I dont know if i can get into Super. The power levels went way off the fucking charts, i mean i thought regular DBZ got nuts about it but jesus.
It's the best they've done in decades. The animation quality is bad but the story is good, as good as it's ever been before.
Kind of reminds me of the dark tournament(?) from Yu Yu Hakusho. I wonder how huge the power creep is going to be this arc though. With the Black Goku arc being pretty insane, if some of the gods are suppose to be stronger than Black Goku, that means Goku/Vegeta has to be able to compete in some way. Do you think they'd bring fusion dance back? Or just another ssgod form

I want to see SSJB2 so like SSJ2 rigid hair with lightning effect. SSJB3 would look silly. and Since Goku/Vegeta have never made Gogeta in any form of canon. since GT and movies aren't canon. and Gotenks SSJ3 made its 30min time go down to like 5 mins. Goku and Vegeta in SSJB wouldn't last 30 seconds before it shat them back out.

Also Goku Black was a stronger Goku from the original flow of time before Trunks went and did his thing, sort of how he stopped Goku from dying to a heart virus. But the Gods are still on a whole other level.
Welcome to any shounen anime. Hunter X Hunter, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Dragon Ball, to a lesser extent Attack on Titan, the list is endless and they all follow that exact same formula and we all fall for it every time. It's not going away any time soon.
Hunter X Hunter at least severely punishes characters who do that sort of shit. [sp]Just look at Gon, who spent his physical potential just to kill one person in an uncontrollable rage and then lost his powers afterwards. Forced him to re-examine just what he wanted in life and out of the story focus for the time being.[/sp]
Welcome to any shounen anime.
Who the fuck put Roshi and Tien there.
Well realistically who else do you have? Yamcha? Mr. Satan? Some long forgotten character from Dragon Ball?
Well realistically who else do you have? Yamcha? Mr. Satan? Some long forgotten character from Dragon Ball?
Clearly it should be Eighter [t]http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/dragonball/images/3/3d/Android8DragonBallNV01.png/revision/latest?cb=20100701075152[/t]
IIRC Eighter had a very Minor non speaking Cameo in the Goku Black arc, so they have not forgotten him completely
A YouTuber named MasakoX mentioned Pikkon, the one Olympian looking guy Pikkon fought, and Cell, due to his sense of Saiyan honor and a history of (mostly) sticking to tournament rules. Wouldn't be hard to wish any of them back.
It's weird seeing someone refer to Masako as a YouTubeer I know he is one, but most of the time I only seem him referred to in the context of DBZ Abridged
A YouTuber named MasakoX mentioned Pikkon, the one Olympian looking guy Pikkon fought, and Cell, due to his sense of Saiyan honor and a history of (mostly) sticking to tournament rules.
well Pikkon is not canon, he's an anime only character. and Cell wouldn't be brought back to life.
He cites reasons why both could work. It's not perfect, but i'd rather Pikkon and Cell on my side than Roshi and Tien, fudging the writing or not. And to be fair, they're finding a way to make Broly sorta canon it seems, so it's not hella far-fetched.
Cell, due to his sense of Saiyan honor and a history of (mostly) sticking to tournament rules.
Cell didn't have either of these. He shared the Saiyan love for fighting but not their honor. He threw the rules of the tournament out the window multiple times whenever it suited him best: first by blowing up the ring and removing the out-of-bounds rule in the middle of the fight, second by spawning Cell Jrs and attacking the Z-Fighters while fighting Gohan, and third by giving up and trying to blow up the entire planet when it was clear he had lost Cell was just like Frieza when it comes to any sort of code of honor and he'd be way too unreliable to bring back just for a tournament, you might as well consider Frieza what with his golden form and all if you're going to consider Cell. The whole thing was just an excuse to get everyone to fight him one-on-one on television, it was vanity, not honor. (Though I must admit even Cell makes more sense than fucking Master Roshi on the team) Also I don't see why he'd replace 17 and not 18, regardless of their family dynamic. 17 was the better fighter, and actually enjoyed fighting to boot.

