I'm working on a digital portrait of Hunter S. Thompson That nose and mouth area is a real pain and I'm having a hell of a time getting those glasses to look right, any advice?
i think his face looked squished
i think his face looked squished
Like what do you mean? Is that nose/mouth area too small? Squished is a little vague.
well i'm not sure i think maybe the glasses are too low or two small or his face is just closer together because in the reference he has a long face but in yours he has a short face [editline]24th May 2011[/editline] or maybe it's his nose
I think the face looks weird because there are no shadows on the cheeks.
well i can't really thicken them since... that's how thick they were to begin with. but yeah they do look a bit hard around the edges. i don't know if it was the resizing or whatever, because i think they still look fine big. guess i'll have to find a happy medium.
I mean with content aware or ingenuity, just a suggestion if you wanted to try it. I googled for some stock images of cheerios and I can find plenty that are thicker and have smaller holes. Here's the fifth result for "cheerios". http://sacchef.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/cheerios-1.jpg Way thicker than the ones you used. Anyways, the edges do look a lot better full size, but even if they look bad with the edges softened up close, they might look better when they're smaller.
I lowered the bottom half of the face, and raised the forehead a little bit, is it any better? I think the forehead might be a little too high. edit: I don't know, maybe it'll look better once I start adding values.

his ears don't match, other than that it's good
Any graffiti makes the place look more rough and more shit, even if it's well done. At my local skate park they made it legal to do graffiti on this big wall, and there are other legal places around the country. Anywhere other than that though and I really don't like it. It's not their property to paint. If they want to do it then they should be prepared to do it on a wall in their back garden or something, if they don't have one then tough shit. I mean, you could say "oh you can't stop them from doing their art" but that's bullshit. It's not fair to paint property which doesn't belong to them. That said I'm perfectly ok with people doing it in those legal places.
But it's perfectly fine that companies plaster huge advertising campaigns throughout every city and shove what they have to sell down the throats of the public? Any beauty or interest in urban spaces comes from individuality. If there's a blank grey wall, fucking paint it, leave a message or idea or image there. Nobody asked me if I minded looking at a sixty by twenty foot beer ad every time I go to the bus stop. Fair doesn't come into it. [editline]24th May 2011[/editline]
I finished it, or at least the guy wanting it as a tattoo is satisfied enough and I can't be bothered anymore.
Dude, if that's a tattoo design, you should feel incredibly privileged, and you should pour your heart and soul into making the design the best you can make it. In a few months or years you might check it out on the guy, and realise you should have erased the head completely and started it from scratch (just as a random example.) If someone's getting something more or less permanently on their skin out of your hands, work your ass off whether you're getting paid or not. It'll be a credit to you until the end of your days (Or his)
Reminds me so much of Shadow of the Colossus! Loved that game.
are you implying that the image is so bad you'd rather talk about something nicer, like the game it reminds you of?

I'd rather see adverts still anyway. Graffiti just makes a place look like a mugging spot.

And what about that guy who made graffiti by cleaning dirt off walls with templates?

It's just cleaning up the lines and making the whole piece more detailed and cleaner. It's not necessary to do this, but if I had been feeling better about the piece as a whole then maybe I would've poured more time and a bigger canvas into it.
Just got a tablet, tried to draw some stuff. Terrible at drawing and stuff so didn't come out well, enjoy! http://i.imgur.com/nCKny.png http://i.imgur.com/KDGgn.png

of COURSE HE HAS TO SIGN IT how the fuck else will people know HES THE ONE THAT DREW IT????
Signature... Really?
You have to admit, even if his drawings aren't the best (though they aren't bad tbh), his signature is fancy.
I'm in the same boat, I'm an awful artist but I always hear my signature is lovely.
Hey! Don't criticise my signing of work, it makes me feel special :)
whatever floats your boat

i thought it was obvious, but maybe not :c
you could also use the font for one of those fact posters like: "the amount of nutrients from the cheerios in this sentence equals to the daily nutrient intake of a/an -insert 3rd world country- family" but obviously phrased better [editline]24th May 2011[/editline]
i thought it was obvious, but maybe not :c
The first time I saw it I thought you arranged all the cheerios into letters and then took a photo of it but it seemed like too much work
yeah! well i was talking with some friends and a couple of suggestions of some sort of cheerios promotion/importance of breakfast poster/magazine type pages or something. i'm gonna try and make some progress today, just got to go to town first and not quietly die in a corner.
