Immediately reminded me of this. edit posted this before I saw the second video. doesn't make this any less funny.
Quoting this because the fact is that REAL BANANAS are not edible. The banana which that silly man possesses has been cultivated and modified through selective breeding over thousands of years BY HUMANS.
These people need to know that reading a single article in the newspaper that refers to physicists does not make you an expert in physics...
Reduce it by one... in a billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion and we are all killed with fire.
This video was really incomprehensive.
billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion
Well, it's still better than "tides can't be explained"
I hate how retards like him and so many others ruin the name of Christians.
I don't think he makes Christians look retarded, in fact he seems like a pretty intelligent guy with an interest in physics. I think he's fundamentally wrong, but that doesn't mean I think he's stupid.
What I like most about these videos is how excited they always act when they start talking about how they proved god.
1. Generate a random number from between 1 and 1 billion. 2. There was a 1 in 1 billion chance of getting the number you just got, but still you got it! Praise the lord!
billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion billion
Million billionth Trillion :v:
He's saying gravity is a set force.. lol...
First people thought that the place they lived in (island, jungle, whatever) was the only place that existed. We moved on and they thought that their continent was the only place that existed. We moved on, they thought that the planet was the only place and that everything goes around our planet. Then they found out that our planet isn't special either. Nor is our star. Or our solar system. Or our galaxy. Or the group of galaxies that our's belongs to. I don't see why our universe would be either. It's not that the "rules" of the universe are what they are because of us. We are what we are because of those rules.
As a man who is studying physics at the moment i'll have to admit: The huge amount of bullshit and wrong stuff he was talking about gave me headaches... He doesn't seem to be understanding anything - not even the most simple things! What the christ...! xD
Something like beauty, seems more god-like.
This is better / worse. "How'd it get there?"
Who poot moon there?
I don't think that the fact that this universe has life is proof of God, it's more a suggestion that we're part of a multiverse or a chain of universes which have creating and destroying themselves. Which are both popular physics theories right now, even if they are almost impossible to test for. I hate when people try to simplify shit like God. If there IS a creator, people shouldn't pretend they completely understand what it wants, how it affects us, etc. And then there are people who believe the Bible was written by Jesus.. oh lawd.
If there's one thing I've learn in my rather short lifetime, it's that due to the vast length of time that the cosmos has existed, if any of the fundamental factors were any different, then surely (at least by chance in that extremely long time) life would've occurred at least once somewhere out there. Who knows, maybe we're the only place in the universe that currently has life, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been life long before us and that life won't exist long after us. I don't care if it's all a crazy coincidence, I just get on with life, smoke me some reefer, have fun and look at awesome pictures of nebulae. [editline]11th February 2011[/editline] PS: "Aliens" do exist and are out there, we're just not able to reach them unless we discover a way to traverse space in ways other than our current forms of travel.
You can't argue that god exists just because the laws of physics are delicately balanced in just the right way. That doesn't "defy" chance, it's just one of those things that just is. First of all I don't think there's any way to prove what the "chance" was that physics are the way they are, and even if it was a conceivable notion... so something rare happened. Gee, it's not like things don't just happen based on a series of circumstances. I think nothing rare ever happening would be more grounds for proof of god than the other way around. (not that I think either argument would be substantial) What I mean is, "chance" is kind of a human concept. The guy uses the word "chance" like he can perceive what could have been in place of the laws of physics, as if there's some solid likelihood to it. I guess it's not unlike religious enthusiasts to take every rare happenstance and say it was either the work of god or the devil. Crazy shit happens. The universe is here, and it works, because it can.
This is better / worse. "How'd it get there?"
The idiocy - it hurts! Hawkings?
acting like all religious people are foxnews-esque dumbasses
But they are.. :frog:
this man talking about it being on a "razor's edge" reminded me of this; [img_thumb]http://www.jesusneedsnewpr.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/dbdef0d5-7237-4422-b82a-b876ad2e915f.jpg[/img_thumb]
More please. Oh just noticed 17 people liked it. It's nice the sciency people are more than the religiousy people now.
this man talking about it being on a "razor's edge" reminded me of this; [img_thumb]http://www.jesusneedsnewpr.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/dbdef0d5-7237-4422-b82a-b876ad2e915f.jpg[/img_thumb]
Gold man. Her reply was icing on the cake. To all his analogies like "if there were a crapload of dimes and only one was painted red, the chance of whatever is if you were to pick that red one blind folded" you could counter with "what if you had a crapload of tries?". You'll eventually land on a 1/(trillion^2) chance if you have infinite tries right? I mean obviously consciousness is a result of life so consciousness would only be present in the universe who's laws allow it. All the other universes failed to create life or sustain themselves. This is simply a conjecture you could make about what he said and is no way proven. That argument suggests many other things than just God. The thing about religion is this. Most, if not all, people at some point in their lives have the innate motive to categorize rare occurrences like structure and order as something only a human or something intelligent could devise. When you're young and learning about the world, you see all these man made things which people, like you, have created. Therefore, when you're raised by people that constantly are explaining things in terms of a God that is of a higher intelligence and the creator of everything including man, everything makes sense. We all seek to resolve ambiguity in our minds and it comforts us, as in removes stress, to do so. Its hard to accept, especially with no direct proof, that there is no God that has been proven to exist. That the people you have known all your life, your parents, their parents, and so on, are mistaken and wrong. Its hard for anyone in that situation and can be very stressful. For some people, the stress is too great and they don't want to disbelieve. For others, the need for reason and understanding the wholeness of things eventually works against their belief in a creator. Your ambiguities can finally be put to ease in the face of modern theories of life's origin and you come to some level of peace in your mind. Its hard for me to say I fully don't believe in God having been raised as I was and being fairly open-minded. If there is a God, I don't believe that God is as relevant to us as the bible says and I think the bible is more a tool developed by man to exploit man on their weaknesses and to control rather than a gift from the creator.
Just something to laugh at.. although I had to stop.. just look, the name of the video is stupid enough. Lol, this too:
What's so funny about this?
It's just about the Antropic Principle. No "creator" needed. If you simply assume that there are multiple (up to infinite) amounts of universes (modern theories suggest this), we observe the universe fine-tuned as it is because we couldn't live in one which isn't that fine-tuned.
Oh my god stop saying "billion billion billion billion billion". It does not emphasise your point after the 12th time.
This doesn't make me laugh, it doesn't make me rage, it makes me sad :(
This guy needs to learn basic physics... If gravity was slightly different (i.e. the gravitational constant was changed) even if WE couldn't survive on planet earth for some obscure reason, then another planet with a slightly different size would have the same gravitational force as our Earth does now... Why is it always the religious nutjobs that try to prove the existence of god with little to no knowledge of Physics?
Don't feel angry. Feel pity.
I think his point with the 'set values' for creating a universe stable enough for life is pretty much him taking his limited knowledge of the field and then coming straight to a conclusion. Imagine you go and buy a lottery ticket. It just so happens that you win. Does this mean that it was rigged in your favour? No, all it shows is that you've been lucky enough to match all the numbers up.
