Now I remember why I started to sign all my work... When I drew stuff for my friends, they requested me to sign on the pieces I gave them. They told me that signature is what gives value to the piece.
Now I remember why I started to sign all my work... When I drew stuff for my friends, they requested me to sign my work. They told me that is what gives value to the piece.
the art itself is the value
It might be a perspective thing then. Some traditional artists sign at the back of the canvas, where some sign at the front, some don't even sign. As long as it does not cover up the image itself, I think it's tolerable.

there is no back for digital painting though, so either to sign or not to sign :(
the latter is the obvious choice
there is no back for digital painting though, so either to sign or not to sign :(
Put your name in the filename? Who cares, it's just a scribble
I only sign and date my completed pieces for personal records. My signatures are small, so no one gives a shit.
too late lol
Not really. I've had to scrap finished pieces because they just didn't work. People need to learn to kill their darlings as they.
I hate watermarks But I don't get why people don't like other people signing work. It's kinda a mark that shows you're proud of it or have finished it and that's the sealing stamp. People really shouldn't care as long as it doesn't detract from the art.
I do not feel quite as embarrased over this one, it might be a tad bit too round and the ears are undetailed, but in my opinion it is actually not that bad.
[img_thumb] http://i.imgur.com/ELQM3.jpg[/img_thumb] one-upped
i dont see anybody one upping anybody
yeah I'm just being an ass
Detlef, i don't know if anyone has ever asked you this before, but could you possibly record one of your photostudies or even a speed drawing. And from the looks of the people here, it'd be awesome if you drew a human character. i learn alot from seeing other people begin and finish a drawing
http://youtu.be/SIFA8VEbA4A Disregarding what a horrid creation it is, it's still pretty helpful.
Can anyone recommend any books or websites to learn how to "digitally paint"? Since it's not really a big thing here (industrial painting, like they use in movies or games) I can't seem to find any study that will help me. Therefor, I'm going to teach myself how to do so, and the internet isn't very helpful to me so far: the only thing I get is either "HOW TO DRAW THE BEST ANIME CHARACTER" and such but nothing related to perception, lightning and the likes. Can anyone recommend me anything? I've looked everywhere and I'm out of sources (Google). Something in the lines of, but not necessary like: Also does this question deserve it's own thread?
HNNNG fzd school of design, marry me
i feel so useless after watching that video
watch all of fzd's videos weep and learn
watch all of fzd's videos weep and learn
Like he said in one of those said tutorials; you'll learn the fundamentals in that school. All the tutorials he provides are all "side-shows". And I don't possess the fundamentals, which I'm eagerly wanting to learn.
well ok u guys who have the fundamentials down. watch them [editline]14th May 2011[/editline] I learned alot from them
We call that the dgg syndrome.

Also Maya I'd like if you could limit your progression pics to maximum 3. People get sick of seeing pic after pic with little progress
I like seeing progress pictures unlike you guys. Seeing the progress is more interesting to me than seeing the finished piece (unless it's something mind blowing, which I don't think I'll ever see here, at least not in a couple of 5 more years).
i went a little overboard with the printing as it turns out, office works is REALLY CHEAP, and I got A0 confused with A1 so i have a gigantic print on my wall now it looks a lot smaller in the photo though [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1482927/Posters/photos/snake%20printed.jpg[/img_thumb] [editline]14th May 2011[/editline] upward angle because its up so high also im the worst at taking photos in the world [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1482927/Posters/photos/snaake.jpg[/img_thumb]
Nice to see one of your posters printed, suits them better. Looking pretty good.
lol I never sign. may be cuz my signature is fucking ugly. No wait I don't want proof that I did it. nope it's not that, I don't feel important enough to sign. pro people sign their shit so I guess u feel more important if u have a big fancy signature. at least its not a watermark goddamn they're ugly why would anyone want to put that on their art
Signatures are silly unless it's something you do for fans or something, on physical copies. It's ok to sign the back of a physical piece though, you never know if it'll for whateverthefuck reason get digged up 200 years later, always nice for them to know who made it. But digital copies? We got image information and titles for that.
The only place I see applicable for watermark is when you are selling the image in which people have to pay to see the full version without watermark. [editline]14th May 2011[/editline] speaking of the devil, I found this: [img_thumb]http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/134/9/b/jessica_the_school_girl_by_saveme98-d3gb8eh.jpg[/img_thumb]
Well, if it is a commercial piece, then sure you kinda have to since you don't really have the ownership of it, the company/project group owns it. But if it's something you've just decided to put on sale? Ehhh... I'm more into the thought of "Here, you can have the full res of this piece I made. If you want to, feel free to buy a print of it as well". After all it costs money to make a print yourself and you need access to the equipment which costs money as well, so they would really just be better off buying a print anyways (but they could of course look up cheaper places to get it printed, but so what?). But then there is of course the whole difference of; living by sales of art or work and sell art on the side? if you want to live off of it you can't really take the risk of most of your potential customers just getting your full-res image for free.
That was an incredible test, the data I have collected from it is mind blowing, stay tuned.
Ok guys here the findings of this test: From the 174 guys questioned, only 5 chose to rate this post. Friends, I found something I did a long time ago with a shitty Graphire tablet.
I'll just leave these here.

[img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2319552/EyePainting.jpg[/img_thumb]
I still use my graphire tablet :( It's weird because even with the drivers the pressure sensitivity doesn't seem to work the same as the newer ones do, I just can't get it to function like anyone else's tablets.
Just doodles in class, nothing good.
