You guys really care this much about youtube videos ?
What's wrong about having a strong opinion on something. If some dude cares a lot about YouTube I don't see what's so wrong. It's his time devoted to it, not mine.
As far as he's not acting like a dick, where's the problem? I mean, acting friendly or nice surely adds positively to a person, but if it's supposed to be forced then there's really no need for it.
If only he pretended to be polite he would've avoided all the shit. He seems to miss the point every single time that people don't dislike him because he doesn't take requests, but because he's rude about it. All he'd need to do is have a polite "Sorry, but I don't take requests", or simply ignore anyone requesting anything. It's uncommon to expect a response from any 'famous' person, so they would be less disappointed. Insulting your viewers is bad no matter how you look at it, and somehow he doesn't seem to understand this.
He does do that; the only times he gets somewhat rude about it is when somebody responds to his response and states that he doesn't care about his fans.
I don't see why anyone would ever bother with the youtube comments section.
Does anyone remember his Black Mesa video where he just spent the whole time saying Half Life one was better and complaining it wasn't the exact same game?
Does anyone remember his Black Mesa video where he just spent the whole time saying Half Life one was better and complaining it wasn't the exact same game?
Oh no he expressed his opinion in a video grab your torch and pitchfork
Ya gotta admit though, TB is a terrible at handling people. Heck, if you're going to tell someone that you don't do requests you could at least do it like this: "I'm sorry, but I'm not taking requests, thank you for mentioning this however, perhaps someone else might be interested in doing a first impressions of it." It does the same thing, but its much kinder and pretty much tells people to look elsewhere if they wish to get someone to do something. He is an infotainer, its his job to tell people about games and news, not buddy up with everyone.
"This video has been removed as a violation of Youtube's policy prohibiting content designed to harass bully or threaten" Say what. That looked like it was gonna be fairly amusing too.
What the fuck? It's Genna's channel. She's his wife. She's also his agent sort of. Youtube, you stupid.
I never watch this guy's videos but as an outside viewer looking in to this, he appears to be a massive idiot.
I never watch this guy's videos but as an outside viewer looking in to this, he appears to be a massive idiot.
That's unfair. To keep it simple, I find that he can be harsh, but often he's speaking the truth or his own blunt and honest opinion, and I'm surprised to say many people don't actually do so. And as he mentions in the OP's video, he can't agree with every hapless soul that's out there without quite literally sucking up to that specific user. I have great amounts of respect for him, and I've been watching his videos since late 2010. He just does what he wants, rather than what his overwhelming fanbase tells him to do so. Basically, you're not actually looking into it properly and are just throwing around words without real thought.
He's always been an asshole who specializes in vocalizing his opinion. The only surprising thing is it gets pulled up again and again and again.
Garry for example. The excuse of "he's Garry he bans who he wants" wouldn't fly back in 2007. But he's fucking rich now so who gives a shit? It's his forum.
I thought 2007 was the age of the rules pages where mods banned based on the rules of the forum? I'm pretty sure there was a rule about Garry being able to ban whoever he wanted because it was his forum, which was also reinforced by the "Rules are not absolute rule". Unless i'm wrong, smartness system auto banned them.
Critical makes short videos, they are ALWAYS good, he has never said a bad thing to anyone on his fan base and he gives (i think all) his earnings to charity. I think TB has gotten too big and so he can get away with being a nob to his fanbase now since like he said "You've just been replaced" Also TB's videos don't have a specific genre, more just like, gameplay videos, not humerous, etc... I've watched 1 or 2 of his Dota 2 videos recently and I know he's meant to be bad at it but, who wants to watch a bad player give bad commentary on Dota 2.
I watch his Dota 2 videos because I find them interesting. I haven't played Dota 2 and those videos have got me wanting to try it out. He isn't terrible about the game and the videos actually give some insight on how the game is played. His commentary isn't that bad, he analyses what happens when he dies and gives an explanation of what went wrong. On top of that he also explains a lot of points that come up in the games. He also made a rule that he would only use the suggested items and that helps a lot of newer players understand what he is buying. The Dota 2 videos give a general overview of a character through the perspective of someone with some knowledge but is still learning. I watched his I Suck at Starcraft 2 videos before I even got SC2 and I went into the game knowing the basics of the game. Watching someone bad at the game who can still provide knowledge through commentary and analysis can actually teach the basics of a game.
TB reuploaded it:

"i don't do requests" is perfectly fine. it isn't hostile, it isn't rude, it's perfectly neutral and acceptable. no one should be held to some incredibly high standard of formality and virtual dick-sucking because otherwise they might be considered "mean". in fact i think this video goes above and beyond because he finally articulates why he doesn't take requests. it would have been perfectly acceptable not to disclose any why's.
I never watch this guy's videos but as an outside viewer looking in to this, he appears to be a massive idiot.
TB's not an idiot, he has a law degree and an IQ of 155!!!!
I am shuttering at how quickly people in this thread is coming to the defense of him being such a dick, I don't give a fuck if he does not take requests or anything like that, it's his MO. But when you explode on someone for wondering why or expressing how they feel on the matter then you are over reacting. Not to mention the smarter thing for him to do would've just been to ignore the comment out right, why bring more attention to requests if you don't do them anyway. All he is doing is stirring up drama and yelling over the internet, if he had went off on a fan like this IRL(might I add his average viewer age probably isn't all that old) people would react completely differently. Just because it's the internet does not mean he gets a free pass at being uncivil.
Sounds like you get really angry when people are mean on the internet. Which means you probably don't use the internet that much.
Sounds like you get really angry when people are mean on the internet. Which means you probably don't use the internet that much.
I get mad when people are unjustly dicks, also is not going on the internet much an insult now? That's sort of shocking...

This is why I don't subscribe to him. It's fine that he doesn't do requests, but dont start throwing insults at your fans. Ignoring them would be a better option. Summary: I don't like TB, not that he cares, I'm just a "number" to him :'(
he comes across as a dick but it's true people think that by subscribing to a channel they are entitled to whatever videos they want to see
It's not even that though. His livelihood is entirely based on viewer subscription and sponsors. One wrong word to a Sponsor's kid and he's done. There are nice ways of being a dick, for example: "I'm sorry, but I don't take requests. We'll see what the future brings." Or just flat out say he doesn't like the game and won't do videos on it. Treating people like numbers isn't the right way to do things, but you don't have to necessarily treat them like friends.
this guy needs some PR coaching and maybe an aspergers test
he has a really good point though. his channel isn't about promoting games that his fans like, it's about informing his viewers on new releases and what they're like and what they're about. he says he played antichamber even though he's not into that genre, because he did it for his fans because he knew they'd like to see what it was. it was a new game that came out that a lot of people didn't know enough about to want to buy, and he positively affected its sales. he doesn't make content that he wants because he's selfish, he just doesn't make stupid content that his fans want that doesn't make any sense, like minecraft videos, because enough people know about the game at this point and his channel isn't about taking requests, it's about being informative.

When you're that famous, you listen to your fans. You don't just ignore them and claim they're all stupid and worthless because you'll have 800 more in a day. It doesn't mean he has to make a video for every single suggestion made, but if a ton of people are requesting for one thing, then he should give it a try. It's his damn job.

And what people in the comment section ask for is not a good representation of what all his subs want, the best thing he can do is ignore the vocal minority in the comments.
this guy needs some PR coaching and maybe an aspergers test
PR coaching? He's constantly booked for covering game releases and tournaments. People want him. People enjoy his personality specifically.
