Media Player Classic.
Its simply the best, it can play everything, has no issues at all, is nicely controllable, portable, has 2 mb, also plays Videos in which you can adjust anything you want.
Its not one of them massive media players for which you need 1gb ram.
Its very light and easy to use, of course free, and you might get nostalgia since its inspiration was a non-shitty wmp 6.4
You can check wikipedia for more features of it.

Wow, clicking play is difficult.
It plays .flac perfectly for me, what version were you using? The portable one or the installed one?
The Installed one it older, so it could have some customization problems.
I recommend Clementine, it's light, the playlist organization it's one of the best.

Uhhhhhhhhhhh...I mean I didn't google the program or anything so I don't know if it DOES have a Windows version, but that's running on a Mac from what I can tell.

does it let you hide certain file types? Foobar2000 lets me hide mp3 so I don't have FLAC and mp3 versions of the same song appearing.

It looks absolutely the same on every OS
I prefer iTunes. For some reason Windows Media Player just confuses me, the interface that is.
