SO what if different sexes have different taste in colors? When you're 5 and playing with lego, the color can be a huge deciding factor for you.
We've been over this before. Boys aren't genetically hard coded to like gray/blue shit and girls aren't automatically attracted to pink stuff either. It's a social construct made to segregate. It might seem like an insignificant thing but it shows how gender roles and occupations (being a policeman/fireman for boys, baking and partying for girls) are introduced from an early stage in development.
really why does anybody complain about how much money she got when said people clearly didn't give any money themselves?
Well, when she makes a video in the series that actually draws your attention and keeps it then maybe, but for now she's just another voice, except one that is apparently worth 150,000 dollars my problem with the series so far is that it's just boring and expository, it doesn't prove anything one way or the other
Well the fact that the only games she sources are quite old and in no way reflect the current state of women in video games today makes the series outdated at release and more of a history lesson. She also spends the first 10 minutes explaining "damsel in distress" and saying how sexist old TV was.
times change
yeah society tells girls to like pink, it isn't innate or natural though
really why does anybody complain about how much money she got when said people clearly didn't give any money themselves?
are you trying to say that people aren't allowed to complain about something if they didn't contribute? [editline]e[/editline] i'm complaining about how much money she got because she doesn't deserve that amount of money for trying to say the same thing people have been saying for years, successfully or not, and the production values of her videos do not at all reflect the amount she garnered from the kickstarter
are you trying to say that people aren't allowed to complain about something if they didn't contribute? You can complain about it, but why are you complaining..?
are you trying to say that people aren't allowed to complain about something if they didn't contribute? [editline]e[/editline] i'm complaining about how much money she got because she doesn't deserve that amount of money for trying to say the same thing people have been saying for years, successfully or not, and the production values of her videos do not at all reflect the amount she garnered from the kickstarter
the people who DID give the money do feel that she deserved it, though
are you trying to say that people aren't allowed to complain about something if they didn't contribute? [editline]e[/editline] i'm complaining about how much money she got because she doesn't deserve that amount of money for trying to say the same thing people have been saying for years, successfully or not, and the production values of her videos do not at all reflect the amount she garnered from the kickstarter
No one is saying that. Whether she deserves the money or not is entirely opinion-based and completely irrelevant, besides, I've never seen the issue be tackled directly, so please do show me all those people who have been saying this for years. And the production value? Yeah I kinda agree. On the bright side, the fact that she got way more money than she needed tells us that there is an interest on changing things and that people recognize there's a problem.
the people who DID give the money do feel that she deserved it, though
not necessarily true. http://leopirate.com/post/44004741869/tropes-vs-women-in-video-games-a-backers-perspective
not necessarily true. http://leopirate.com/post/44004741869/tropes-vs-women-in-video-games-a-backers-perspective
obviously
Well, when she makes a video in the series that actually draws your attention and keeps it then maybe, but for now she's just another voice, except one that is apparently worth 150,000 dollars my problem with the series so far is that it's just boring and expository, it doesn't prove anything one way or the other
for integrity's sake we should probably forget compiling lists of good characters and instead make a list of legitimate issues with it. people keep bringing up the same issues and none of them threatening rape so i'd say they're worth noting.
