1942 was so fucking fun but I always had a shit ton of lag and it was impossible to play. Still miss it, though.
Here is some music to celebrate http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ELFxB-tGhE
I remember seeing the BF:V trailer years ago and really wanting it because I'm a huge Vietnam War buff. I've still yet to play it :(
Battlefield was one of the main reasons i got into the fps genre, just because of how awesome it looked. Now that they use that dumb punkbuster software i can't play online anymore just because of my guid.
I've had really good fun playing BF3, but I still miss the pleasant maps of Bad Company 1 and 2, they were a lot more enjoyable to drive and run around in than BF3 maps. Bad Company 1 had a really fun campaign as well, I was sad when I heard they had toned down the humor a lot for the second, it's what made the characters so special to me. BFV would have to be my favorite though, I played that one the longest and I still cherish it. I remember all the time I spent in jets/helicopters doing unnecessary acrobatics and shit just to fire missiles or my machine gun on someone, I remember how I started too. I always wanted to find a quicker way to take out targets but I ended up turning it into an art, and a very dangerous one. I usually died more to suicide than to enemies if I started trying all these fancy fly-by's in helicopters at low altitude.
Enemy boat spotted.
It seems to have gathered the modern FPS syndrome where it must carry COD characteristics, which will turn anything into shit. .
I think it tried to appeal to too wide of an audience. Maps like Op. metro and grand bazaar, and DLC packs like close quarters are trying to rake in the infantry-only players. I can understand wanting to play that, but if you want to play battlefield for that, you're playing the wrong game. They shouldn't have wasted their time there.
Battlefield is a game of guns and weapons and vehicles, not just infantry combat that you only get guns and medals for. The old game never gave you medals or promotions, and if it did, it was hella hard to get.
I think Bad Company 1 was hugely overlooked because it wasn't on PC, but personally it is one of my favorites after 2142 and BF2. I think BC2 and BF3 are kind of lackluster, though. They just don't feel like a battlefield game anymore in those.
BC1 was great. BC2 pissed me off because they took away the "different ways to approach the battle" concept.
I played the absolute shit out of 1942 with bots.
I'm a Battlefield hipster. I bought 1942 and all big box expansions before BFV was announced. Road to Rome was boring, but Secret Weapons of WW2 was fairly interesting. I remember fighting up a snow mountain so I can capture a cottage on top. Desert Combat is the best Battlefield mod. Star Wars mod was alright.
I loved Desert Combat's soundtrack. Desert combat was one of the best mods of all time. [editline]25th September 2012[/editline] I know that this is pre-rendered (as opposed to all the other intros which are actual gameplay videos) but I think this one is my favorite.
While i think Battlefield 3 is pretty fun, it feels completely different from the previous games. Battlefield 2 and 2142 are the best, it would be great if they were re-made.
