And so is Illinois, yet you can go to some places in Chicago and not see a white person for hours.

You're wrong on this one.
We need 49 other states then or else the cool number is ruined.
How about we split one of the states in half and have 52. 51 is such an ugly number.
Combine North and South Dakota into one big Dakota!
I don't see why not. The whole idea of unincorporated territories is stupid, seeing as the U.S. was founded partially because we wanted representation. My question: why stop at Puerto Rico? what what about Guam? U.S. Virgin Islands? Northern Mariana Islands? American Samoa? I know their all pretty small, but they deserve representation. Maybe combine Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands as one state, and then Guam, Mariana and Samoa as another. That would bring us up to 52.

Or Virginia.

If I remember correctly, a territory must have a certain population number before it can join and those territories don't even have the landmass to hold the minimum amount.

It's up to the people of the territory to choose statehood.

Combine North and South Dakota, add Puerto Rico - We all win
I wouldn't mind that circular logo. Looks pretty sweet and is a nice change.
If they do become a state, I really want the Government to take a vote on what design should be used for the flag. I'd love to have a circular or radial design instead of the same grid.
I can see Bill O'Reilly or Rush Limbaugh or some other blowhard conservative talk show host raising hell about changing the design of the flag because of a new state.

but what about combined? I just think it's silly that they have many of their rights taken away.

I expect they'll mostly say how this is a "leftist plot to increase more Democrat members in Congress" because everyone knows PR will be a blue state.

What rights are being taken away? It's up to the territory to try for statehood or not, under certain conditions.
I doubt it will happen. People here are content with staying as a commonwealth ( read: colony)

Nope, congress can make any territory a state if it's agreed by both parties, the states just usually say LOOK HOW MANY PEOPLE WE HAVE WE'RE SO BIG ADMIT US
Guess I got some flag burning to do.
ITS THE RIGHT WAY TO DISPOSE OF IT AFTER ALL :v:
California has one of the largest populations of white americans in the US.
But not a larger proportion so your argument is irrelevant

how about the right to vote for president? representation in congress?
No thanks. 50 is an awesome number.
Add PR, Merge North Dakota and South Dakota, problem solved.
how about the right to vote for president? representation in congress?
They have a representative. That person simply cannot vote on issues. Though if I remember correctly, he or she is allowed to give an "input" or something along those lines on any issue.

There's a reason they were seperated in the first place :v:

West Dakota.

Go to America and ask if anyone knows what Puerto Rico is, Christ I know our schools are not the best but we are not straight out retarded.
The 51 star flag design looks awesome, though. :v:

Not bad.

I'd be in favor of it, it's silly that we still own certain territories that are bound by laws they have no say in.
If this goes through, when people use the phrase "the 51st state", they'll probably either be meaning "the 52nd state", referring to the same concept only with a new name, or they'll be talkin' 'bout Puerto Rico.
What does Puerto Rico mean anyway; the Port of Rice?
Puerto Rico=Rich Port.

I'm dumb, what's the "E" for?
I'm dumb, what's the "E" for?
It's the Enclave flag from Fallout.
This isnt going to happen. They are going to conduct the vote by having 2 elections. One where its Independence vs Statehood, and whichever wins goes on to the next round where its winner vs status quo (which is remaining the same). People who want independence will vote for commonwealth and will beat out statehood. Its always been like this (the attitude to remain the same) because people want to keep their language and other cultural things but mainly the language change will be huge.

Where does it say they'll be forced to give up their language and culture?
