[TotalBiscuit] Overwatch's Strong Animal Heroes and that one Winston pose
A few people in the thread were backing her up but it's pretty clear the vast majority of players either don't give a shit or out right disagree with the decision.
For the people saying this doesn't constitute a slippery slope I have to ask, have you paid attention at all? Has caving into social justice regressives ever worked? Do you not think this person and people like them aren't just going to find the next thing that makes them feel uncomfortable? If you get these people an inch they take a mile as evidenced by historic fact. Personally I don't give a shit either way about the pose but watching a developer who will doggedly defend unpopular game design choices in Diablo or WoW cave immediately like this is disturbing.
Around 25:30, Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw from Zero Punctuation makes a point like this in a video.

Here's a direct link to the time in the video:

Essentially he argues that if someone gets upset over artistic expression, the best thing to do is to mock them rather than give in because if you do it validates them and it means they can walk all over you. At the same time you shouldn't overreact and get mad, because that just makes them feel self-righteous and means you're getting upset over stupid things too. You need to make fun of them, blow a raspberry in their face, and make fun of them (not in a mean way) for getting upset over silly things otherwise you will gradually reach a situation where a vocal minority has complete control over creative decisions and has more right to free expression than someone like Immamoonkin above.
Stop trying to cater to "families" when this game isn't mean(sic) to be played by younger children
This has been my opinion for quite some time.
But in the end its all about money and whatever sells the most, which is quite often the trend with movies as well by trying to reach a wider range of audiences and ensuring a age rating of 13
the devs are more pathetic than the person complaining, they actually agreed to just one particular person and went on with it?
They should replace the pose with something like this.

You know that fits her character too well.
I'm actually blown away by how stupid this 'controversy' is
what a JOKE lmao

they probably thought on reflection that it was giving off a message they didn't intend it to. It's inconsequential but they made the game so w/e.
it's been blown out of proportion imo

Nice to see other people who agree with me that this whole thing is kinda silly over ONE pose and only ONE Pose.
Call me when a shit ton of poses gets removed, then I'll care.
Nobody gives a rat shit for this particular pose ffs. Everyone's shocked by how easy it was for blizzard to go out and delete this pose just because of one complain and being dead silent when the whole community inside and outside of Overwatch are calling them out.

Dude, have you read anything people have said to you? It's not about the pose, no one gives a shit about the pose. It's about the precedent that's been set.
On a side note,
Mass Effect had the best butts.
Mass Effect? That's a funny way of writing Metal Gear.

Nice to see there's one person I can reverberate off of to help me create an echo chamber.

I think its a joke for different reasons
The pose should never have been removed
the fact that anyone even complained at all in the first place is frankly laughable
I'm not even sure how this became a controversy in the first place
I can see why people are annoyed though, its a really stupid show of weakness on blizzards part but tbh its not too big of an issue.
TB's video summarizes how silly the complaint was quite well.

Exactly what I agree with. It's shitty, but not THAT shitty like this thread is making it out to be.

Hey now, I am my own individual

You act as if everyone is making Blizzard out to be Hitler. They're just calling Blizzard out on their shit.
IMO, the "sexual" part is how the spandex seemingly goes up her crack to make an essentially nude butt shape. They should just make it look like real spandex and go across the butt.

real spandex looks terrible though
the whole point is to let you get away with showing nude people without it counting as nudity
I think I'm beginning to notice a trend here everyone.
All of these "problems" are with female characters.
Therefore, female characters are the problem.
Therefore, remove all female characters, problem solved.
[sp]If it isn't obvious enough, I'm being sarcastic.[/sp]
But really, where does this crap end?
Remove them, make them all male.
Keep the ass poses though please.
Well, that escalated quickly…
While I stand by my previous comment, I realize I should have been more clear. As the game director, I have final creative say over what does or does not go into the game. With this particular decision, it was an easy one to make—not just for me, but for the art team as well. We actually already have an alternate pose that we love and we feel speaks more to the character of Tracer. We weren’t entirely happy with the original pose, it was always one that we wrestled with creatively. That the pose had been called into question from an appropriateness standpoint by players in our community did help influence our decision—getting that kind of feedback is part of the reason we’re holding a closed beta test—but it wasn’t the only factor. We made the decision to go with a different pose in part because we shared some of the same concerns, but also because we wanted to create something better.
We wouldn’t do anything to sacrifice our creative vision for Overwatch, and we’re not going to remove something solely because someone may take issue with it. Our goal isn’t to water down or homogenize the world, or the diverse cast of heroes we’ve built within it. We have poured so much of our heart and souls into this game that it would be a travesty for us to do so.
We understand that not everyone will agree with our decision, and that’s okay. That’s what these kinds of public tests are for. This wasn’t pandering or caving, though. This was the right call from our perspective, and we think the game will be just as fun the next time you play it.
If it isn’t, feel free to continue sharing your concerns, thoughts, and feedback about this and other issues you may have with the game, please just keep the discussion respectful.
Thanks,
jeffrey
tbh this entire post just sounds like PR after meeting unexpected backlash. if they themselves didn't like it and was already working on a replacement, why wait to remove it until somebody complained about it? why put it in the game in the first place?

