Roxas in Kingdom Hearts.
i just googled this and this character is a guy? lol?
original reveal is the epitome of "women as reward" began life as a damsel in distress is an avatar, not a character no idea decent example no idea character design ruins this one. no idea about the lore watched my brother play this game for a few hours and all she did was make constant references to being a big bad girl and beating up guys and breaking nails and how people should be embarrassed they got beaten up by a girl no idea but considering how bad all the other women are and how awful the female character design in those games is it wouldn't surprise me if talia sucked too no idea a couple
So you only say a couple because you obviously havent played most of the games I have listed. Chell isnt just an avatar, she had characterization if you paid attention to the fucking game and read the official comic at Portal 2s release. Saying character design ruins it for Dota 2 is the dumbest shit I heard all day, out of all of them only 1 is dressed like a bimbo and is a slut, guess which one that is? The fucking succubus. Amy rose began in 1 game on the CD-I, that doesnt take away from any of the other games. How is samus not one either? She has fucking characterization and it was never about "women being the reward" it was a fucking twist, no one saw samus and was like "Oh sweet, I just got pixel women on my screen" So you didnt know half of the games I listed and come to the brass conclusion that only a few games have decent women characters? Ignorance is fucking bliss, you are a joke dude. Please tell me what YOU think a good women character is.
no one is saying that every game or film or book has to have female characters but if you do put a female character in a film or game or book they should not be: tits on legs damsel in distress man with boobs i can think of like... 2?
Lara Croft (2013) Alyx Vance Elena Fisher (Uncharted) Clementine (Walking Dead) Princess Garnett (Final Fantasy IX) Yuna (Final Fantasy X) Jade (Beyond Good & Evil) Cate Archer (No One Lives Forever) FemShep & Bioware protagonists in general, as well as some of their characters (Tali, Jack, Samara, Ashley, Morrigan, Leliana are all pretty damn strong) And then we've got this year, which looks to have some strong female protagonists. We've got Jodie in Heavy Rain, Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite, Ellie in The Last of Us and Nilin in Remember Me. I agree that strong female characters are not nearly as ubiquitous as they should be, but they're definitely out there.
i just googled this and this character is a guy? lol?
That was a joke.
That was a joke.
OK let me just ask, why do you think it's appropriate or OK to call Roxas a female character?
Men and women are both made to look appealing to the opposite sex in video games. Contrary to popular belief there is fan service for both genders. This is entertainment not a great literary work.
There are a handful of male fanservice characters, yes. There are many, many times more female fanservice characters. Vice versa for good characters. Sure, there are good examples here and there, but those are the exceptions in a trend. Amy Rose: isn't her entire motivation just "OMG I just love Sonic so much! <3" ? DOTA 2 and LOL and what not: "Even though these games are mutliplayer games that only have a backstory tacked on as an afterthought or excuse and don't have any story arcs, on the ~official~ wiki some of the female characters have good backstories! (that no one reads and don't actually affect the game whatsoever)" As for "Catwoman's suit doesn't count!": Hark, A Vagrant is always relevant. I do admit, games are getting better. There are more and more good female characters, and less and less sexism. A lot of other aspects are getting better too. That still doesn't mean that the problem is over, yet. You can't say "Hey, games have made some progress! That means they don't have to progress any further than they already have" and complain "those mean feminists are trying to censor our games!" when a girl makes some criticisms and suggestions.
So you only say a couple because you obviously havent played most of the games I have listed.
uh there were only 3 i didn't have an idea about
Chell isnt just an avatar, she had characterization if you paid attention to the fucking game and read the official comic at Portal 2s release.
we're talking about feminism in video games and you're angry with me for not reading a fucking comic hahaha are you for real
Amy rose began in 1 game on the CD-I, that doesnt take away from any of the other games.
fair point but it's still interesting to know where the characters came from
it was never about "women being the reward" it was a fucking twist, no one saw samus and was like "Oh sweet, I just got pixel women on my screen"
um the better/faster you do at the game the more she undresses for you.......
Please tell me what YOU think a good women character is.
faith um...... um sometimes i think mona in max payne has a decent character arc and balance between femme fatale/damsel/temptress in the context of a noir setting
OK let me just ask, why do you think it's appropriate or OK to call Roxas a female character?
Do you literally have zero sense of humor?
Lara Croft (2013) Alyx Vance Elena Fisher (Uncharted) Clementine (Walking Dead) Princess Garnett (Final Fantasy IX) Yuna (Final Fantasy X) Jade (Beyond Good & Evil) Cate Archer (No One Lives Forever) FemShep & Bioware protagonists in general, as well as some of their characters (Tali, Jack, Samara, Ashley, Morrigan, Leliana are all pretty damn strong) And then we've got this year, which looks to have some strong female protagonists.
Do you literally have zero sense of humor?

