Those of you who are panicking need...
...a towel.

You obviously have no clue whatsoever is going on. Get out before you end up making yourself look like a bigger ass.
They say that, since it has transmitted to Mexicans now, the Swine Flu should be named the Mexican Flu.
[i][b]What's the difference?![/i][/b]

Well, if you say "swine flu", stupid people go "OH GOD WE CAN'T EAT PIG BURN ALL THE BACON AND PORK CHOPS." And since stupid people make up 70% of every nation's populace, that's a problem.
Calling it Mexican Flu just implies it came from Mexico, though, again, stupid people would probably warp that into "AROUND AN HISPANIC? YOU SHOULD PANIC."
We oughta just call it H1N1, but whatever.
Mexican flu suits it better, we've had Hong Kong flu and Spanish flu what's wrong with Mexican flu?
Anyway I reckon i've picked up a common cold and not a flu after all this trouble, i've got a small degree of sneezing, burning up and conjunctivitis in both eyes.
A town less then thirty miles from me has a confirmed case and the county next to us has the same. They canceled all afterschool sports. IM GONNA DIE

of boredom.
Mexicat Flu
I hope this will become a pandemic and start killing a lot of people, shit should be interesting atleast.
*EDIT*
Apparently, there has been 2 [b]suspected[/b] cases of infected in, surprise surprise, [b]Finland![/b]
Haha, where is your super secure country now?
[QUOTE=lazyguy;14932984]And you'd do better.[/QUOTE]
I'd like to think so.
For one, a few unconfirmed outbreaks in each country would not be interpreted as close to a pandemic. It would give pandemic potential. Also, a retooled system would be better.
[quote]Class 1- Outbreak is scattered and easily containable. Travel restrictions would be placed and research into the strain(vaccination included) would begin. Possible media blackouts based on the severity and nature of the disease.[/quote]
[quote]Class 2- Failing to contain a class 1, this outbreak would be slightly harder to deal with. Quarantines would be forced based on the severity of the strain, and antivirals would begin to be delivered, with a stockpile held for a possible second wave. Media blackouts in dictatorships and other similar nations would be seen, presenting a large health risk.[/quote]
[quote]Class 3- Should the outbreak not falter and proceed to a full on class 3 instead of just a second wave, the real ball game starts to be played. Recommended, if even forced, quarantines would be put on those countries still uncontaminated, including but not limited to physical border sealing, airport and seaport closure, and possibly martial law. Research on the virus would be ramped up and, should the amount of the infected overflow the amount of those still uninfected or possibly even immune, then involuntary quarantine would be placed on those still around to keep them alive. [/quote]
[quote]Class 4- Infected in every major nation world wide, with casualties possibly high. A vaccine would likely be well under research by now, but it could be futile assuming the virus has a high mortality rate. Society would begin to degrade, and shit would really hit the fan as supplies start to lower and medical personnel either die or become too sick to be of use. Superinfections would be possible. [/quote]
[quote]Class 5- Many countries have been eradicated by the outbreak, and few if any remain untouched by the plague. A true disaster. Billions of fatalities are a real possibility at this point. Most of the fallen countries would have lost to not only the outbreak, but governmental collapse and possibly other disasters. A vaccine would have likely been developed and deployed by this point(either failing or succeeding, in which case the amount of survivors would be determined only by those who are either uninfected or were not killed by the outbreak). [/quote]
These are based off of the fictional zombie attack levels in The Zombie Survival Guide, except retooled for most outbreaks. Sure, they are mostly guidelines, but...it's better than the flawed expectation system they have now. And it gives better details. I came up with this in 5 minutes, and it's an extremely rough design, but it works. By this, we'd be in a Class 1. Especially seeing as it's not fatal as of yet (we don't have much info on the confirmed 7 fatalities, they could have simply been from complications). An influenza pandemic is somewhat harder to deal with than others, but, hey, I'm only a 14 year old kid on a computer, did you expect something perfect?

