I know exactly where he is coming from. A few years ago when I was making Machinima for my channel, 1 particular show I made became pretty popular. And from then on whenever I uploaded anything different people would complain, thumb it down, and unsub. It's really not fair for the content creator who actually does it for the enjoyment of making videos and having variety.
Requests are an entirely different monster. I'd rather create content using a game I personally enjoy and love working with. If I was forced to do content for a game I didn't like then the fun wouldn't be there for me.

I like TB. He's a bit harsh or blunt with some things but that's what I like him for. He doesn't bullshit either and usually makes an educated opinion about the things he talks about. I like listening to his opinion on controversial video games topics such as Aliens: Colonial Marines or DayZ.
His "WTF is..." series is also informative for checking out new games. It helped me decide if I should of bought Jet Set Radio or Black Ops 2. (Both which I don't regret buying)

That thread is 5 years old. It's so old that it has a link to Digg.
I can see why he can seem pretentious but in my opinion he does have some influence over the things he talks about. It's undeniable that a lot of people care about his opinion.
TotalBiscuit seems like the guy everyone knows is right, but nobody wants him to be because he is such an asshole about it.

People in this thread do the exact thing he is referring to by posting how "not nice" he is.
There was this one really funny time where he did a video on some game and maaaarveled at some rock texture. In a comment I mentioned in passing I found it funny how impressed he was while I didn't think it looked all that great.
Man that guy got [b]defensive[/b] about this stupid rock texture. Told me to check out a higher video resolution, told me YouTube's compression ruined everything, told me to look up screenshots and make sure it's from a high end rig, etc. All while being ridiculously arrogant and passive-aggressive about the whole affair, not even mentioning me directly but saying something like "the nerve some people have to think they could judge, let alone criticize the graphical fidelity of a title based on a YouTube video rendered in <codec> while watching in 360p. Truly ridiculous."
At the end of the exchange I wrote something like "There, I did all that. Have I now finally earned the right to have an opinion different from yours? Very ridiculous indeed."
He seems like a chill guy around his buddies and fairly competent at condensing other news sources and maintaining a high video output, but easily collapses when talking/playing with devs/playing indie titles sent to him personally and he's just a sneering condescending dickhead when dealing with his community. There's teaching people a lesson in humility and then there's telling them they're just a number nobody cares about and they should cry some more delicious tears because you're the king.
Not to mention he's very selective when it comes to whether CynicalBrit is his persona or who he really is.

I like how you accuse him of trying to place himself on a pedestal above others and then immediately afterwards say that all of the people that like him and disagree with you are blind morons that believe whatever they're told.
The irony is astounding.
This really didn't need a 25 minute video. The key points were: letting one requests opens the gates for all requests, one persons opinion doesn't represent the entire audience, TB prefers creative control over requests. That could have been addressed neatly in 5 minutes.
Going on for 25 minutes and accusing anyone of making requests as "having deep seated issues" isn't going to do you favours. The thing is, it doesn't matter in the slightest if he's a dick.
TB makes youtube videos that you can watch for free, whenever you like. If you don't like it, there are thousands more on the same subject that you can watch. On the grand scheme, making frequent quality content is far more important than bending to the will of a few vocal youtube commenters.

The point of the video is so far from your head you wouldn't even understand it if I tried to explain it to you.
People perceive TB as a dick/cunt but at least TB is blunt in his opinions and he's honest about it instead of pussy footing around to pick up right words so people don't get offended by it.
Generally TB's opinions on games are exactly like mine (I say generally because there's been some circumstances where I disagree with him), is WTF videos are good to watch if you're planning on picking up a game.
But as others have said, he comes across as a cunt in most of his videos, as if his opinions are the only ones that matter.
Also, those feeling sympathy for famous YouTubers, don't. It's their career choice, they knew full well the consequences before hand.

His point is that he shouldn't have to go out of his way to prove to random people on the internet that hes a nice guy.

When he gets a request from quite alot of people, he does it and gets a fuckton of views because that's what the viewers want.

You would kill for 500 subs because your videos and standards might suck, but if you are TB's caliber you would not care either. Just deal with a fact every video maker has own set list of things they follow, and please don't compare him to critical it's not the same magnitude, critical makes very short videos in comparison to TB, critical's quality is lower, don't take this as a bad thing I do enjoy some of critical videos.

I've been silently looking at this thread trying to work out how to put my opinion into words, and I think you just did it for me.
This is literally exactly how I feel on the matter. TB does make good videos, but it really doesn't mean that he should be a cunt to some of his countless fans.
