The kindle is just for books, right? If I am I don't really see much point too it other than not having to carry books around.
I have one of these. I read IT off it. And it doesn't make me sick when I drive and read.
I'd prefer to just use paperbacks.
To me, it just looks like an iPad with a smaller a screen and more like a gameboy. Sure, it's less expensive, but for me the screen is a big issue for me.
You're missing the point.

Kindles are amazing. People really underestimate it though. Some dumbass: "What did you get for christmas?" Me: "A Kindle and some other stuff." Dumbass: "LOL OGM READING IS FOR HOMOES ND LYSDEXIC PEOPLE AHAYHA LMAO XD"
The Kindle looks real attractive right now, but I think I'll wait a few more years for color e-ink.
My brother has one, I don't really like it The way the page refreshes isn't nice and the screen looks like a fake display screen on display phones in shops, pisses me off real bad
I'd rather read a real book and contribute money to a book store.
Okay. £111 For Wi-Fi £153 For 3G + Wi-Fi Obviously Kindle, is Kindle, and therefore you read books, it also has a web browser, and the ability to play music. Therefore being superior to everything.
Has anyone used the new Kindle 3? Is it worth it?
It is. I got one for christmas, and it only costs $139. I would probably pay $200 for it.
i got one too, it's pretty awesome don't complain about the lack of backlight and the paper-esque display guys, because if not for those features, your eyes would be the things ultimately complaining
I find that I spend enough time gawping at screens. I wouldn't really want to spend an exciting evening surfing the web, then go to bed and look at another screen. That's what's always put me off those e-readers.
It's not a screen, it used e-ink. I think. The Nook uses e-ink, which is ink that automatically goes to cells to form words. It looks EXACTLY like a book, no joke.

Then you don't notice it at all. And the screen is the best part. I can't read a whole book off any other type of screen I've seen without hurting my eyes.
I don't read enough books to justify buying one of these. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't like reading. I just don't know how.
I got the new one. I love it man.
I have a Kindle 3. :iia:
Yay for bumped threads.
can you change the font oh my god
can you change the font oh my god
It also has a TTS feature. The voice is annoying, but still pretty cool.
I have a Kindle 3 with the 3g. I absolutely love it, reading on it is just so much easier. You can have a whole library of books on the go and such. For all the people complaining about Amazon taking away books you bought. You can get books from other places than Amazon and use a software called Calibre to convert it for your Kindle. Also with the page refresh I've noticed if you set the font to the smallest the refresh is way to slow. But if you set it to the second font size the refresh is fast and won't stop your flow of reading. And the battery life is freakin amazing, I've had once since mid November and I've only charged it twice. If you love reading books, but you hate carrying books around the Kindle is just fucking fantastic. Also if you're into manga or comics there's a software called Mangle which converts your scans/pics to the size of the Kindle.
I'll always use books, if just for the smell of them. Yeah, I'm weird like that.
Has anyone used the new Kindle 3? Is it worth it?
I just got it for Christmas. The answer is YES. [editline]14th January 2011[/editline]
Nah, i know what you mean. They have a distinct, book-ey smell.
It's that paper, it's such a nice smell. (The Nook is the eReader sold by Barnes and Noble)
Is the Orwell books still erased, and removed? and is it possible to write on it? Like a texteditor - or do you have to do it on the web?
why did someone resurrect this thread... its been dead over a year
So many people have a misunderstanding about what the Kindle is intended to be. Oh well. :sigh: I have one and it is really great. So much easier to hold and read than a book. I guess I don't read fast enough for the refresh-speed to be an issue for me. Don't compare the Kindle to ipads and tablets. Two very different markets and feature sets.
I got a Wifi Kindle 3 for Christmas. I'm on the tube for 8 hours a week at least and it's a godsend not having to fiddle with pages and bookmarks when it's packed. :iia:
I have one, the newest generation, they are nice you can read .pdf files with them.
Is the Orwell books still erased, and removed? and is it possible to write on it? That's what pisses me off about this story, people only read the bold part of it: Amazon remotely deletes books off thousands of kindles because it turns out the company they bought them off didn't have the rights to distribute them and those affected got a full refund.
I have an original version kindle. thinking of upgrading
