I think I can understand why he's afraid of sex. Either he saw his parents doing it and ruined him for life, or his parents threatened him with a gun to never think about sex. Even when they gave him a book to think about sex. Though it was still "You can read, but still don't think about sex! It's bad for you and will kill you if you jack off!" I'm out of ideas.
