It's a very difficult job. I'm doing the same career here in a few months and my mentor was a flight medic in the Iraq war. No amount of dying soldiers screaming for their mothers equates to seeing dead children. The thing that haunts him the most was seeing a Greyhound run over a small boy's head. The best thing you can do is find somebody you feel comfortable with and talk with them.
Pills here, you'd better grab everything you can.

Both my parents are paramedics. They see a lot of stuff too but they deal with it. I'm just glad they don't smoke pot and make threads on Facepunch...
I've seen some pretty fucked up crap on the internet, but nothing on rotten.com can compare to seeing things in real life, for example when i had to assist surgery on a cat. it died, after being my loyal pet for over 11 years. and that's clean surgery.
i'd hat to think what the OP has to go through, i'm sure that the OP has saved more people and made more people happy than any of you snickering 12 year olds sitting at your computers (joshyy i'm looking at you).
pets always cheer me up, and going out with friends.

Here's another suggestion for you OP, try writing a blog about all the interesting calls you go on or make a thread about them here so you have some outlet for what you are feeling.

I plan to get my paramedic cert as soon as I finish college. I remember one call I was on for a morphine OD. When we arrived on scene this woman was unconscious in bed and wasn't breathing. We ventilated her until the paramedics go there and they started an I.V and gave her narcan. Within 30 seconds of them giving her that drug she stated breathing on her own, woke up, pulled the nasal airway we put in her out and started yelling at us for waking her up because she could see her dead brother. I had never see someone go from near death to pissed off in such a short amount of time before that.
Paramedic blog? I like the idea, I'd read it!