not necessarily true. http://leopirate.com/post/44004741869/tropes-vs-women-in-video-games-a-backers-perspective
her response to this shitty troll
Hi Michael (@theLEOpirate), As one of our nearly 7000 backers you could have, at any time, asked me your question about the timetable or survey either in the comments or via private message here on Kickstarter. But you did not do that. Instead you decided to take a screen-capture of our backers-only update and immediately posted it publicly. And even worse, you uploaded it directly to the very gaming boards that have been organizing the sustained harassment campaign against me and this project. Predictably, that action ignited a new torrent of anger, vitriol, and misogyny from users of those sites which they directed at me via all my social media channels. The reason for making the project updates backers-only is to try to minimize this kind of vitriol while we are still in the process of making our video series. I even specifically asked backers to please refrain from sharing our in-progress reports publicly for exactly this reason. You ignored that request and as a consequence I received yet another round of threats. Now let's clear up a few things. That screen-capture you took was shared on specific gaming boards hours *before* you posted anything on twitter. I was sent documentation of this from other backers and have screenshots with timestamps. Additionally, you didn't actually ask me a question on twitter, instead you posted a random accusatory message full of unfounded assumptions and misinformation reading, "Not only has @femfreq failed to meet her first due date, she's asking her backers to do her work disguised as a survey" (https://twitter.com/theLEOpirate/status/242750796310130689) which included your screenshot of our private backers update. Then *after* that your screenshot appeared on Reddit accompanied by the text from your tweet. It's beyond me how anyone in their right mind could think that any of this would be an appropriate way to ask a question. More baffling is how you could possibly fail to see how it would be problematic or alarming. If you had taken a moment to actually read the backer updates you would already know that the questions you had regarding release dates and extra funding were specifically answered in update #8. Please understand that I get asked the same questions dozens of times and so I try to respond to those questions collectively in my updates (again see update #8). When I have more details ready to share, the backers will be the first to know. Furthermore, the surveys were promised back in update #3 and are simply a way to provide our awesome backers with a meaningful opportunity to participate and offer some feedback or ideas during our already ongoing intensive research process. It's frankly ridiculous that I even have to explain this. I know it might be hard for you to accept but I'm doing this project out of love for gaming as a medium and a strong desire to see games and the industry realize their amazing potential. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to work, these video games aren't going to play themselves. PS. If you have any further concerns, please address them to me politely via Kickstarter's private messages.
it is still fair to say some people are not pleased that she missed her deadlines though. if you didn't donate though, what does it matter to you?
her response to this shitty troll
Christ, did you even read what he wrote? Nowhere in that guy's post did he fling any vitriolic or insulting comments to Anita for the purpose of inciting anger. He presents his points and ideas and recognizes that misogyny in video games is a problem. Do you even know what "troll" means, or do you just like to throw it around like rice?
yeah society tells girls to like pink, it isn't innate or natural though
Colors men wear are also usually picked by society. It's more of a social dynamics and fashion issue than a sexist issue itself.
her response to this shitty troll
Well, I guess it takes on to know one. Really, you're not even trying anymore. You don't make any sense when you post, much less any valid points
it is still fair to say some people are not pleased that she missed her deadlines though. if you didn't donate though, what does it matter to you?
it matters because it's annoying to see people who see that she missed her deadlines, admitted to spending money outside of the project, and got a whopping 150k, and then just ignore that and continue to talk about how great and progressive she is which, for all i know, she may be, but my point is that she fucked up and it bothers me to see that people who agree with her message also ignore her own flaws
her response to this shitty troll
you really can't see the issue here? internet trolling isn't like throwing bricks through her window, she already blocks every dissenting view and acting like people posting shit on her twitter caused any real harm is juvenile shit. the amazing atheist did a vid on it yesterday, not sure if it's been posted, addresses her need for censoring everything like she needs protection from nasty words. it's utter bullshit and shows she can't act on the internet like any normal adult.
Colors men wear are also usually picked by society. It's more of a social dynamics and fashion issue than a sexist issue itself.
Yeah, of course it isn't sexist by itself. But as a social construct it does perpetuate certain sexist ideas when used as a means of segregation.
the amazing atheist
yeah ok sorry I don't think a raging misogynist is a good source for an unbiased analysis on a feminist activist
Yeah, of course it isn't sexist by itself. But as a social construct it does perpetuate certain sexist ideas when used as a means of segregation.
I think colors and fashion dynamics are the least of our worries with bigger more important issues with sexism.
the amazing atheist did a vid on it yesterday, not sure if it's been posted
please no
please no
I think this is the one he's referring to. Surprisingly subdued for him, and he's not shoving a banana smothered in chocolate up his ass for once.
