i promised myself to do photostudies only, but i started with this one long time ago and just had to finish it but somehow it feels like a fucking WIP
They look flat
How is your username pronounced? [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] ^
i've got a dual monitor setup... but it's nothing fancy like some people get with double 24" screens or something like that. i've got my fancy 22" as my main thing but the second monitor is just an old 4:3 piece of junk. that said, it is the most invaluable piece of junk in the world
yeah I could easily put my laptop next to my monitor and just display the picture on my laptop, but the screen is so dim and horrible it doesn't really feel worth it.
I go like this
you drew him on 1 layer? whoa
lol yeah why would I need any more [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] its a painting
daft spunk
you drew him on 1 layer? whoa
.... how many layers are you using? i do most studies on 2 layers - just the foreground and the background (although that law wasn't applied to my zappa portrait cos i needed an extra layer for the tash/eyebrows/hair for practicality's sake) if you start using a layer for every individual body part/colour/material/bit of clothing/depth then it all starts to look like a weird flat collage
dat daft

well fuck me, i used to draw everything on 1 fucking layer, then people start telling me to use as many layers as possible. godamit
well fuck me, i used to draw everything on 1 fucking layer, then people start telling me to use as many layers as possible. godamit
use as many layers as possible for anything other than painting and stuff use as many as possible for vectors and shit like that
yeah for painting I use like 1-3 layers, but for like comic pages I have to use them for everything. So it really depends on what you're doing
Let's take that portal thing i drew. I've made about 10 layers for it.
Layers are always cool http://algenpfleger.deviantart.com/gallery/?catpath=/#/d3fh73c [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] Even for painting
How do you eyeball the colors so well. I'm always way off so I tend to stick with black and white.
How do you guys do digital painting with a reference? Do you like have photoshop on one half of the screen and the reference photo on the other? or do you switch between the photoshop and the reference windows? I wish I had a dual monitor setup or something.
I obviously do more 3D art than anything else, but I'm always using references, this is my work setup. holy fuck man am I jealous.
Hey Ajacks, how did you mount those side monitors? I don't see any stands or anything. [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] Looks very clean
I'm trying to get back into digital painting again and I wanted to ask you guys a question as well, do you guys sample colours straight from references or do you pick your own? I always try and pick my own but sometimes it doesn't match well.
Hey Ajacks, how did you mount those side monitors? I don't see any stands or anything. [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] Looks very clean
Everything is wall mounted clean as a whistle. Behind the main array is a custom fab'd wall mount that mounts all 3 monitors to the wall with recessed gang plates that run all the cables through the wall under the desk.

I just kept looking on ebay for hazard lights.

sure love your king of the hill
I envy that setup.

You would have to install it properly, like cutting into the wall and adding wiring and a switch, all the good stuff. [editline]11th May 2011[/editline]
sure love your king of the hill
That was taken during my Netflix fueled power run through the whole series. I love netflix.
I tried dual monitors once. Way too much for me :sigh:
I tried dual monitors once. Way too much for me :sigh:
Ever since I got a dual setup years ago I could never return to single monitors without good reasons. It's so compact, so tucked in and limits productivity, general work-flow and browsing by a fuckton.
I never seemed to use the second screen. I guess it's something you just have to grow into
