Wouldn't an SMG using 9MM ammo really be the best? At least in the USA, everyone owns some form of handgun there, so finding 9MM ammo wouldn't be too hard
The problem with an SMG is that it's designed to be used clearing out buildings and such. If you're going to use it for simply just that, then it works, but if you need to do some medium range sniping, then an AR of some kind would be your best choice.

it doesn't have to be sources, I'm just saying making a statement like that is irrelevant to the discussion and not helping.
It's very relevant. You're going to drop if you get lit up with .22. It definitely doesn't have stopping power, but it can still take someone down.

anyone will die if you shoot enough bullets at them.
the question is whether .22 has the stopping power to reliably stop the average human with a single headshot, and I think the answer to that is no.
Yeah, but good luck finding caches of 7.62 lying around, especially in the united states.
I have five hundred 7.62x39 rounds in a ammo box is laying under my bed. Your point is?

Any bullet that penetrates the skull will stop someone. Of course it isn't like higher caliber ammunition, but something going into brain matter would stop an average human being.
