 2012 if we can't turn things around.
It may sound somewhat out there, but it may be possible. You never really know.
[editline]08:23AM[/editline]
Who says they look like us anyway? Nobody really knows except probably the U.S. Military stationed at Groom Lake (A.K.A. Area 51). The movies make them look like us. Two legs, two arms, one head, etc. Genetics could be a whole different story with extra-terrestrials.
[editline]08:30AM[/editline]
And another thing, the Mayans. They were here for...no body really knows how long. And they left so much technology that was WAY too advanced for their time. Calendars, clocks, etc. Mythology is completely based on these "Gods" who roamed the Earth flying everywhere, changing things with "magical" powers. Aliens? Quite possibly. The Bible, do I really have to go there? God, Jesus, Angels, very possible extra-terrestrial sightings. I just had to clear that up and hopefully open up some more discussion.
roswell is fake that's as far as i figured it out. Ir really was a scientific balloon.
I don't suspect there's life similar to use anywhere near us. But there will be somewhere else.
Thank god! SOMEBODY who also hates the 'If it can't sustain human life, it can't sustain life at all' attitude.
It is a reasonable starting point, otherwise we would just be choosing randomly.
My parents and I once saw an UFO (read: Unidentified Flying Object, not aliens). It was night and we saw a glowing wobbly yellow sphere. It hovered a bit pretty close to us and it seemed to be the size of a small plane. After that it flew into the distance and suddenly vanished.
...ball lightning.
I've seen a UFO, as in an unidentified flying object, not necessarily aliens. I have no idea what it was, but I was lying in a tent with just netting for a roof and a shitload of lights flew over, really close to the ground.

Those aren't aliens, that's just a stage light!
