putting a value on life and refusing to look beyond yourself to help another person out
There is a value on life. Is a doctor worth more than a cat? Should I look at that with the naive "All life is beautiful so both are equally valuable in the eyes of God" outlook you seem to have?
It's. A. Fucking. Cat!
9 are born for every time 2 screw.
One human, in contrast, per normal childbirth. Cats do nothing. Humans have the potential to save lives.
You are asking someone to think rationally in an FP thread. You are a Gold, you should know better than that.
I guess you're right, but still, it's going a little overboard to think that a human isn't worth more than a cat.

If he had died he would have brought on a lot more pain to the family of the cat than if his cat had just died.

It was the same in the thread in which the SWAT officers shot a dog while executing a high risk search warrant. All the unknowledgables were screaming abuse of power and that the police should be hanged and shot.
There is a good reason these people do not run the world.
I hate that everything is measured in money and other lifeforms means shit next to humans.
They have no perspective.
I hate that everything is measured in money and other lifeforms means shit next to humans.
...wow
I hate that everything is measured in money and other lifeforms means shit next to humans.
I hate that people are naive enough to think that a house pet that has no history of service to man besides hunting rats is worth as much as a potential doctor, police man, or lawyer.
Dumb move, you were lucky to survive, and for what? A cat?
Good move turning down the money though, they probably needed it more than you.

they did abuse their power. they don't deserve to be killed, etc. though. they need to be dealt with appropriately such as suspending them without pay.

Sure.

Go to that thread to argue about it, don't derail this one please.

This.
I do not understand why people are freaking about one cat when so many other animals are slaughtered in the millions for food. In their opinion, should we become cannibals to save the cute chickens, lambs, and cows?
I do not understand why people are freaking about one cat when so many other animals are slaughtered in the millions for food.
That's because we are emotionally attached to cats and such.
Sure.
yeah, because shooting a dog in a CAGE is justified.
what world do you live in? police officers are only allowed to shoot if there's an imminent threat. a dog in a cage is not a fucking threat.
You are derailing the thread, please go bump the other if you want to discuss it.
I will, but don't claim it was a justified shooting like you did in the thread.
FreakMe is the only correct one here the rest of you get out
freakyme doesn't have any credibility because he defended police officers shooting a dog in a cage
I don't see how you even heard how I said that sure, but okay.

No, you were correct at first then took it too far when you said saving a cat's life is more selfish than plain risky/idiotic
No, you were correct at first then took it too far when you said saving a cat's life is more selfish than plain risky/idiotic
How is it not?
[editline]11:24AM[/editline]
I mean, it can be selfish, IF HE DIED, which is inarguably right.
sounded like a sarcastic sure

This is my last statement on the subject - In my observations and knowledge of police work from having lived in one of the worst neighborhoods in the state and watching police work it, the actions were fully justified. In the 2 seconds after the door was open, they had no time to identify that the cage was even closed. It wasn't shot in a big pet carrier, it was shot in a fairly large pen.
I don't see how you even heard how I said that sure, but okay.
so now you want to argue semantics.. lol
it seemed like a sarcastic sure.

a dog in a cage is not a threat. they are only allowed to shoot if there is an imminent threat. I don't care if you live in a bad neighborhood or have watched police work. shooting is only a last resort and only if there a threat at that present moment. that's the protocol for every police agency.
To be honest, I read it as a sarcastic sure as well.
Anyways, if anyone can think up a reasonable argument for why saving the cat at the risk of his own was a good idea, and why not doing what he did is unreasonably selfish, please present it.

You enter the home of a suspected drug kingpin, as far as intel has told you. You open the door to the loud barking of what sounds like a large breed dog. Your eyes adjust as your flashlight sweeps the room, and you see a pit bull bolting in any direction. You assess that there is a large dog in the room that is moving quickly before you even realize it is in a cage that is sealed on all sides. You disable it to protect the well being of your squad.
Justified.
Lol at Trotsky.