I think this is the one he's referring to. Surprisingly subdued for him, and he's not shoving a banana smothered in chocolate up his ass for once.
please no
Everyone stop. Just fucking stop. I've been through this birth of a disfigured child that whom's progeniture had realized would cause such a mess and decided to still post it anyways, this is just an endless bullshit circle that goes around and around sinking deeper into a whirlpool of hate. There's legitimate criticism, voiced by some here. There's legitimate reason, voiced by some here. There's unlegitimate and crass criticism, voiced by some here. There's idiotic and arrogant defense, voiced by some here. We need a person to come in here to moderate this, so those whom just wish to hurl such bile toward each other, or those whom do not care and deflect legitimate criticism aside while spouting their idiocy towards others, be cast out. And allow those whom wish to actually have legitimate debate coexist.
Christ, did you even read what he wrote? Nowhere in that guy's post did he fling any vitriolic or insulting comments to Anita for the purpose of inciting anger. Do you even know what "troll" means, or do you just like to throw it around like rice?
ok? him acting like he agrees with her doesn't make him less of a troll. He's outright lying in the post and posting things meant to be private. The only thing she owes him is whatever he paid for, she doesn't need to respond to criticism and claiming that she only blocked youtube comments because 'she could no longer monetize them' is just totally disgusting. Also pointing out that there's only one video about positive characters, uh ok???????? thats what you paid for, if you don't like it why did you do it. It's clear he's just looking for negative things when he blames her for not wanting hate speech and stuff posted on her comments.
Well, I guess it takes on to know one. Really, you're not even trying anymore. You don't make any sense when you post, much less any valid points
uh ok
the amazing atheist .
for real you call yourself a feminist?
please no

please no
quit yer whining, i dont regularly watch the stupid fuck and wasn't going to post it. i was just noting the argument he made and how it's valid regardless of him being retarded. everyone who puts themselves out there is harassed one way or another and acting like inflammatory and baseless insults are anything but noise is stupid. if you can sort the insults from the arguments in my posts, you've done more work than she needs to to separate legitimate criticism and trolling.
for real you call yourself a feminist?
mate u need to learn to take arguments rather than being a sooky baby who sees black and white, us and them. that's probably the core of an ad hominem, disregarding someone not because of their arguments but because of who they are, so shut your shit.
I think this is the one he's referring to. Surprisingly subdued for him, and he's not shoving a banana smothered in chocolate up his ass for once.
The only thing I really agree with this guy on is that disabling ratings and comments on her videos is a huge mistake. Sure most of them would be terrible, but so what? There would still be intelligent people making intelligent arguments in there, somewhere. Then he just ruined by trying to somehow undermine her stance by reading what some of her crazy fans post and dismissing all the misogynistic backslash she got as "trolling for shock value", the only thing he really proved there is that there's nutjobs on both sides of the spectrum, which is hardly a discovery.
mate u need to learn to take arguments rather than being a sooky baby who sees black and white, us and them. that's probably the core of an ad hominem, disregarding someone not because of their arguments but because of who they are, so shut your shit.
yes tell me how not to ad hominem while calling me names... I don't think that an MRA has anything constructive to say in an argument about sexism honestly I don't get how a feminist can use the amazing athiest, someone hugely into the worst kind of MRA, as a talking point you should calm down tho
it matters because it's annoying to see people who see that she missed her deadlines, admitted to spending money outside of the project, and got a whopping 150k, and then just ignore that and continue to talk about how great and progressive she is which, for all i know, she may be, but my point is that she fucked up and it bothers me to see that people who agree with her message also ignore her own flaws
you wouldn't have watched the videos regardless, so...? also do you actually know she is ignoring her flaws or are you just assuming? unless you contributed which you obviously didn't you don't know what the actual state of the kickstarter project is