"I have final creative say over what does and does not go into the game" - "We(I) weren't entirely happy with the original pose, it was always one that we wrestled with creatively". Okay guy. That's textbook damage control.

I think the point is that, the original post very heavily implied they took it out because it was offensive and even went so far as to apologize.
I completely respect if they just weren't happy with it, and I couldn't give a shit if it they changed it or not, and while I'm not subscribing to any conspiracy theory about the situation, coming out and saying "It was my decision to remove it." literally directly after apologizing and promising to do better because someone said it was offensive makes very little sense. They could've just silently replaced it at some point, but instead they made it a message about sexism somehow for no reason and that's the base of why people are upset.
This wasn’t pandering or caving, though.
It's okay guys, it's not pandering because they said so.
It just so happened that they wanted to change the pose at the same time the single person made their complaint :v:
I wouldn't even argue against the idea that it looked out of place for the character but unfortunately these types of people know that coming up with a sob story about how a character's sexy pose is going to make their son into a rapist or ruin their daughter self esteem or the usual bullshit is a very effective way to guilt trip people into doing their bidding
on the same topic: Fuck China I want my world-wide popular competitive games to have skeletons in them.
They still do? Most of the time they make a seperate version for China, like they did with WoW (by replacing skulls with bags and meat with bread, lmao.) and I think there's also some of that in Hearthstone and HotS? Valve also did the same for Dota 2.

That reply is such bullshit. The pose is shared with other characters in the game, it was supposed to be a quick victory pose used as common filler for the crates you get when leveling up. If it's true they weren't happy with this particular pose before the complaints they should remove the other poses for mccree etc as well since they are literally the exact same shit.
how they can make this change to accommodate people who get offended at it, and yet still have fucking widowmaker in the game is fucking mindboggling

It's a pretty bullshit reply. If they actually didn't like it, then why didn't they just say that in their first response, honestly I would've banned him, maybe that's a bit too much and they could've ignored him instead.
This whole thing is pretty silly anyway. :v:
However I kinda thought the guy who made the post about this had a good point in there, I wouldn't really ban him for that, but this looks like some really generic animation to me, Blizzard's artists could've said that it's a placeholder to shake them off.
I think the development team handled this poorly, they could've come up with any other excuses as to why they'd change that. I honestly would've kept the animation, maybe I would've even poked fun at it later on. I would've had Winston pose like that, that seems like a good compromise. :v:
I don't know, I wish they'd just have some fun with it.
Normally, if they really wanted to change her pose they would leave the current pose as is and change it with a future patch.
But they made the wrong decision and now look at it.
The real question is how someone managed to complain about a game nobody can play.
The real question is why are folks acting like one animation lost is like a slippery slope to Blizzard bowing down before SJWs?
I seriously just think this whole controversy is just a pointless banter over one animation being lost. $5 everyone is going to forget about this soon enough, because one animation lost isn't the whole game reworked over one post. It's one pose, and just one pose.
I say that this video by TB, and the reaction over it, is just as silly as Blizzard removing the pose over that one major post.
Don't get me wrong I still like TB, but. It's just one god damn pose guys. I hardly think "Artistic vision" is in danger because one piece of animation, against every other piece of animation in this game, got removed to avoid the risk of angering SJWs.

No the real question which has been stated many times now is why did blizzard listen to one person and take it as if the whole community felt that way, then proceeds not to listen tot he community when it turns out its not like that
