I think you're mixing something up here. What is held back at the moment are antibiotics and not antivirals. Antibiotics help against bacteria, which can get resistent agains antibiotics by sharing resitant genes (simplified). Antivirals on the other side need to be developed from virus to virus, because a virus is "stupid" and doesn't share resitant genes. They mutate though. And an antiviral never kills a virus it only slows down the development of said. The only thing that can fight a virus is the animal (human in our case) immune system.
:eng101:
I hope that we can get a vaccine out before a second wave. If we can't, we may be royally fucked.
I doubt it, it doesn't show much for concern as of yet. I mean in England.

In the end, as with any virus, all we can do is treat the symptoms. I doubt immune suppressors would do anything for the Cytokine Storms, and would likely be detrimental to the actual recovery of the patient. Only treating the fever, constant hydration(IV?) and other standard flu treatment seems to be the only useful treatment against this bug. tl;dr- Need moar Tamiflu and Ibuprofen.
I've been feeling like shit lately.
I've been feeling like shit lately.
Then I can say with 100% certainty that you have the swine flu and are going to die :v:
...Why yes, isn't that what I just said?
Yeah. Kinda. I just wanted to say something as a complimentary sign of agreement and restatement :frown:.
Ok, I leave it uncommented next time :v:
Then I can say with 100% certainty that you have the swine flu and are going to die :v:
Hey, It's probably just allergies or a slight cold, but I wouldn't mind becoming the 2nd person in Ohio to have Swine Flu.
I doubt it, it doesn't show much for concern as of yet. I mean in England.
True. 3rd world nations will be hit hardest.
Hey, It's probably just allergies or a slight cold, but I wouldn't mind becoming the 2nd person in Ohio to have Swine Flu.
Oh yeah, definitely awesome. As long as you have no preexisting medical conditions(respiratory in particular) and a smart immune system.
True. 3rd world nations will be hit hardest.
Maybe in fatalities, but the only thing that gives us 1st and 2nd world nations above them in survival means is that we have access to a readily available supply of antivirals and other medical supplies.
There could be cases in Wisconsin. And rumors are going about that someone in our school is in the hospital with either Mono, or Swine Flu.
True. 3rd world nations will be hit hardest.
Yeah, and from what I have heard we have been stockpiling some anti-biotics and such due to the bird flu scare?

Guys, 8% mortality rate doesn't mean you have a 90% chance of surviving. It mean out of 100 people that you know, about eight would die (that's if they all became sick). Your survivability depends on circumstances, we're not all built the same.
Swine flu sucks, because if you get it (dunno how likely it will be) with the recession... well e.g "Oh shit! I have swine flu! I need medicine!" Goes to buy medicine. "Oh shit! I have money! I need a job!" Goes to get job "Oh shit! I'm too sick to work!" Dies.

Spanish Flu had a low mortality rate, yet it killed around 50 million people.
Update me anyone?
Update me anyone?
81 confirmed cases, 7 confirmed deaths, around 2100 cases unconfirmed, 153 unconfimed deaths, treat level 4.
Update me anyone?
Remember that bully that is mean to you at school, Jimmy? Well, the Government has bullies too, which is why we make weapons to defend ourselves from those bullies.
81 confirmed cases, 7 confirmed deaths, around 2100 cases unconfirmed, 153 unconfimed deaths, treat level 4.
I'm willing to bet a great majority of those deaths were all simply infections with similar symptoms, chocked up to be Swine Flu. So far only 81 confirmed cases out of 2100, that's a pretty low amount. Those 153 deaths could be deaths that would've happened anyway, just caught up in the panic of this all. However, we could benefit from involuntary quarantine of the infected and regulation of medical supplies, all basics of pandemic control.
Okay, so how many people have died in places other than Mexico? (Or other 3rd world countries?)
Okay, so how many people have died in places other than Mexico? (Or other 3rd world countries?)
0 (well 2 unconfirmed in the USA)
