That was because alot of them couldnt really sustain human to human transmission either, and swine flu can and is extremely contagous. Swine flu has everything that will make it become a pandemic, and the general consensus with medical professionals is it will. The NHS doesnt increase its antiviral stocks to enough for half the population just because of media panic. Swine flu is not as dangerous as other diseases, but its still a worry.
Well, then, I guess this is a blessing, then, because the antiviral industry is about to sky rocket from sales.
If this outbreak clears up by the fall, then obviously most major health organizations world wide would stock up for a second wave, if they don't want another 1918.

I think its expected to become widespread in the near future, die down over summer (as the flu does) and then come back in the autumn, where presumably people will be much more prepared and should wipe it out.

I love how you state "the general consensus" is that it's going to be a pandemic. No one yet has stated that it will be a pandemic, and they won't say that until we are actually at that point, or very close to it. Why? They don't want to induce panic.
If you are going to make more statements like you have been, provide a source.

Too bad you made that with the graph maker on the site.
I wanted to see who would notice. :D
WHO raised the pandemic alert level:

Phase 5 is characterized by human-to-human spread of the virus into at least two countries in one WHO region. While most countries will not be affected at this stage, the declaration of Phase 5 is a strong signal that a pandemic is imminent and that the time to finalize the organization, communication, and implementation of the planned mitigation measures is short.
heh, sounds like something max brooks would write.. *gulp*

Nooooooooo! Swine Flu is in Wisconsin. Dammit I thought we'd be safe way up here but no.
I think we need to do something just to make ourselves feel like we've done something.

Milwaukee has 4 confirmed cases of it. We're fucked.
Spoke to my mother on the phone today, she's got all of the symptoms and recently came in contact with someone that went to Mexico back in late Feb...
She's also very brittle with diabeties / athsma...weakened immune system and so on, fucking bricking it :(
anyone in socal up for a trip to mexico, get infected and spread it around to as many teenagers as we possibly can?
You really can't catch the same strain of flu more then once, so the faster it spreads, the faster people can shut the fuck up about it and get on with our lives

The problem is, the more people that are treated for it, the higher the chance that a second wave would be dangerous.

Uh, what?
Uh, what?
i think he's saying the flu would evolve against our treatments and actually be deadly
i think he's saying the flu would evolve against our treatments and actually be deadly
Correct. Any strains of the flu that survived would be resistant to antivirals, making them more dangerous. However, there's a high chance they'd still be affected by a vaccine.
Man, I'm sick. Doubt its swine flu though, don't think its hit Iowa yet.
Lol, if the vaccine is shit, what if it turns out like the I AM LEGEND movie with Will smith?
That was a damn vaccine.
Why do movies affect me?

Yeah that's shitty. I love how we joke about it so much at school but we will be the first to bitch when it happens.