stop saying shit no-one cares about (srsly no-one wants to hear your lecture on what we should care about) and just talk about the video tia

And I'm not sure if you mean Jodie from Beyond or if you mean Madison from Heavy Rain. Because if it's the latter, Madison is definitely the opposite of a good female character.
OK let me just ask, why do you think it's appropriate or OK to call Roxas a female character?
Its a fucking joke stop being so uptight.
hoodedsniper there are actually people here doing a good job of arguing your case you should probably let them take over
Yeah those are all great and mostly critically acclaimed games, too, though most of them aren't the main character.
That's fair, but I'd argue that they don't necessarily have to be the player-controlled character to be considered the "main" character. Yuna and Princess Garnett are easily as important as Tidus and Zidane (if not more so), Clementine is definitely the focus of The Walking Dead, and (at least in Uncharted 1 & 2), Elena Fisher did a great job standing shoulder to shoulder with Nathan Drake.
Its a fucking joke stop being so uptight.

Do you literally have zero sense of humor?
fuck off shitty jokes like that are awful is basically saying "oh man this dude who shows emotion and such = a woman LOL" you are part of the problem [editline]8th March 2013[/editline] also I have a new title THANKS
fuck off shitty jokes like that are awful is basically saying "oh man this dude who shows emotion and such = a woman LOL" you are part of the problem
Thats not why I called Roxas a women, are you fucking serious? You are the problem, getting so fucking offended over nothing, its hysterical. [editline]8th March 2013[/editline]
hoodedsniper there are actually people here doing a good job of arguing your case you should probably let them take over
Nice personal attack dude, not my fault you didnt play most of the games I listed so you had no input on it.
Its a fucking joke stop being so uptight.
if it's a joke based on misogynistic stereotypes then it's pretty reasonable to criticize it.
That's fair, but I'd argue that they don't necessarily have to be the player-controlled character to be considered the "main" character. They are all great characters and the walking dead is amazing, I am in no way saying the games are bad. Like, could you imagine if all the games you played had a character you couldn't identify with? It would suck. I'm pretty sure this is the reason games with character creators (and MMOs) have more women playing them than most other 'hardcore REAL games'
Do we need to go over the FemShep thing again. And I'm not sure if you mean Jodie from Beyond or if you mean Madison from Heavy Rain. Because if it's the latter, Madison is definitely the opposite of a good female character.
I know FemShep is just MaleShep with some altered lines (or vice versa, depending on how you look at it), but if there's something more to that then enlighten me. And whoops, major typo on my part with Jodie. I meant the protagonist from Beyond: Two Souls. seriously hoodedsniper, you're really annoying
Thats not why I called Roxas a women, are you fucking serious? You are the problem, getting so fucking offended over nothing, its hysterical.
then why did you completely dodge the question when asked? i mean shadeaz asked a legit question. if you don't want to answer it then people generally come to their own conclusions.
fuck off shitty jokes like that are awful is basically saying "oh man this dude who shows emotion and such = a woman LOL" you are part of the problem [editline]8th March 2013[/editline] also I have a new title THANKS
Lol you've had that title since yesterday and IMO its been fitting so far.
if it's a joke based on misogynistic stereotypes then it's pretty reasonable to criticize it.
But I wasnt calling roxas a women due to anything. I just said it to throw people off, but thanks for saying it was a misogynistic stereotype, maybe if you throw those works around enough you will get it right.
If you're trying to disprove that there are only a few good female characters, adding guys to the list as a joke to make the list seem longer than it really is really doesn't help your case. Especially if said joke is 10% of your list.
Lol you've had that title since yesterday and IMO its been fitting so far.
that title made me rofl srsly let me post about it so you know
Thats not why I called Roxas a women, are you fucking serious? You are the problem, getting so fucking offended over nothing, its hysterical.
I'm not offended in the slightest actually, and if that's not why, please explain?
not my fault you didnt play most of the games I listed so you had no input on it.
don't forget the comics that give a lifeless 3d model a character
I just said it to throw people off
what was the point of doing that ??
But I wasnt calling roxas a women due to anything. I just said it to throw people off, but thanks for saying it was a misogynistic stereotype, maybe if you throw those works around enough you will get it right.
i never said it was due to a misogynistic stereotype, i said if it was. shadaez asked why you made that joke and you didn't answer.
