They're not really needed unless you're blending, and if you're doing that you can simply decrease the flow and use pen pressure for opacity.

just one tiny little thing, is it ur comic style to have their mouths a little to the side? like how the little dimple area above the lip kind of is a bit left in the picture? it looks fine, and works if its the comic style
but otherwise maybe it should be a little more underneath the nose like this

but like i said tiny detail that doesn't matter and im just not sure if its intentional or not so i thought id ask
[editline]7th May 2011[/editline]
either way he looks awesome

Also, my dad wants me to help him with a logo for his new business. One of his main ideas is that he wants a compass somewhere in it, so I had a play around with some stuff
do any of these work at all?

it is a consulting organisation and he wants a compass because it symbolizes direction

More work on mah turrist.
I like the ones on the far right where the G is the compass but it would make more sense if the red pointer on those would be flipped around. because the G represents the compass (i assume) and the pointer should start in the middle of the compass.

Bottom right one is the best, and as strider said make the compass pointer in the center of the G (horizontally flip it) However it might look like a C, if it does use the one where the compass is small and is above the g
Here's a logo I just finished doing:

I don't normally like making generic logos with just a font and a little decoration, but it's for a company that does augmented reality software, so there's nothing really that's specific to the field :smith:

with ur brush on low opacity you don't get the actual value you want, you're just guessing and it will look messy and blablabalabal watch the beginning of this video, it's explained

[editline]7th May 2011[/editline]
tho the video explains for brushes with pressure sensetivety, which is bad for concept design the same rule applies for brushes with low opactity in painting so just think of it that way

Pictures of the finished set. If you want to know, the play is set inside a shaker town/village. The grass acts as a divide for the outside scenes and the stage for the inside scenes.

Is the play like a popular script or is it their own story?

I understand why low opacity is bad and all, but why is pressure sensivity then alright?
I don't see why it would make a difference in concept design. Surely with any painting you're always working to get the best result and most accurate values?
The play is called 'As it is in Heaven' and it's a combination of 'Deliver us from Evil' and 'As it is in Heaven' and the directors own writing. Not to be confused with the film.

that's Detlef's argument, using pressure sensitive opacity brushes gives shoddy values, however using pressure sensitive flow makes it look good

except this image

clearly shows a pressure sensitive opacity brush with a big tick underneath.

it's not opacity it's flow. see on the left is full opacity low flow and on the right is full flow low opacity. They're both controlled with pressure sensitivity

yeah but.. they have the same effect really, both give varying values based on pen pressure.
yeah but.. they have the same effect really, both give varying values based on pen pressure.
yes but opacity reduces the opacity and flow reduces the amount of circles that you place down in a brush stroke. Detlef isn't comparing painting with pen pressure as apposed to no pen pressure, she's illustrating how turning your opacity to pen pressure looks like crap where as turning your flow to pen pressure looks much better

oh okay I understand now, I just didn't really get how flow worked. sorry about that

I used low flow for both of these.

in my eyes yes, the green one is more or less spot on but the second one needs work:

Yeah, I guess I got too lazy to add any reflected light on it.
I like the texture that the ball has and according to chesty, detlef, lazylion and others you should work in greyscale
WENDIDISAYDIS?

A little doodle I did a few minutes ago.
maybe i did. i have a terrible memory.
but yeh for learning how to blend and use your tablet properly and use brushes properly and for learning to observe and stuff it's probably better to start in black and white cos you don't have to concentrate on as many things

pea head, no definition in the leg (they're just poles... could have at least put in folds in there like you did with the left arm) and giant wonky AK
other people can probably pick up on other stuff
i like the style though. what medium(s) is this?