It's not going away any time soon.
One Piece doesn't do this though. At least not to an extend. It has a pretty ruled power level behind characters strengths. There are no characters that go beyond unreachable limits. Others (like Luffy going G4) have achieved it from training. They aren't invincible though. Bleach abused this abnormously. The scheme was the same every time. Fight guy -> Can't defeat -> Find hidden ability and ascend to stronger version -> Defeat guy -> Repeat till the end of the series. Can't say anything about other shounens.
Figured this would be appropriate since it is about the latest arc preview (which, by the way, the official name for it is the “Universe Survival arc”). Also, I really enjoy this guy's stuff, as watching him breakdown which animators worked on which cuts in each DBS episode is pretty dang interesting. Definitely recommend checking him out. Edited: Extended version of the Universe Survival arc preview.
Is that Universe 10 at 9 seconds? Looks like Gowasu standing there.
So on the FujiTV show Nonstop, there was a preview of the new DBS OP "Limit-Break x Survivor", which will be used starting this week's upcoming episode:
Well the latest Dragon Ball Super episode just hit last Sunday and holy shit that new opening! Christ, where the hell was this during the last 76 episodes of Super? Not to say that I didn't like Chozetsu Dynamic (the series first OP), in fact I still do. But this one is just full of high energy that it blows the previous OP right of the water! The episode itself I really enjoyed as well. Really love the way they're doing the lineart! For me, it adds a layer of warmth to digital lineart, which in turn makes the lines appear to have more dimension and depth, sort of like mimicking imperfect hand-drawing pressure, and overall gives it a much less sterile souless feel that I feel modern animation is plagued by. It looks to be more or less the same process Toei did with Tiger Mask for adding thicker brush strokes (though done in a slightly different way), which in that case is great because even though I haven't seen much of Tiger Mask, the stuff I have seen features some really great lineart, so seeing something like that be done with super makes me very happy. Can't say the same for the new high contrast filter they have going on, as it reminds me quite a bit of the Orange Bricks (which are considered to be the WORST home release of DBZ of all time), and that just makes me sad. I'm not going to let it bother me too much, but it is something that does bug me.
not a single thing has gotten more hyped for dragon ball than that moment in the OP where Roshi takes off his sunglasses

Should we have a DBS thread perhaps?
Should we have a DBS thread perhaps?
Why not a more general DB thread?
works too
A general Dragon Ball thread does sound like a good idea. In fact, I'm actually in the process of making one myself! Sort of my first time doing something like this (making a general thread for something like a franchise I mean), so if any of you have any ideas on what I should put in the OP, feel free to suggest them. In the meantime though, here's some recent DBS news: The April 2017 issue of V-Jump was released today (though it was leaked a few days ago), and within it reveals the remaining names (plus designs and who designed them) of all twelve God of Destructions, and even shows off the designs of a few other characters, including Fembroly/Brolyne/Coli/whoever. [T]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C439_O-VUAQ14Ip.jpg[/T] [T]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C43-CakUoAIwZTL.jpg[/T]
Next week’s forthcoming April 2017 issue of Shueisha’s V-Jump magazine in Japan is set to reveal the remaining names of all twelve God of Destruction characters from the Dragon Ball Super series, expanding on a concept that began in 2013’s theatrical film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and has continued into the new television series’ “Universe Survival arc”. Character designs have been handled both by original author Akira Toriyama as well as Toyotarō, illustrator for the Dragon Ball Super “comicalization” that also runs monthly in V-Jump. Sidra was named last week on the series’ official website. The April 2017 issue of V-Jump will hit shelves 21 February 2017 for ¥550 and is available for pre-order via Amazon Japan and CDJapan. The “Universe Survival arc” began 05 February 2017 with the seventy-seventh episode of the television series. The Dragon Ball Super television series airs Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. on Fuji TV in Japan. The series is available for free and premium viewing on licensed sites such as Crunchyroll, Daisuki, and AnimeLab. New episodes are added — in their original Japanese language with accompanying English subtitles — the same day as their Japanese broadcast. FUNimation has also announced their American distribution license for the series, with the English dub beginning last month on Cartoon Network.
