meh. its not funny when ur trying
I got a tablet. Now to get to drawing cloud v2.0.
Well is this "better" then? [img_thumb]http://th02.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2010/036/8/a/Carl_at_Burger_King_by_Fnorkus.jpg[/img_thumb] lol
I see that he masturbates with his left hand a lot
It's illegal to draw on top of graph paper.
Doodles. I recently started using opencanvas, but was dismayed when i could't find the brush opacity slider. so I guess I'll just have to follow detlef's advice and only use the colour selector from now on
Now I think I pretty much got the values and stuff in the face. It still looks a bit funky but it's probably the best I can do. At least it looks better than before. I notice his head isn't quite as tilted as in the reference, but I'll just let it slip by. The nose is too thin, too, I see. Gotta fix that.
Your values are too strong in the dark and too light in the light. Also by not tilting his head you are making his head stretched. Press him down to his original height or start tilting (which does require you to press down the height, because if not you'll just get a tilted stretched face).

The hair will get noticably lighter once I get the details in.
I guess his head does look a bit stretched. You also completly missed out on the fact that the light grey big spot on his neck is his actual neck and not a shirt. Right now his neck is just a small upside-down triangle. Oh, and another reason he has as tretched face is because it's not wide enough. You really cut out a lot of skin on his (our left) side.
Also, I think there's shadows from his hair near his right eye but you've painted it like some weird makeup/eye-liner or something. This is the problem with working with such a tiny, low-quality reference.

Shit, this is way harder and taking way longer than it should've.
Also, I think there's shadows from his hair near his right eye but you've painted it like some weird makeup/eye-liner or something. I chose it to get some challenge, but it turned out to be a bit too much of a challenge.
Shit, this is way harder and taking way longer than it should've.
Well, that's because you draw like me. Too detailed right off the bat. Not enough splotches of shades around the areas shapes or shadows are and then slowly refine them into details afterwards. You care about all the details right away, throwing in that curved shape that is at that size in that placement and then that other shade over there with that curve oh and...

I used to be like this and my digital work suffered horribly until I found the proper tutorials.

Is there a way to rotate selections in Photoshop CS3? That way I could easily tilt the head without having to do it all over.

@ PLing and dgg Thank you. I hadn't really given the transition much attention, so I'll fix that when I have time.
