Honestly, you should've hit her back. By letting her hit you and not hitting her back, you were showing that you were a coward. I don't care about showing her respect, I just think it is wrong to hit someone who isn't as prepared to defend themself as me. I feel that I should be the bigger man and distance myself from it instead of fighting an extremely unfair fight.

Because women in general are weaker then men. So it is a good rule of thumb.
The answer, if a woman is hitting you and it's against your beliefs to hit them back, is to simply push them back, hard, that way, if they trip and fall after you've pushed them, well, that's their fault and you haven't hit them at all.

I know she won't, I told her I was calling the cops and when I was on the phone she decided she didn't feel like going to jail so she left, plus I didn't press charges or give any information about her.

Hitting a woman in self-defence = Justified
If i'm getting myself beaten on by a girl/woman I'm not about to just take it, I'd at least try to make my way out of there first without any harmful contact, then a push, then restraint and THEN IF need be, a gut punch, because you can't fight without air in your lungs. Fighting isn't justified in any situation and resorting to that shows cowardice on the provokers part. If it's drug or booze induced anger/rage and theres no choice but to defend ones self then I say it's close to no-holds-barred.
At that point I'm thinkin' "It's my life or theirs... mine." But only if its that bad, and you never really know how far someone will go in a fight, *they may not have any self control and kill you on accident.
