I'd love to do some track days but don't wanna risk taking the Lude as it's my daily and I don't have the cash for a car as a track slag. If only I had some more cash reliable mates so we could all chip in for a track car...
We should all chip-in and buy a Dare Ginetta G12 and use it for trackdays as a facepunch project <3

190hp? May as well build a Bradley GT II with twin turbo VW air-cooled, or the boxer 6 out of the 80's 911SC.

Plus, it's called a Bradley.
That makes it instantly cool.
[editline]12th April 2011[/editline]
On a side note I drove a 1982 911SC once. Felt like driving a Beetle, no joke. Bland car.
My ideal track slag would be a BMW E30 325i. Cheap to buy, responds well to cheap mods and RWD. Perfect candidate!

Here's what I'd have:

Good mileage, a lot of the major engine work already done recently and seems to be in good nic.
Could probably get it for £1000, man it's soooo tempting!
Agreed, the 325i is a perfect track bitch.

Facepunch Autocross team go, we could have six or seven bimmers all decked out with fancy paint and some cool stickers saying how awesome we are as a team.

My brother wants to convert his 91 LS Integra with a B18 something to a Vtec and he's thinking of buying this motor.

Or a "Vtec conversion kit" which is apparently just a head I guess. Just looking right now though.

$4500 is a little bit out of his price range. GSR motors are supposed to be the creme of the crop aren't they?
[editline]12th April 2011[/editline]
Or they are for the early 90's.
Ask him if he can go a little lower, even at $650 that is a steal for a B17A1. Those are really hard to come by, and that's a great deal for one complete that needs rings. Rebuild the bottom end and throw in a little more beefy rods, slap it in the car, and turbo it down the road, excellent motor.
My two favorite B swaps are the B18A1 for the cost, since they are cheap as hell, and the B17A1 because it's pretty much the best B-series ever. Sure, the B16A1 and B18C3 are great, but the DA GSR B17 is just so amazing. Plus, how often does someone say they have a GSR swap... And it be a B17? Most are the B18C3 out of the DC... Those are so overplayed.
Are you going to go for full GSR conversion or keep it stock? If you convert it that shit better be clean. Otherwise, do the swap and clean up the DA a bit, you'll have a respectable ride.
Down the road do a B16 head swap if you want a little more out of the stock bottom end, and then sell that GSR head to make up the cost. The GSR block is worth the entire deal alone. The head isn't much different from the B16/B18 counterparts, little bigger CC than B16 IIRC.
Anyways, my $0.02, and good luck.
Really? My brother talked to my dad about it and he's trying to talk him out of buying it because it needs the ring job. So It's a steal huh? I'll have to talk to him after he gets off work tomorrow morning.
Do the head swap for now. Don't put the block together and use it just yet.
Head is a direct bolt-on, use the gasket for the B17.
On the block, do a full bottom-end rebuild, save it for later OR sell it with the non-VTEC head and get your money back.
[editline]13th April 2011[/editline]
Wiring VTEC is a bit harder but you'll get it, no biggie. Find an ECU and diagrams later, you can live without VTEC for a while.
Talking to my brother right now...

Picture of his Integra from the Craigslist add he bought it from:

Missing the passenger side mirror, and has a primered fender and hood. It needed a bath, looks a lot nicer now. :v: Oh, and it's going to be sitting most of the time as my brother has a Suspended license, so he's got time to work on it.
[editline]13th April 2011[/editline]
Thanks for the Info, Bradley. My brother is probably gonna go pick up the motor.
Alright, no problem man. Honda is one thign I am passionate about and I know pretty much all there is to know, I made it my goal since my Dad is a mechanic and it's one of the few things he doesn't know shit about. When I tried to tell him what motor I had built for my car "It's a D15B block with a D16Y7 head, D16A6 cam and iceman intake, pretty much it", and he replied with "D15B-hundred-16 and all that shit doesn't me anything to me."
He's an old school car guy, learned his shit in the 70s when he built his truck and then started building shops from the ground up. He sold everything he had and moved us to Cali when I was a mere babe and when I was 6 he sold everything he had built up there (which was a lot, he had some nice shit) and we moved back to Oklahoma. One car I will always hate him for getting rid of is my dream car... In Cali he acquired a jet black, cleeeeeeeaaaaaaaan as hell '70 Dodge Challenger with a 426 Hemi, 4-in-the-floor. Hnnnnnnnnnnnnngh. The guy my dad sold it to died in a mill accident, whereabouts of that car are unknown now...
Anyways he bought his first car new in '73, a Dodge 3/4 ton pickup. It's sitting at my parents' house right now. All I know is that it has a 440 in it, punched out to about 488 ci and pushing a little over ~1000hp to the rear wheels. It's the only car that I've ever known that you can start up, have it be on the back of 10 acres, and feel it running at the front of the property.
It needs restored so bad though. The body started falling apart and all he does to keep it in shape is start it once in a blue moon. He's thought about cleaning it up and taking it to the midnight drags to make one more pass, then it's going back stock with a 318.
It'll go to me when he passes away. It'll be one junky old farm truck that I'll keep until I die, and hurt anybody who lays a finger on it. That truck means a lot to my dad, it's been totalled twice in its life and restored completely, so I don't see him ever giving up on it. It's kind of a beautiful thing.
The older dodge pickups were so wierd, I don't know why but I never seemed to like them. Even though I'm a hardcore mopar guy.
I kind of have the same feeling for the 1968 coronet we have.
The story goes is that his friend had a job working on the transformer boxes or whatever in the city, because of his vantage point up on the pole he could see into the yards.
One job he had he spotted a 1968 Coronet 500, the car in question. He told my dad about it, don't know why, and he came and bought it for a grand. I havent found any pictures of it when he got it but my parents said that it had a padded dash, hippy headliner, chain steering wheel. This car was a 70s history artifact.
So after getting it he proceeded to restore it. His dad drag raced and built cars while his grandfather built the engines. Using the knowledge he acumulated he restored the car to a very nice condition. It was appraised at around 35 grand and was in top condition. It is a R/T clone and had a 440 at the time. He proceeded to drive it during high school. There was a cop, who would sit behind a sign by the school and wait specificly for my dad to do something.
The car was a monster, the engine was built well and pushed around 600hp, it would set off car alarms when he drove it. Then he made it a quarter mile car. Put a roll cage in it, 547 cui Keith black engine, a bunch of performance goodies, new suspension, you get the point. The car was loaded; it ran 11 seconds easy on the quarter mile. It maintained the stock interior while incorporating the drag parts into it.
Later on he ripped out the engine and put it in the 69 Barracuda, but thats another story.
Currently the car sits outside the garage, without a carpet (due to cat hair and mouse shit) and without a heart. It's getting done by the summer no matter what, he has set it aside too long. I plan to drive it from time to time in highschool.
I wouldn't sell this car if I had a gun to my head and a hammer to my balls.
