• How it FEELS to play Spy in TF2

Nothing compares to the feeling you get when you manage to get behind a group and backstab chain them all before they can react. I like to play the class like it's like the predator mode from the Batman Arkham games; hide, observe, leap out and pick off a few guys, and get back into hiding before anybody has a chance to react. Watching the other team progressively ramp up the spy checks and get twitchy as they gradually lose their cool is one of the best parts of the experience.
my IQ was never high enough for the stock watch so I was always a cloak and dagger guy
my IQ was never high enough for the stock watch so I was always a cloak and dagger guy
I switch between the two a lot, sometimes accompanied by the L'etranger (because to me the damage reduction is very negligible). I like being able to sit still and watch/wait for prey, it's actually more fun than one might think.
I miss the old TF2 so much. The balance changes have sucked the fun dry out of the game for me, along with the new "competitive" community they have tried to cultivate for that has in large part replaced the once great community the game had. The thinning community and the unfun changes to the game are the real reason why I can't find myself returning to TF2, not the hats; if anything, the disgusting hatconomy is a minor issue at most. I remember the day the Spy update hit and the Dead Ringer was one of the funnest items in the game for me, turning the Spy, a class I had once thought boring, into one of the most enjoyable.
I played TF2 recently and wondered how did they think it was a good idea to make pyro even more mobile. They gave him a jetpack and it's harder to play spy because when one spy does good, the team swaps to all pyro and can still function because of the mobility.
I was super disappointed when they nerfed the dead ringer, honestly it was the turning point and I stopped playing shortly afterwards. The ability to refill the dead ringer turned spy from a sneaking subtlety class into a fast paced back-stabbing machine.
It is still doing what it was designed for, just less spammable now. Obvious and constant fake deaths from fall damage or a 3 damage pellet were a recurrent bad habit to go behind the enemy with literally full health and escape from every situation, and the item itself was easy to abuse in almost all maps. It was frustrating when you see the same spy decloak next to a ammo crate over and over just to do it again.
I can hardly even describe how proud I am of lazypurple. He goes above and beyond with his visual representations, especially in a market where many won't hesitate to do bare minimum by filling entire videos with nothing but gameplay. SFM integration has always been my favorite way to spice up TF2 content but lazy blows even my own standard in that out the water.

The presentation is great, except for the whole "my ugly tf2 OC loadout is narrating everything" shtick in some of his videos
Attacking nests changes completely when you find out that if they have the basic Sentry | Engi | Dispenser setup you can just stand behind the dispenser and get the sentry to target you. It'll shoot and rocket the engi, killing him, and the dispenser will block the bullets. That and sapping a teleporter entrance while standing on it. Most engis will wind up standing on their exit while wrenching it causing a tele-frag as soon as they knock the sapper off.
The first technique is not even necessary most of the time, because it's easily possible to backstab -> switch -> sap in the time it takes the sentry to rotate to aim at you. If you take notice of which direction it started rotating you can also sidestep in the opposite and gain a whole second or more of time.
The presentation is great, except for the whole "my ugly tf2 OC loadout is narrating everything" shtick in some of his videos
there are no tf2 videos that don't that it also drives the whole "you have these items/ this unusual ingame, thus you are imitating this person"
The presentation is great, except for the whole "my ugly tf2 OC loadout is narrating everything" shtick in some of his videos
I feel like it'd be better if it were actual animation rather than choppy frames, though I get that it'd take 3 times as long to do that and he probably doesn't want videos to be delayed any longer.

Soldier is the jack of all trades, useful in any situation, Pyro was only really useful in pubs or last point defense against ubers. Jungle Inferno added items to push Pyro into two catagories, the dragon's fury and jetpack for an offensive Pyro, and the default flamethrower and the gas passer for a defensive area denial Pyro. Also the jetpack takes up a slot that can be filled by the reliable damage and anti Pyro shotgun or the anti Sniper flare gun.

You can mostly mitigate it by aiming high but it definitely limits how you can use the jetpack
I'm amazed how much he was able to fool other players while being disguised as a scout, you know, the dead giveaway disguise. Considering how a disguised scout is way slower than a regular scout and unable to double jump :v:

The ones that match spies speed tend to get checked a lot more often.
Which is why I love pyro, just go around your own base and keep burning everything. Kills all the spies
Pretty infuriating when on the other end of that. Especially when there's more than one pyro that click-burn every pixel on the map. Might as well just switch classes after that, regardless of how good of a Spy you are.
Fyi spy got a speed buff a year and a half ago so he doesn't stand out quite as much as he once did when disguised as scout.

Very situational but when the situation does come up, very handy.
lol @ 7:38 the spy with the Hannah Barbara running sfx with the medic. Can I get a gif of that?

Now if only he showed what it's like to fight against a spy with the lovely backstab radius and hitreg TF2 has.
Now if only he showed what it's like to fight against a spy with the lovely backstab radius and hitreg TF2 has.
This being registered as a backstab is beyond me. [t]https://i.imgur.com/hv7jJr6.jpg[/t]
God bless facestabs

I don't really rely on disguises as much as I rely on being unseen, and Scout has the lowest profile of any class, meaning I can hide in more spaces more easily.
Here's a video showing off the backstab mechanics from sigsegv, kind of like the pannenkoek of TF2, though he reports bugs instead of doing speed runs.
This being registered as a backstab is beyond me. [t]https://i.imgur.com/hv7jJr6.jpg[/t]
Big hitboxes + lag. The medic probably turns around at the last second but latency causes this to not be shown until the medic has already been stabbed and is dead. Basically the spy just got lucky and the medic happened to turn at the right moment.
