Does anyone know of any good tutorials on how to use values?
I have decided that palm trees are stupid

I liked it better with the palm trees
it's better with palm trees, also i don't like the font/kerning on the BASED ON THE TRUE STORIES line, also stretch the credits less vertically

The palm trees were a serious pain in the ass. I couldn't get them to look right. So when I turned off all the palm tree layers in Photoshop I realized this looked way better. Minimalistic is where it's at.

How is it better with the palm trees they looked like shit. The fonts I can agree with.

Same, it made it more obvious that the flag was also a sunset
You guys are killing me. But okay back to Photoshop it is.

Without the clouds though
Making a breath mint tin for an assignment. They're caffeinated mints. Here is a work in progress for the label.
What do you guys think? Too much green? I think the illustration is a bit lacking.

At least there is too much non-contrasting green.
It might sound strange but I find pencil really unforgiving. I can draw pretty damn good hands with a biro but they look shit in pencil.
I found a stack of fax paper (with the little rip sides on them), and decided not to waste them, so;
A forever W.I.P., the idea is I add a paper to it every night or two, and eventually fill up my wall with these... I use Sharpy's and Sharpy pens and some Pink Floyd to make them.

Slight music references in the top right, I'll add more music references as I go.
Also if anyone can name all three references (logo's, album art, etc) I'll love you.
[editline]22nd May 2011[/editline]
Also, the reason I don't do a project like this on a big-ass sheet of paper, is that I'd be overwhelmed with all that space. I have a pretty short attention span, so a small paper a night works for me very well.
Okay ya bunch of treehuggers

here's your damn trees.
muchos better but the text still feels off
the tagline is too vertically stretched compared to the title, and also too far down
also the credits still feel to vertically stretched, it doesn't fit
My laptop recently decided to give up and melt, so I'm having to put up with 21 days of laptoplessness. My laptop was the only tablet compatible device I had so that means 21 days of drawing... on paper.

Ugh.

I agree but the font is actually at 98% height now, so it's actually compressed. I'll redo the text tomorrow after I haven't looked at it for a while. All I can see is palm trees right now.
My ideal future of relaxing on a tropical island is forever ruined because of my hate for palm trees.
That you people have created.
also ur missing a lot of credits
http://www.impawards.com/tv/posters/pacific_ver4_xlg.jpg
if u add them all i think it would be much more fuller down the bottom
like this or something

Ah okay I see, thanks.

90% of those credits are 'WRITER OF EPISODE 1' 'WRITER OF EPISODE 2' so I just let them out. But I can add them I guess.

Thanks, I've got the same policy as Rusty, if you want the full res poster just say it and I'll post it.
Also it was not my intention to clog up the thread with just posters.

You know what would be awesome?
A 1920x1080 version with no text, just the cool paper effect, the ground, the sun and the trees.
Like so -

How about something like this?

Ha that was not what i was insinuating at all, just movie posters seem to be a trend in this thread. Also that reminds me, what kind of canvas size do you work with when making posters?
motherfucking hands, how do they work?

Really happy with some of them, ashamed of others.
Still, very awesome progress considering I started practicing yesterday and they all looked like shit then. I've realised that the hand is made of up a trapezium shape for the palm, then an oval for the thumb chunk, and this seems to work in every situation. I don't bother doing primitives with the fingers, I find it more restrictive than anything.
have you read andrew loomis' drawing the head and hands?
if not,
do so
Some look a bit flat

By the way.
Do you guys actually read all of the stuff in those books or just the stuff around the illustrations?
