Crimes will still be committed and people will be killed regardless of accessibility to weapons.
Airsoft is a simple game though, I don't understand how hard of a concept it is to some people.
I'm starting to think there is something wrong with my CA M15. It doesn't seem to have the power or range it used to have. I think either the battery is fucked over, but I'm not much for internals so I need to ask your opinion with this guys.

Did you release the spring every time you were done shooting>+?
I've been doing that for awhile but at first I didn't, so I'm not sure if I did some major damage or not.
[editline]02:30PM[/editline]
It's my first real airsoft gun, so I wasn't really on the uptake with the proper procedure.
[editline]02:33PM[/editline]
Should I replace my spring? Because that could be it, it has about the same range as my springer pistol more or less.

The spring could be fine it might be something else. I'd take it to your local airsoft shop if your not to good with internals.
I'm really starting to think it's the charger, and it somehow ruined the battery. Because it's a cheap wall charger and the thing gets EXTREMELY hot while charging. My battery life is terrible now, so I think I may be it. I should send it in somewhere and get it inspected but for me it's not as easy and going down to a 'local' airsoft shop I have to ship it all the way to California.
Should the battery be draining when it's not connected to the gun?
depends on battery.
NI-CD batterys need to be drained and cannot be over charged at all.
HI HM batterys are more resistant and can be left powered and over charged a bit.
I really don't know what it is. The thing was, for about I year I completely tabled Airsoft to do other things, school and what have you and now that I'm getting back into it I find myself clueless as to half the stuff I own and where I put them.
The battery reads; "SCx7 8.4V 1800mAh" I doubt that tells you what you want to know. I'm starting to think I need a new battery regardless, and a smart charger so I don't forget about them. (Haven't done that yet but still) Got in a package deal on ASGI.
I just think it's so strange I charge the thing for six hours and I only get two hi-cap mags out of it before it dies.
Just get a new battery.
But keep in mind the low FPS and range is not a battery issue. Either your spring was left compressed for a very long time, or there is an air leak somewhere between the gearbox and hop-up unit.
How easy is it to replace a spring?
[editline]06:21PM[/editline]
I may just be overreacting too. I don't really know what the range is but it's not terribly far and then it starts to arch and fall out of the sky.

Not sure what you can tell from this picture but the spring doesn't look borked, then again I don't know what the hell I'm doing.
You are going to have to open it up for us.
Maybe try mechbox.net (or was it .com?)
They have a lot of guides.
Alright, what am I looking for when I get the spring out?
[editline]06:53PM[/editline]
I'm almost done, I could use an answer.
[editline]07:13PM[/editline]
Anyone? What the fuck am I looking for?
[editline]07:21PM[/editline]
[img_thumb]http://www.cubeupload.com/files/b25800dscn0595.jpg[/img_thumb]
Here's the spring. Looks find. Anything else I should check before I close it back up?
Well it looks compressed to me, but I don't have too much experience so it might be the angle.
So, I have to get a new one? If so, what should I buy?
Here's another picture:

That's in as far as it will go, not sure if that helps.
[editline]07:46PM[/editline]
FUCK I lost a piece, I shit you not I was staring at it and it just vanished.
[editline]09:05PM[/editline]
Well, I got everything back in, found the pieces but for the fuck of me I can't tell how to put the magazine catch back in properly, where the hell does this spring go?
ENDER GET IN HERE DAMN YOU!
I'm not very good at this at all.
IF you have to get a new spring (don't take my word on if you do or not) get it from ASGI.
Maybe just send your gun in for an tune up and they will do everything for you if you really want.
I put it back together, now it's not working. Magazine catch is still not installed either.

This is what I'm scared of happening when I take my gun apart. :ohdear:
My reaction when the gun didn't work:

I'm going to fuck around with it a bit, then I'll pay to have it repaired at ASGI. It's cheaper then getting a new gun.
I can't get my battery now though. :saddowns:

That is pretty much what happens with me whenever something doesn't work after I tinker with it.
[QUOTE=Fenriswolf;22336942]That is pretty much what happens with me whenever something doesn't work after I tinker with it.[/QUOTE]
I basically just hate that 10 seconds of "Oh shit I hope this works and if it does I hope it doesn't explode." Whenever you tinker with something in general, airsoft, computers, everything lol.
I never had a single accident relating to explosions or anything generaly bad when I do stuff.
Funny because I do a lot of explosive related things.
I love Airsoft GI. I called them about their repair and tune up and I figured they'd ask what's wrong and give me the whole process to send it to them but rather they actually walked me through what could be wrong and how to check. They told me to bypass the fuse, adjust the motor pins and when those didn't work they told me to check the trigger shuttle and make it sure it was making a connection so I fixed it.
Now it -runs- but it makes crazy whining noises, I adjust the motor pins a bit and I can get it running it auto but it doesn't sound right and semi doesn't work either. Anyone know what I could do now?
Also the battery, motor, connections, fuse everything got FUCKING HOT.
[editline]10:52PM[/editline]
I even managed to fix the magazine catch and get the entire thing together snug. Now, I just need to plug the battery back in and adjust the motor some more and hopefully I've fixed it. It makes a clicking noise but nothing from the gearbox or motor, probably because my battery isn't doing so hot.
If it's making whining noises, did you try readjusting the motor height?
Yeah, I've done it several times. It's either a terrible whining noise or a clicking noise. No inbetween. I got it to make a pained pop-pop noise like it should (well, not entirely but you know what I mean) the first time I tried but now it won't make anything other then clicking or screeching.
I plan to call ASGI in the morning and ask about it.
My guess is it's your shim job. Shims are the very small metal washers that act as spacers for the gears, thus adjusting their height to each other. If the shimming is too tight the gearbox can lock up or make bad noises, and require more power than normal to spin. This could be creating the heating issue. If it's too loose you might hear some rattling but it should still fire.
Unfortunately redoing a shim job and doing it well is almost an art. Even I suck at it. It requires you to remove the cylinder, piston, spring and spring guide, then close up the gearbox. You try to spin the gears and test for any looseness and if it spins freely or not. It's a lot of guess and check and unless you have a spare set of shims to use it will be hard to do.
WIRE, MOTOR, BATTERY, HEAT?
Electricity is a very warm thing.
So my DBoys AK74 arrived, and I'm pretty happy with it (the bolt was disappointing though. :( ). On my ASGI order, I put "I demand a smiley face on my FPS testing sheet!" in the 'Extra instructions/Comments' and they did.
Pictures up when I get back from lunch.
They also gave me two posters for free, as well as two little pamphlets ('[I]Good BB's: Go a Long Way[/I]' and '[I]General Maintenance: A Clean Gun is a Mean Gun[/I]'):

That's pretty cool.
I thought this was funny. Those airsoft threads in places like fast threads and GD are always funny.
