Princess Mononoke is pretty fucking awesome. [editline]24th April 2011[/editline] Is Appleseed pretty fucking awesome?
The only anime I like is paranoia agent, cowboy bebop, and trigun. The rest are shit to me. Oh and ghost in the shell.
I am so glad that you recommended me this show.
I'm surprised nobody has recommended it yet, more people need to watch this show. All the episodes are on youtube.
They just don't want to. You're not their intended audience. Yeah, it's hard to find an anime as atmospheric as games like HL2 often due to pacing issues and the fact that I think an interactive medium is simply more immersive. That being said, there are animes that have pulled atmosphere off like Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell. I don't think I've seen the "the world has been conquered by aliens and we just have to put up with it" atmosphere in HL2 in any anime so far though.
I actually did like Bepop and Ghost in the Shell :v:
Princess Mononoke is pretty fucking awesome. [editline]24th April 2011[/editline] Is Appleseed pretty fucking awesome?
I fell asleep while watching Appleseed, so make of that what you wish.
Also if you like Cars, Initial D is pretty good imho. It's not all that asinine though, only a few moments are kind of asinine.
mushishi and fullmetal alchemist are pretty good. Really the only animes i watch, though.
Wow, just watched two episodes of mushishi. Very low key and relaxing. Like, I could fall asleep if it weren't so interesting, and that's not a bad thing.

I watched a movie called Sword of the Stranger. Was pretty good and fighting scenes were animated very well. :buddy:
Dunno if this was already mentioned, too lazy to look through the other pages ( Aren't we all? ) Avatar The Last Airbender and the new series their gonna make called Avatar The Legend of Korra
Summer wars is one of the best animated movies i seen
Oh yes, Agree'd. Watched it ALOT. The art style reminds of Haruhi Suzumiya...but also it doesn't remind me...I don't get it.

Was anything made by Junji ito ever made into an anime?
- FLCL - few any asinine moments
I never really got what this anime was about really all i know is some space pirate got away or something and the series ends or something, it's confusing. but apparently it was so popular the team behind avatar the last airbender was ordered to buy and watch flcl for inspiration. [editline]28th April 2011[/editline]
Was anything made by Junji ito ever made into an anime?
There's actually a Anime For Gyo in production right now http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-03-02/gyo-horror-manga-by-tomie-junji-ito-gets-anime

I entered this thread thinking "Finally, someone who understands! Maybe I can finally watch an anime other than Cowboy Bebop and like it." I was severely disappointed.

I think my biggest problem with anime shows are those god damn cut away things that have all of the characters simplified with exaggerated expressions (exaggerated expressions in general, really). If I wanted humor in a show, I don't want it to be 'lol we made them have a silly face'. (I only recognize Full Metal Alchemist from those pictures, I just wanted to explain what I meant) I will not watch it if that regularly happens. It pisses me off when a normally serious character does that. The only reason I could stand Ed is Cowboy Bebop is because she's always like that. So, if those shows fit the description of lacking what I just described, then I will try them.

I don't care for the faces thing and that show tends to do it a lot.

I honestly don't see the problem. (not saying looney tunes sucks either, i love looney tunes)

Exaggerated expressions/reactions are a stable of nearly anything related to comics/animation/etc. I can understand what you mean when a show is just stupid and the characters are stupid but it's never been a deal breaker for me.
Kaiji and Akagi.
Yeah, I'm slowly learning that :v: Fuckers, oh sure We can adapt their culture but they can't even connect with their western fans :v:
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt was basically made like a western show, with everything in English except for most of the dialogue, but I don't know if that belongs in this thread. I'd definitely recommend it otherwise. Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei is critical of modern life, written by a satirist, with a deeper humour than what you're having problems with, but you need to go in open-minded because it still does what you're complaining about as well.
Because American cartoons totally don't do that either right?
i can only really think of one that tries to be serious and does that and it's based off of anime we don't really have much in the way of story based animation hell the closest we have to actual animation in cartoons is superjail