lol my uni has a page on it
[QUOTE=ketchup;14932525]AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
You do realize that you have a better chance of walking outside and getting hit by a car than even contracting the swine flu?[/QUOTE]
No, you don't, swine flu is uncontained, its generally agreed it will become a pandemic, and theres a significant chance that pretty much anyone could contract it. Dont think this is another peice of hyped up media bullshit, its not, flu is very contagous and swine flu got worldwide in only a few days. considering its going to take months to develop a vaccine, its something ordinary people are going to have to be concerned about in the near future
Not concerned about very much. Unless you have a weakened immune system then you should be fine.

That's almost exactly what was said about SARS, Bird Flu and West Nile.
[QUOTE=ketchup;14933014]You obviously have no clue whatsoever is going on. Get out before you end up making yourself look like a bigger ass.[/QUOTE]
You haven't actually said anything of importance. You're just saying that you won with no real basis.
[QUOTE=Arachnidus;14933367]I'd like to think so.

The system is meant to show how dispersed the disease is, not how virulant it is. A pandemic is measured by how widespread it is, not deaths.
EDIT: Cool, virologists from my uni are working on a vaccine, though to the 1918 strain for some reason.

Well you base your ideas of a fucking zombie book so I'm not even going to go there.

Yes, because simple logic can't come from a fictional book, even if comedy was the primary intent of said book :downs:

I believe that there was evidence to support that this strain may be similar to, if not the same as, the 1918 strain. I assumed it was dead, that strain...guess not. Then again, Wiki has lied to me before.
[QUOTE=lazyguy;14933512]You haven't actually said anything of importance. You're just saying that you won with no real basis.[/QUOTE]
If you would read more than one page, you would see why I won.
I have stated my opinions time and time again, and I'm not repeating them for you.
[QUOTE=Arachnidus;14933505]That's almost exactly what was said about SARS, Bird Flu and West Nile.[/QUOTE]
They were all well enough contained to prevent an all out pandemic, swine flu is uncontained
I have a shitty immune system, I'm dead. :D

Well, they're both H1N1, 'cept my uni people started working on it last year....
Conspiracy? [img]http://d2k5.com/sa_emots/emot-downs.gif[/img]
The 1918 strain was taken from pigs. It later mutated to infect pigs (again) and then it gets fuzzy. Somewhere an avian component was introduced into the virus, and now it has mutated to a triple-combo that can spread along humans. The 1918 strain is the closest thing we have so far.
[QUOTE=MisterM;14933633]I have a shitty immune system, I'm dead. :D[/QUOTE]
Not quite, it's been healthy 20-35 year olds that have died so far due to(the theory, anyway) Cytokine Storm. Albeit, a good immune system would be helpful...
[QUOTE=gww1;14933621]They were all well enough contained to prevent an all out pandemic, swine flu is uncontained[/QUOTE]
Not quite. They got pretty far out, but all dissolved before they could come to a head. And a good portion of these infections are still unconfirmed.

Meh, I use a greasemonkey script to do it, works for me.
[QUOTE=Click Here;14932868]I'm more scared by the fact it's moving around fast...[/QUOTE]
You know that it is not deadly, right?
[QUOTE=Camundongo;14933735]Meh, I use a greasemonkey script to do it, works for me.[/QUOTE]
You're stealing bandwith.
Get MM3's Greasemonkey script that has all the emotes just like yours, but without the [img] tags.
[QUOTE=Camundongo;14933735]Meh, I use a greasemonkey script to do it, works for me.[/QUOTE]
As do I :downsgun:.
It's MM3's, though, as stated above.

That was because alot of them couldnt really sustain human to human transmission either, and swine flu can and is extremely contagous. Swine flu has everything that will make it become a pandemic, and the general consensus with medical professionals is it will. The NHS doesnt increase its antiviral stocks to enough for half the population just because of media panic. Swine flu is not as dangerous as other diseases, but its still a worry.
