It is actually. They have one or two of these stands during La Feria in Marin, Mexico (Yearly Town Fair). The name they gave it was espiripapa (spiral potato) which is just a potato cut in a spiral and on a stick, fried. The fresher the better. Where they originated, I have no idea.

Depending on who serves them, they can go with a variety of extras such as lemon, salt, ketchup, mayo, etc.

It is basically, french fries on a stick, but in a fancier and more enjoyable fashion.
