Great Britain is a synonym of England United Kingdom = England + Scotland + Ireland Am I right?
Heard you were low on boxes.
england owns the uk and the british commonwealth deale w/ it
Britain owns the commonwealth? Any Canadians or Australians here to enlighten him?
Britain owns the commonwealth? Any Canadians or Australians here to enlighten him?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_of_Nations Our monarch leads the Commonwealth, doesn't mean we control the nations that are part of it, but in a sense we own it.

Less strong than say the EU. Which was founded by France. By that logic France owns Britain...
wat
No, i'm not saying that France actually owns Britain, just that Britain doesn't own the commonwealth members.
Every moment spent south of the border reminds me how lucky I am to live in Scotland.
True that.
actually the proper name for Bitain is Wales. Ok, us welsh (and I'm sure scots and some irish too) are fed up of being called english. Also British is the most used here, UK is just a political name. [editline]01:29PM[/editline]
Am i the only Welsh?
more welsh, yay.
True that.
Just because you have a superior education system, healthcare, system of taxation and government... All things that are very much overrated IMO.

I'm from england but when i'm abroad i say the UK/Britain, because we're probably the most globally hated, second only to america. Plus i'm from the north so most foreigners either think i'm scottish or Irish ;3 [editline]02:30PM[/editline]
No, i'm not saying that France actually owns Britain, just that Britain doesn't own the commonwealth members.
The commonwealth simply means that they serve the Queen of England. Nothing more, nothing less. Were this a Monarch controlled Nation, she'd probably have more authority over the commonwealth than their governments. Of course these days that would cause a revolution.
ITT: Britishmen
ITT: Britishmen
Brits
Brits
"Brit" can be as offensive to a British person as "Paki" can be to somebody from Pakistan. So British people tend not to use it.
"Brit" can be as offensive to a British person as "Paki" can be to somebody from Pakistan. I vote for Wales to be a country of its own :P With lots of sheep of course
I vote for Wales to be a country of its own :P With lots of sheep of course
No economically that would be a disaster for wales.
British for me. Because it sounds prouder.
"Brit" can be as offensive to a British person as "Paki" can be to somebody from Pakistan. So British people tend not to use it.
ha, i have no idea where you got that idea from. for a start, i don't know anybody that would be offended if you referred to them as a Brit rather than a British person, and secondly, many people use the term Brit, including us. so you're very wrong there. i tend to call myself British, although i will say English on occasion, and i'll say that i am from England or the UK.
Had this in school, I think it was Great Britain, The United Kingdom and the British Isles... I don't remember it though.
"Brit" can be as offensive to a British person as "Paki" can be to somebody from Pakistan. So British people tend not to use it.
Hahahahaha no
Well, in political terms, England still holds pretty much all the power over Scotland and Wales. It's in no way an equal union, you'd be a fool to think it is.
If I'm right there has been 2 GB flags, the one they use now and another one that exposes Scotland a bit more.
Great Britain is a synonym of England United Kingdom = England + Scotland + Ireland Am I right?
No you aren't.
I always find myself alternating in which I say, and was wondering what the people who live there actually prefer so I can use it. If there is another, please specify.
They are 3 separate things. The 'United Kingdom' is in fact 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland'. As is suggested by the name, it is Great Britain and Ireland. Great Britain is England, Scotland, and Wales.
I can't believe there are still Americans asking this question in the first place.
