The only reason why it hasn't killed as many as seasonal flu is because it isn't as wide spread yet. Remember that it's only infected a few thousand people and has still managed to kill almost 50. Compared to normal flu the mortality rate of this is anywhere from 10-20 times more which makes it far more deadly. It seems for people to take this seriously it needs to spread into the millions and have killed hundreds of thousands. Even then I'm sure people like you will claim that it hasn't caused death tolls even close to WW2 so it's still nothing to worry about.

At least I don't have it...yet
