i feel like 80's synthwave cyberpunk revival has been done to death at this point.
The genre is saturated with a lot of unoriginal folk but people like Carpenter Brut who actually do try to create their own sound are emerging more often.
90% of what you see on NewRetroWave youtube channel is prime example of the regurgitated stuff with maybe a few shiners every now and then.
Quite the opposite, IMO, its a long time coming and I feel there's still room for more.
You just don't see it because cyberpunk is a small genre. But oh man if you look at the cyberpunk indie game sections everyone uses the style

take a look at this shit, way overdone.
"Just paint it pink and black and call it Cyberpunk" should be a thing.
This track really reminded me of roller mobster.

That being said I FUCKING LOVE roller mobster so that's okay.
Is this a new kind of weaboo? Neo-weab?
Totally digging the tunes.

It already is, any video of 'cybergoths' dancing is enough to be that. :v:
Believe they said he's doing the whole thing. CB is a busy guy lately.
PLEASE TELL ME THEY RELEASE THE FULL OST.

The issue is, and it fucking pains me because it's the genre I champion the most, people are treating cyberpunk as just a visual aesthetic instead of an actual genre. The visual aspect is one small element, what truly defines cyberpunk it's its deeply embedded themes, atmoshpere and the dialogue it has with society past, present and future.

This video helps explain not only what helps to define the genre but also what inspired it.
I get a lot of people telling me that defining it in this way limits it and is akin to gatekeeping which isn't remotely the case. You need guidelines otherwise you don't have a genre at all just this twisted mess of ideas that don't link up or correlate and you end up with the Total Recall remake.

There are definitely traits to a genre that define how it should be like. I don't agree with all the points that the video makes out that a Cyberpunk piece must have but in general I think it shows a good understanding of what the genre is meant to be about.
I'm honestly fine if a game is Cyberpunk but the themes aren't explored that much but neon pink and black in my opinion looks bad on it's own. Drawing back to the topic on hand, Furi is a game that really requires clarity and a good art style so you can focus on what's going on but Pink/Black only works if the Pink is muted compared to black. Pink already is a very contrasting color and it's hard to look at.
The gameplay gives me a bit of a Ys feeling. Is the entire thing going to be a boss rush sort of thing, or will there be exploration and stuff?
The whole teleporting and shooting mechanic reminds me of Velocity X2
I'm reminded of Hyper Light Drifter
technotouhouninja more like
That's fucking sick, it's some kind of bullet hell fighter
The game had me sold, even if Carpenter Brut wasn't doing the music. It looks so fun, and with probably the best soundtrack since Jet Set Radio I'm sure the game is going to be fantastic.
