I got some numbers from the WHO
Land: number of confirmed cases (number of confirmed deaths)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mexiko: 26(7)
USA: 40 (0)
Canada: 6(0)
Spain: 2(0)
New Zeeland: 3(0)
United Kingdom: 2(0)
Israel: 2(0)
-------------------------------
Overall: 81(7)
Mortality rate right now: 8.64%
So even if you get the swine flu, you have a chance of over 90% of surviving it. Now, calm down.
When someone posts "TWO PEOPLE HAVE JUST DIED IN CALIFORNIA" it's quite difficult to not be scared.
It's time for me to get a gasmask. Seriously. It'd be cool to have it even if it isn't such a big deal. :D

sorry but gasmasks don't look cool you just look like some nerd who is obsessed with stalker but i guess it might be useful if this does actually become a pandemic
And numbers don't mean shit. It might as well be you who gets infected and dies.
Is this a virus? Because that would seriously suck.
I think this is going to get worse.
Home from school today with cough, sore throat, sneezing, and fatigue. I hope it doesn't go much farther than that.

I know, but guess what? Every second 3 people die around the world. And around 5 are born every second.
Feel better now?
Guys, this isn't even that mortal, mostly old people and people from 3rd world countries will die from this.
How many infected in the uk so far?

Haha. Your logic is incorrect.
sorry but gasmasks don't look cool you just look like some nerd who is obsessed with stalker but i guess it might be useful if this does actually become a pandemic
Because stalker is the only game with gasmasks.. I bet you'll think they look cool once everyone around you is infected and is sneezing/coughing at you :D
Seriously though, they look cool if put together with the right clothing.

8.64%?!?!? In terms of 'flu, that's really bad. Spanish Flu was 2.5%, and it killed more people than World War One! D:
Ok, it's early days - over time, the percentage could drop considerable due to non fatal infections, but still...
Good thing i have 4 gas masks in my room.

That's actually a bit worrying..

Yes, I think it will drop. And, if you paid attention, you'll see that so far only people in mexico died. And I bet a lot of those were first case victims.
I've never heard of the spanish flu.. I've heard about black death though.

Most mortality rates peak when it starts happening, fairly logically as there's barely a group of people for it to be measured against.

Here it is, plain and simple. The numbers are still low, so mortality rate is high. Once the number of cases rise, the mortality rate will lower. Watch.
also apparently the disease is easy to treat it just spreads very quickly and can be fatal if left untreated

Give it a little time.
also apparently the disease is easy to treat it just spreads very quickly and can be fatal if left untreated
Unless it becomes resistant. Which likely, especially if it comes back a second time.
I hope that we can get a vaccine out before a second wave. If we can't, we may be royally fucked.
Unless it becomes resistant. Which likely, especially if it comes back a second time.
That's why our stock of mostly useless antivirals is being held back for now.
lol guys the one in England is not as bad as the one in mexico.
Still not worried :350:
*wears a sombrero*.
That's why our stock of mostly useless antivirals is being held back for now.
I think you're mixing something up here. What is held back at the moment are antibiotics and not antivirals.
Antibiotics help against bacteria, which can get resistent against antibiotics by sharing resitant genes (simplified).
Antivirals on the other side need to be developed from virus to virus, because a virus is "stupid" and doesn't
share resitant genes. They mutate though.
And an antiviral never kills a virus it only slows down the development of said. The only thing that can fight
a virus is the animal (human in our case) immune system.
