Tropes vs Women in Video Games - Damsel in Distress
Congratulations on being a pedant.
Of course games aren't "real", and neither are books, movies, TV shows, and any other work of fiction. But that's not the point. It has nothing to do with the point.
There is a difference between video games and other works of fiction. Video games do not have to create an imitation of society to be understood. And more often than not they don't. They have recognizable objects, but none of those objects need any human characteristics to function. There is no need to empathize with anything we see in a video game, which is why it's so easy to kill and not think about it. More often than not human characteristics are actually detrimental to their function as video game objects because a player that notices any flaws in their imitation usually starts to dislike the object.
When I say everything in video games is an "object" I mean they are not meant to emulate human beings. They're basically robots.

OK, obviously they don't have to, but they do. Not all games are a little yellow pixel going around shooting red pixels or whatever, a majority are made to emulate the real world. And in those games women are more often than not presented poorly.
IDK I guess maybe the last game you played was Adventure but they have changed quite a lot since then
this whole situation is laughably ridiculous
as you watch the video you can see some major points she CLEARLY fluffs up and dumbs down because she KNOWS the average male gamer won't like to hear them.
the entire video is focused on being as gentle as possible with its points, so as not to upset the delicate ego of the male gamer, while still at least starting to get the point across
and yet facepunch STILL gets upset at her and calls her the sexist one
its absolutely unbelievable. hilarious really, try exposing yourself to some actually radical feminist views and see what you think about it, not this male-centric feminism-lite stuff.
that's why feminists try and raise awareness and agitate consciousness of sexist shit. the hope is that people we become more conscious of all this and hopefully either not buy games that are sexist or petition game makers to incorporate more equal writing into their games.
explain to me why people think that constantly being assholes and calling everyone that disagrees with them a misogynist rape sympathizer will somehow swing people over to their side? not every feminist does this, but a lot of the feminists on fp seem to have this mindset.
