:siren:Swine flu has hit the UK:siren: 2 people from falkirk have contracted the disease, but let's keep it in proportion, the risk is still minimal. Source
Yeah, that has been confirmed around 3 hours ago. But good source.
I'm mildly concerned that you're taking pediatricians (who specialise in child care rather than the epidemiology and virulence of infectious disease) and sci fi experts (?) as credible sources on this.
What? How is a pediatrician not a credible source? Besides super-specialised doctors in the field of studying epicemics or whatever, theyre probably one of the best people to ask. A pediatrician with alot of experience with kids (and diseases spread the fastest with kids) is likely to have a very good idea of how the virus is going to spread. And pediatricians are actual doctors, not just some sort of social worker as you seem to think, they know as much about viruses and such as you would expect any other doctor to know, which is quite alot.
sitting in your mothers basement browsing facepunch is really going to get you there.
You're assuming two times - 1. I'm in my mother's basement 2. I have an unproductive life ~ Don't get angry at the world just because you're a balding fat doughboy who hasn't done anything in life. Let the rest of us pursue our goals, you can stay on your computer and do what you want. Just keep your rage in check.
Yet another mass media scare I think. They're always quick to refer to it as "deadly" but then about 30 minutes later mention that it's only killed people in Mexico, and it's treatable.
I think this a little different from Pandemic II okay?
Oh really? Tell that to the CDC.

For anyone confused about the 'Pandemic alert scale' We are currently at 4. More detail here: http://www.who.int/csr/disease/avian_influenza/phase/en/index.html Hezzy, you may wan't to add this to the OP
I think this a little different from Pandemic II okay?
Well, if you think about it, it really isn't different all.
Oh really? Tell that to the CDC.
Ha ha, congratulations for being the 1000th shitty Pandemic II joke.
Well, if you think about it, it really isn't different all.
Except from the fact that, it isn't real? Or that you can't click buttons and add symptoms it has to mutate? But I'm sure you're going to reply with "It has diseases" yeah, so did 24, but it's still nothing like that is it?
I'm confused. Ebola is a deadly virus, it has a 90% fatality rate, yet this thing suddenly spreads and kills people in mexico, who have a terrible hygiene and even worse health service and everyones scared. Infact why am I scared?
no i just like making people feel bad about themselves
Well you succeeded *cry*
I guess I should go to Madagascar
Ha ha, congratulations for being the 1000th shitty Pandemic II joke.
Haha, congratulations for being the 1000th person to point out a pandemic joke. Without you, we wouldn't be able to find them.
How is it actually killing people? Is it the fact it's a flu and heats up your body to kill the virus, yet the virus doesn't die and your body kills itself?
What? How is a pediatrician not a credible source? Paediatricians are incredibly knowledgeable people, and of course they know how viruses spread and whatnot. But it's not there specialty, and while they're an incredibly useful and reliable source, they shan't know as much as someone who's trained in identifying what has the potenital to become an epidemic and what doesn't, along with all the statistical data to go with it. A Paediatrician won't have access to samples of the virus, in depth case by case analysis and a team of statisticians. It just struck me as strange that the poster would go for paediatricians specifically, rather than just "doctors", implying they somehow would know more about the case.
Kind of ironic, the guys in scottland are pretty much safe as they got it first and got individual treatment and are recovering fast and good.
How is it actually killing people? Is it the fact it's a flu and heats up your body to kill the virus, yet the virus doesn't die and your body kills itself?
Your body heats up to stop the virus from reproducing. It isn't killed.
It's only dangerous because we aren't resistant to it yet. It's like the indians who weren't resistant to have the "flu" And unless we will be invaded by a race with better weapons I don't think we will all die.
Your body heats up to stop the virus from reproducing. It isn't killed.
Thought so.
How is it actually killing people? Is it the fact it's a flu and heats up your body to kill the virus, yet the virus doesn't die and your body kills itself?
Nope, the virus weakens the immune system of your body and another disease, like pneumonia, will kill you.
Ah. Great 2 different stories, that's brilliant.
Better than Ebola and Rabies :p
I hope this becomes a crisis and I get laid with a girl who doesn't want to die a virgin. Then I hope she get's it and dies.
Your body heats up to stop the virus from reproducing. It isn't killed.
Elaborate.

Never bloody washing their hand and flicking snot at each other or whatever kids do nowadays.
Ah. Great 2 different stories, that's brilliant.
No, those are the same stories. The virus can only work at body temperature, so your body heatens up to kill as many viruses as possible. The virus on the other side tries to spread through your body as fast as possible, and disabeling your immune system. If the virus succeds you are open for any type of virus, bacteria or any other shit flying around.
It's only dangerous because we aren't resistant to it yet. Also, no virus can fully kill the human race. An airborne, waterborne, form of zaire will possibly decimate the population (1/10 gone [you learned the definition of decimation today]). The human survivors either will not have been exposed to it, or will have an immunity.
Also, the flu's a virus, so as far as I know, it doesn't create any toxins, it's just causes your cells to die.
Ah. Great 2 different stories, that's brilliant.
My story was better.
But I'm sure you're going to reply with "It has diseases"
Yup. Oh wait, I didn't. "It has diseases"
