AS I've said before I think there will be time travel involved at some point because they keep mentioning "rewriting history", in the E3 trailer and the official website "Only you can stop Deathshead. Only you can rewrite history." Maybe the game is going to end with you going back in time and preventing this from happening.
as long as it doesn't have that bullshit crystal thing like the 2009 wolfenstein. goddamn was it a pain in the dick to juggle all those ~aBiLiTiEs~ while getting my ass raped violently by those blue skeleton nazi FUCKS.
they've already released a gameplay demo a long time ago.
That trailer makes me nervous about the design direction of the game. That parking lot bit in the beginning. Putting myself in the position of the player, I'm seeing this open area before me, the car is noticed, nazis get alarmed, shit is about to go down, I'm all ready and set to charge across the parking lot and blow away nazis as I advance towards my goal, the big entrance, guns blazing. Instead, control is taken away from me to show me the pretty explosion. That kind of breaks my flow, I'd rather pop those dudes in the head while they are confused but whatever. Then, they take control away again to establish the pretty statue toppling animation and a change of the environment. Now, these days, flashy scripted events like that are really nothing special anymore. There is no need to put my head in a vise and force me in just the right position every time to make sure I don't miss the fancy stuff. By the end of the game I'll have missed no detail and I don't want to replay because I've seen everything and there are no cool scripts that I may have missed. But changing the environment is the choice that worries me the most. That parking lot was perfectly fine as an introductory shootout location. Open area, lots of cover, nice to get warmed up. But instead they turn it into a linear maze where more stupid scripts happen to show off new enemies and then I'm given a few slowly moving targets that don't really fight back so the learning curve won't be too steep for whoever the fuck hasn't figured out which end of the controller to hold. Why even bother with interaction at this point. All this sequence serves is to impress me with fancy scripts that just get in the way of my initial desire to shoot nazis in the face. I go into the level with the desire to shoot the nazis at the other end of the parking lot in the face and maybe look at the environment to notice cool details and I get a linear tunnel maze that shows me the developers ability to make cool cinematic sequences. You know, I was really more interested in their ability of letting me shoot nazis in the face already. Because by the time you DO get to shoot nazis in the face, I lost all my momentum and grumblingly adapted to the games own indecisive pace that is being forced on me. Please, just give me a pretty parking lot with nazis on the other end that I can run to and shoot at. All the fancy stuff can happen at the same time. Maybe I'll look at it, maybe I'll do that in a future playthrough. Maybe I'll even reload to appreciate all the stuff going on. But I'll never replay or reload the scene as they made it. Also, that robot bit has to be a joke. A turret like enemy that I peek at from behind a rock and shoot at whenever I can during it's 'shoot-pause-shoot-pause-shoot-pause' pattern? This is not good game design. This could be a blockbuster action-something or whatever but there is too much that gets in the way of the moment when my pistol pops up in first person and the moment when my pistol kills the two guards on the other side of the parking lot. Now, this was just one little part of a level. I hope this kind of design is not what this game is based around but I won't bother getting my hopes up. After all, this serves to give a general impression of what we can expect of the game and modern shooters tend to follow a very strict design guideline.
This looks a bit better.
The Health and Armour system reminds me of Quake/Unreal with Boosts that when you go over they slowly decrease over time.
The gameplay looks good and challenging. This puts me now on more to the side of sold for now.
What, no, RTCW and 2009 were both squeals to Wolf3D They show events (a bit modified) from Wolf3D/Spear of Destiny and RTCW in a recap video for 2009.
nope, wolf3d/spear of destiny are its own games, and rtcw rebooted the series into the timeline that we're in right now.
nope, wolf3d/spear of destiny are its own games, and rtcw rebooted the series into the timeline that we're in right now.
Those animated "graphic novels" were made in an attempt to tie all 4 games together.
it's a recap of the entire franchise, doesn't mean they're all in the same continuity.
Wolf 3D, Spear of Destiny and RtcW all are in the same canon, as far as I know. SoD was a prequel to Wolf 3D and RtcW was sort of a sequel
nope, rtcw was a reboot wolf3d and its prequel spear of destiny rtcw, wolf09, wolf new order
Yeah, I remember RtCW being a reboot because a lot of people were angry it didn't end with Mecha Hitler.
If all you want is a game where you run around singlehandedly killing tons of nazis with cool guns, then knock yourself out.
Sounds good to me!
It's good to see more SP oriented games. I'm tired of the stupid obsession with MP games and leveling up and unlocking guns and gun camos and shit like that.
Honestly, looking back at that IGN demo of The New Order, it looks like a tutorial level, which would explain why it looks so scripted. I think that's pretty forgivable, especially considering what the other gameplay video shows.
I have faith in the ex-Starbreeze guys. The Darkness and Riddick were awesome, I'm sure this will be too
I have faith in the ex-Starbreeze guys. The Darkness and Riddick were awesome, I'm sure this will be too
Ditto that, playing through Butcher Bay at the moment and it's a great game

That or it's one of those cases of a showroom demo level, but in any case, I really want to preorder this yet understand that might be a stupid usage of money all the while.
After watching the gameplay videos I'm super hyped. I'm glad they didn't go with the super edgy ultra realism that literally every single FPS is trying to do.
B.J. said something about space in the gameplay video. I hope the finale of the game is in space.
Watching the gameplay videos have really put me off this game now - it's mostly scripted sequences, but when there is gunplay either the guy playing (Quakecon footage) was trying to make it look good for modern audiences or it's very cover-based. There's been footage of gameplay with the dual-wielding primary weapons while you run around blasting Nazis and that looks fun, but I have the feeling that those moments will be few and far between.

I hope this shits good, like really good, they gotta bring back these more fun and crazy shooters, especially as triple A. I really miss these type of shooters, the just full on action over the top fun shit. Sick of just shooting generic shit with boring modern guns. I want explosions and balls to the wall lightning guns Is the latest wolfenstein, I think it was 2009/2010 any good? Im looking for a fun crazy shooter.
Is the latest wolfenstein, I think it was 2009/2010 any good? Im looking for a fun crazy shooter.
It is fun, you might want to get the Retrostein mod (check moddb) to make it a little closer to RTCW though.
Hands on Video preview by Rev3 Games
Pretty good, but I cannot agree with what he says about the Nazi doctor stuff.I know it was just a personal thing for him but I think it can be a good thing when using something like that and making it some weird mix of campy fun and the really dark realistic shit surrounding it. Inglorious bastards did a great job mixing in humor and real dark shit and it worked wonderfully and created something really unique. Hans was this character who you fucking hated because of all the awful shit he did, hell the opening to inglorious bastard is incredible serious and dark without a single drop of comedy in it. But no matter how much you hated him, you loved seeing him. Plus I think its good to poke fun at history no matter how awful it was.
I think this game brings back an element most newer FPS have forgotten - the fact that being low on health makes shit tense. Going around with 5hp looking for just the smallest health pack while being attacked by zombies is great, especially when you sometimes have to assess whether the risk is larger than the potential benefit. Most newer games don't do this, and I honestly think it's a bit sad. Not saying every game has to do it (it doesn't fit with every genre), but it's almost completely gone. I'll reserve my judgement of this game till when it's out, though. Looks kinda "might be good, might be total shit".

Also based off gameplay videos it looks pretty good.
