this happened to me once,
there was this forum i regularly posted on, and out of nowhere, one random day, this user (to whom i was very well associated with)passed away in an accident. it was wierd.
I decided to go to my internet friend's funeral instead of my mother's.
I actually am effected more by the deaths of people online, even though they are completely random.
Because everyone here is somehow like me, posting on this forum and being a member of this community.
It's odd, for instance if I found out Rusty100 died or something I would just be a little sad ya know, cause we all know him.
when i die I want someone to update my facebook status to "dead"
I want this as well, I've already told my friends that if I get taken ill at uni or something happens that I want them to update my facebook and twitter then go on steam and tell the steam group I regularly go on :v:
While i don't know who was that person, i think everybody here agrees with me that death is, in fact, part of our lives. Yes, you can die in the blink of an eye, and people will cry and be sad for you, but life goes on, and you have to deal with it.
I've already thought about it. If i die (which will happen, maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next year, but sometime in the future), people i loved will cry for me. My parents, my brother, my entire family...but as i've said, life goes on, and i bet my family and friends won't be sad for the rest of their lives if i pass out.
if makol died i would be devastated
I realised that awhile ago. It made me feel like such a prick, trolling random forums. :saddowns:
Who?
This really inspired me to clean up my act. Somebody that was so kind without demanding anything back does not deserve to die as young as she did, or as tragically.
I know a guy who had a heart attack, it happened the day before I joined their forum/server. I was going to chat with the guy but I learnt he had a stroke, so I might not ever meet him, but all these people know him already. (This all happened yesterday)
-snip- I read the post above me as the OP

It definitely depends on the size of the forum. I would be much more affected by the death of someone on a smaller, more close-knit forum, or perhaps a subsection of Facepunch that I regular.
Big Dumb American pretty much said it, most of you guys are strangers and though I would feel very bad if someone were to die, I would be somewhat less affected if I had not seen them on FP very often. However, if it was a person I knew, perhaps from a smaller forum or a close-knit section, I would be more upset about it.
The way you react to someone dying on the internet is pretty much the same as any other situation in that it depends on how significant they were to you.

From the Hello Kitty avatar. Irony.
Kind of reminds me of the time Toke, who made some great Doom wads for Zdoom and Skulltag, was in a car accident. The wads were edited to have a dedication to him when you joined a server.
People die. Get over it.
I remember when I used to play WWII online a slightly known player passed away from a Heart Attack. The whole community including me attended an online funeral for him. The devs also made several memorials of him in the game.
RIP AOTHELM.
Here's just one of the funerals they did that happened around the WWII online map:

This will probably happen to me, in the sense that I'll probably have something running online when I die. I really have no idea how the people I consider friends that I only know through online will learn of my death or how I'll learn of theirs, I just know it's going to suck a lot because I do cherish a lot of their presences.
Heart for you, OP. I know the sorts of forum you're talking about as I go to a few of those. :)
People being dicks in this thread: Stop it. Everyone else, Hearts.

Deaths over the internet are sad, but not nearly as affecting as a death of someone you know in real life.
That said, I'd be pretty sad if something happened to Pieclock or l34rn.
Why the fuck are people rating the OP's post funny? Bunch of trools...
I am very sorry for you loss.

Her last posts on the forum were only hours before the fatal accident.
Can you show us these posts? I am interested in them.
Ya, I used to be hugely worried about this when I was younger. Even today, I toy with the idea of leaving all my usernames and passwords I've ever used, and telling my parents to go to every favourite I have and make a post or something saying I died.
I mean, to me it's just depressing. On Steam mostly, I know atleast 20 people really well, and what if one day I died, but they would have no way of knowing. All they would see is "Redskins, Last Sign In: 1 month ago" and they would be "Where the hell is he". It goes vice versa, what if a friend who frequents Steam often, is suddenly gone for a month, did he die? Lost his computer? Or is he just to busy to play games.
I would just get one of my friends to post a thread here, a comment on Facebook, and change my msn name.
That way, everyone i talk to will see it in one way or another.
Actually I have also thought about this.
On one hand, you think who the fuck cares if you die? You have never officially met them so why would they care? On the other hand I have friends who message me about why I was off steam for one hour since Steam is on almost 24\7.

The whole time I just imagined some guy joining and saying
"sup faggots :D" and mowing down everyone in the square with an MG42.
Who was it?
Facepunch is too big for anyone to care about someone dying unless is was a well known member.

Me too
Well, the sad thing is that I woke up early the day I died, today. I'm posting this from beyond, so I'm waiting for the heart ratings.
