I can't see this new Pennywise being as terrifying as Tim Curry's Pennywise, at least not in the same way, simple because he doesn't look like he's supposed to be a "funny" clown. He looks like he's built to just be creepy and nothing else.
That being said, Stephen King himself said they did a good job with this new movie, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. I look forward to it.

He's supposed to look more funny than scary. He's supposed to be friendly and fun, and to a kid (who doesn't have a clown phobia), a clown is the best person to fit the bill. The whole point is that he doesn't LOOK like a monster on the surface, but he lures people with things they like.

Yeah, that's what made Pennywise so terrifying, at least to me. He wasn't menacing to most people. He was just a goofy clown. He even acted goofy.

It's obvious this new movie is taking a very different, much more horror-centric approach. You can tell with how the drain scene in the new movie has a jumpscare, while the old drain scene isn't anything like that.
Just re-watching this scene makes me want to watch the miniseries again :v:

I love the book a lot save for the ending, but it's such a classic horror title it's worth checking out i'd say.

Yeah, there's a orgy with the kids. I honestly didn't even remember it until someone brought it up a while back, seeing that it's been nearly ten years since I've read IT. Other than that, it's a pretty solid read

Evil Dead 1 has some of the most creative camera work and practical effects I've ever seen in a low(er) budget film. That scene where Ash sticks his hand in the mirror and it's water? Bruce Campbell was just lying down on a plank and reaching into a bucket of water that was put into a hole in the floor, and it's shot [I]perfectly[/I], you don't even realize it.

I actually really like how this looks so far. While Pennywise's design maybe doesn't fit the original motif of being friendly with horror underneath, I think his appearance suits him very well with how the film looks.
Plus I think Tim Curry's version is like, so signature. If they tried copying it you would only think of it as the inferior Tim Curry, rather than something that is unique on its own.
Yeah the sex part in the book is weird (I get the message of love instead of being sex just for the sake of it, but it's still something really unsettling about that).
I also generally dislike how Stephen King ends his stories, there's never been an ending in one of his books that left me satisfied. Kubrick's ending for The Shining was for the better.
Mr. Mercedes was the last King book i've read, it bored me to death and i've forced myself in order to finish it, i've quite enjoyed Doctor Sleep instead, but it was nothing spectacular.
