Here's a video I recorded and edited from this weekends drift event
I'm willing to do a Proper 100% Brush Detlef Approved selfportrait if detlef makes one too. And lazylion. And everyone else. Maybe I can get LORD M to do one too. :v:
I just started working on an oil painting self portrait, does that count?
Started experimenting with color schemes for my revised logo.

I'm trying to go for earthy tones (hence the green and browns), or deeper tones (hence the purple) but... not sure if I'm on the right track. I'll withhold my personal opinons in favor of your guy's super harsh critique skills :c00l:
I have two versions for each, a rougher/earthier looking one, and a cleaner looking one. Do you prefer the rough or the clean ones? It's a subtle difference, I know.
Any other C&C is welcome.
EDIT: Also, I changed "design" to "experience something" since my portfolio involves stuff other than strictly graphic design related stuff (most notibly level design/modding stuff). Should I change it back, change it to something else, or just axe it (at the risk of losing clarity to people who glance at my logo)?
^ cleaner
I don't like your color scheme, all of them seem too earthy for me
They would look better if they weren't on white. They will nearly always be on white though so you need to make them more neutral.

I was actually thinking about having them on predominatly neutral or brown backgrounds.
Suppose I should have tried showing that. That said, for a white BG such as this, I'll try making them more neutral toned.
Though that said, why are neutral tones better on white? I would think richer or more vibrant tones would be better, or darker tones that would contrast with the white background.
I find this interesting, so I wanna know
does everyone always think their own work is worse then other people's?
(I think I placed that apostrophe incorrectly)

I like the cleaner top right hand one

I do, right here
Contrast is good.
I do, right here
I do too but it's probably because it is in fact worst here
[editline]25th April 2011[/editline]
but at school I am godly with photoshop, you should see the work here, liquefy a fish an tint it blue and then place it on a picture of an ocean is like top of the class work, it's very disappointing
It's a matter of perspective, I know that my stuff could always be improved upon
I don't like the artifacts around the edges.
Last minute color experimenting, messed with the hierarchy a little:

Gonna stick with cleaner plus one color name. Done for the night
I like moldy vadka sauce
Yeah, but it's too bold for my tastes :\
I like the contrast but I don't like how in your face and vibrant it is, which is opposite of the more earthy and deep feel that I'd like to go for. I wish there was a way to do that and still have that color contrast.
Arg I'm terrible with color
add another color to the thing, depending on the color you would use, it could mute the red, but not drown it out.
but then again, what do I know?
Neither the card nor the logo give the viewer any indication of what the company's purpose is.
Neither the card nor the logo give the viewer any indication of what the company's purpose is.
could be like a park reserve or something, it explains the compass and the "experience something"
orange and green usually come out pretty well together.
Neither the card nor the logo give the viewer any indication of what the company's purpose is.
It's a personal logo, not for a company. And it's not a card, just a simple template I whipped up to compare color pallets and figuring out which would fit best. Ideally I've envisioned an analogous colorscheme versus a contrasted one, but contrast simply just pops more even if it's too bold for the feeling I want to convey.

Something I did this morning at about 2AM. Not too happy with it but I just wanted a wallpaper, and there was no large versions of that picture.
Her back seems really bulky
[editline]25th April 2011[/editline]
But other than that it looks great
I just started working on an oil painting self portrait, does that count?
I don't see why not since you can't really cheat using oil paint. :v:

I think blue might go better with orange since they're complimentary colours.

glados looks great but what's up with chell's arm/armpit
looks pretty fucked up
[editline]25th April 2011[/editline]
and her hand going in the portal gun, and the portal gun itself too
they don't look right
[editline]25th April 2011[/editline]
u might want to look up some images of the portal gun and see what it actually looks like from other angles because i'm pretty sure the bottom bit your hand goes into is a curvy top and a long slot without a bottom underneath for your arm with a handle there somewhere

Yeah I didn't spend much time on Chell. I might fix her up if I can be bothered. Thanks for the tips.
well, it's done I think that the timing and everything is ok but you guys will probably find something wrong
