Why did you have to eat it live? Put it out of it's misery first. That is fucking disgusting, seeing it squirming about wondering where it's lower body has gone, where all this pain is coming from. What does eating it live make a difference to?
Based on what I read on cracked, a frog is mostly driven by reflexes including a lot of rather precise movement. A reflex does not require the brain located in the head. So technically it's dead and can't really feel anything.Or at least brain-dead which is the same thing. After all frog is a cold blooded reptile and works a bit different form mammals.
can we stop this please? this is not at all representative of japanese culture, and even if it was there is nothing wrong with humanely prepared meat. it's so fucking annoying how prevalent casual racism is against asians
to be fair even if this was a bit inhumane, it's not like it's any worse than the shit other countries do ESPECIALLY the shit other countries do to other people alone!
I've seen this before, the animal instantly die other than some muscle reflexes. Its as fine as putting a live lobster into boiling water. They just instantly die.
they do? do you have a source for this? it doesn't sound like they instantly die, even with slicing the jugular, it isn't exactly instant. the shock itself might render it painless, but i don't know.
Halal AFAIK, is more humane way of killing the animal, as deep sleep-like unconciousness brought by the draining of large quantities of blood from the body.
Pretty much this. 'Industrial' halal, the one where you dip them in some form of gas knocking them out, then drain blood until they are dead still seems much, much more humane than jabbing a knife in the spine, even if this does kill it.
Guys calm down it's just a fucking frog.
Guys calm down it's just a fucking frog.
Frogs are serious business
they do? do you have a source for this? it doesn't sound like they instantly die, even with slicing the jugular, it isn't exactly instant. the shock itself might render it painless, but i don't know.
yeah it doesn't look like they were killed instantly. I could hear faint grunts from the cow after its throat was cut
I wonder if you would get warts on your tongue from eating one.
Meanwhile in nature: Frogs don't give one shit. [editline]14th December 2012[/editline] That said, I don't think you should extend the animal's suffering longer than necessary. You're already eating the thing; make it a clean kill.
I just watched this I wasn't in the mood for dinner anyways
You're already eating the thing; make it a clean kill.
the chef did exactly that
the chef did exactly that
Dunno anything about frogs, was the reaction afterwards just the result of severing the spine?
frogs just don't have any luck in cooking, always being prepped alive. Apparently that's when they taste the best though to be fair, the upper body is cut of from the rest of it, and the disconnected body is what was being skinned/gutted so violently. I think a hawk would do just as much terrible damage in picking up/eating a live frog, though I think there's a necessity vs vanity thing and we're just making it watch us eat it simply for the satisfaction of 'wow I'm eating a god damn animal look at me on this food chain' it obviously didn't die, if you continue watching the video it's sitting on the plate, blinking at its entrails, even trying to crawl away this is as bad as that fish that's grilled but kept alive, and people pick meat right off of it as it sits there gasping
Reflexive motions do not equal living. A human being with only a brain stem will twitch away from pain, blink, breath and even throw its arms out to stop blows but it doesn't make that person alive [editline]14th December 2012[/editline] sure does make them delicious though.
Dunno anything about frogs, was the reaction afterwards just the result of severing the spine?
frogs involuntarily react to stimuli well after they're dead [editline]1[/editline] yes
I like how everyone is like "omg its their tradition and we practically do the same thing to cattle here!!!!" when in reality the way we kill our cattle is with a form of "nail gun" which just inserts a nail right through their forehead, killing them instantly and without pain.
rip dav0r
How could you eat something blinking at you? That's fucked.

This is just fucking wrong. I mean, I remember how people would freak out about moving frog legs even though it was just a nerve reaction and the frog was actually dead, but THIS is way too fucking far. Skinned alive, sliced alive, eaten alive. Crawling in a hard dish of your own body parts. Humanity is fucking disgusting.
I wonder how it tastes. Maybe it tastes like chicken.

Good job forsaking all humanity for something one restaurant did and didn't even do anything terrible. [editline]15th December 2012[/editline]
I wonder how it tastes.
Maybe it might taste a bit like raw chicken?
That wouldn't taste too good then
it's not live, I've cooked frog and if you put certain seasonings like salt on the uncooked meat it'll move around like that [editline]14th December 2012[/editline]
I wonder how it tastes. Maybe it tastes like chicken.
frog tastes more like squirrel than chicken. it's much oilier than chicken too
It's not alive for fucks sake. It moves based purely on reflexes. Good job forsaking all humanity for something one restaurant did and didn't even do anything terrible.
Froglegs and salt are reflexes. How can you be sure this specific instance isn't an actual behavior? Boxes don't tell me much.
Absolutely vile, why is this not banned under animal rights laws
Hell if people really think this is bad I wonder what they think of when you cook Crabs or Lobsters, you have to put those little guys in boiling pots of water while they're still alive.
Don't crabs and lobster go into shock as soon as it goes in boiling water?
Don't crabs and lobster go into shock as soon as it goes in boiling water?
yes
Absolutely vile, why is this not banned under animal rights laws
because there's no reason for it to be [editline]1[/editline] vvv
