I want to make a V or Explorer someday with my dad who is a carpenter :)
I love your threads, it's great to see how you make/improve your guitars. Looking forward to seeing how this comes out

The finish on that thing is beautiful.
That's nothing yet. it's still kind of tacky and orange-peeled. Once it's leveled it's going to be like glass :3:
I can play guitar, makes me wish I could build my own.
Do you plan on pursuing this as a career?
In the short term, no.
It's not really something you can jump into. I'll do it on the side for a few years and see where it takes me.

Had to redo the neck. Faulty measurement caused the last one to be short. I redid it with a tele-style headstock, because I can continue the shaping up onto the headstock, making it way more comfortable when playing closer to the headnut. Lighting was acting up a bit, so the shots today aren't great. I'll try to get some outdoor shots tommorow, my camera responds a lot better to natural lighting.

The neck is nice and chunky in my hand. I'm starting to like necks that extend further into my palm. I find it a bit slower to play that way, but it's comfy
Finished up most of the neck today. Will be spraying more lacquer tomorrow.

...you haven't seen many guitars have you...

Surprisingly, it's not even that big. Though it's made a bit fatter. The blank stock I use is slightly thinner than you'd find on most commercial guitar, so the neck starts out a bit thinner in the first place.

I guess it's all a matter of taste. It's a natural looking guitar, nothing too flashy or expensive. If natural is what you're into, then that piece of wood used for the body is a fine piece of walnut. The neck is coming out quite nice, too.
never seen a neck that colour before, it's awesome.

The Original neck shape and non reversed style looked better before on the strat.
I personally think the reversed or a tele stock dont belong on this guitar.

Not doing it for looks. It adds more tension to the wound bass strings. Will make string bending on the higher strings easier. As well as add more treble to the wound strings, and add more bass to the unwound strings. Also, as I said before, the curved rear of the reverse style tele headstock is very comfortable when playing closer to the headnut because you can stick your thumb out.
Doing it for performance reasons, not for looks. That being said, I think it looks good.

I like the reverse headstock. Looks like you might be able to salvage this. Also, how does the kind of wood the guitar is made out of affect the sound? I can't manage to see how it works that way.

i assume that different woods resonate differently, thus vibrating the bridge and therefore vibrating the strings differently. That's my guess, but I'm no guitar builder.
It's down to density of the wood and how hard it is, affects how it resonates and vibrates. Bad wood will result in a dead or flat sound that doesn't sound good, better wood will sound deep and resonant with a full and rich tone. Different woods can also serve to someone preference, for example someone wanting warm sounds with big mids and lows will use mahogany (walnut as hypnotoad is using is quite a bit like mahogany in tone).
It depends on dense the particular piece is, attributes like porous grain or solid grain will change the way it vibrates. Different specifies will sound different from one another due to their common density and grain attributes.
I think just rapping on the body with your knuckles gives you a good idea of the differences between woods. If I rap on a solid padauk body I have, it makes a higher pitched plinking sound. When I wrap on the walnut body, the plinking sound is not as sharp as the padauk, has more of thump to it. Padauk is very resonant, it vibrates very easily. Walnut doesn't vibrate so spectacularly, so it will color the tone in it's own way.
I know strings and knuckles are different, but it still gives you an idea of how there will be differences. Things like chambering the body will make the thin top layer behave differently, thereby changing the tone.
Woods will shape the "character" of the guitar (how "warm" it is, how naturally acoustic it is). Pickups will shape the sound quality and how that sound character is projected.
There is really no such thing as a "tonewood" all woods are tonewoods; given that you use them for suitable parts of the guitar. Incredibly dense woods like cherry or oak will not be good for a body, but could probably be used for a neck or thin body cap. Just like how a soft wood can not be used for a neck. Every wood has it's place.
Finish on the body is leveled and all buffed up.

nice render
I like your work, I'm starting a guitar project in my engineering club. How do you get the body and neck? Are they custom carved or pre-made?
Are they custom carved or pre-made?
I do make them myself if that's what you mean, also carving is just part of the job.
